Man arrested in Ghaziabad for 22.63L cyber fraud in Udaipur

Udaipur: Pratapgarh police arrested a man from Ghaziabad Sunday for allegedly defrauding a Udaipur resident of Rs 22.63 lakh in a cyber scam involving a fake Birla Sun Life insurance policy refund.
Acting on a complaint filed by victim Nanalal Lohar on May 11, 2024, the police launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the key accused, Shafiq Ahmed, 32, a resident of Sahibabad in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Lohar had approached an unknown contact to claim a refund on his dormant insurance policy. The accused, posing as representatives of Birla Sun Life and using fake identities—Manoj Pandey, NP Singh, and VK Singh—sent Aadhaar and PAN card copies via a social media app to gain the victim's trust.
Once convinced, Lohar transferred Rs 22.63 lakh to various accounts provided by the accused between April 15 and May 9, 2024. The fraud came to light when the accused's phone became unreachable, prompting Lohar to lodge a complaint with the Pratapgarh cyber police station.
District superintendent of police Vineet Kumar Bansal formed a special team led by Cyber Police SHO Hari Singh to probe the matter. The team quickly traced and froze the involved bank accounts.

Technical analysis revealed that the funds had been deposited into the account of Shafiq Ahmed.
A police team raided Ghaziabad and detained Ahmed, who during interrogation confessed to contacting Lohar via a number found on Google and conning him with the promise of an insurance refund.
Police said efforts are underway to trace other members of the fraud network based on leads from Ahmed's interrogation.

UP: Change in travel plan lands 2 drug peddlers in police net with ganja worth ₹33 lakh

As luck would have it, two drug smugglers' change of mind to travel by a bus instead of a train to avoid rush landed them in police net here on Thursday. The arrested accused are Pradeep Modak of West Bengal's Cooch Behar, and Anil Kumar of Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh. (For Representation) District police arrested the duo identified as Pradeep Modak, 34 of West Bengal's Cooch Behar, and Anil Kumar, 35, of Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh and seized around 67 kg of ganja (marijuana) with an estimated market value of around ₹33 lakh from them. 'The two accused, who usually travelled by train, opted for a bus this time. They were waiting for the bus near a private school close to Kanausi flyover slope when a police team intercepted and arrested them,' said Lucknow's Manak Nagar station in-charge Ajit Kumar. 'During routine checking for suspicious persons, the two were stopped on suspicion. On being questioned, they admitted to carrying ganja,' Kumar added. 'Police recovered 66.938 kg of ganja from four trolley bags and two smaller bags, along with two Aadhaar cards, two mobile phones and ₹3,100 in cash,' said a Lucknow police press note. During interrogation, the duo confessed to being part of an interstate smuggling network. 'They said they procure ganja from the new Cooch Behar railway station in West Bengal. A man named Ram Darsh of Bihar arranges the supply and travels for them. They were supposed to deliver the consignment to one Wasim at Old Delhi railway station,' a cop said. An FIR under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused and further probe into the matter is in progress.

Two held for hurling petrol bomb in Ranipet

Two persons were arrested for hurling a petrol bomb at the house of an agent of Vellore-based LNS International Financial Services at Sayanapuram village near Nemili town in Ranipet on Thursday. Police said the arrested persons were identified as H. Dinesh (34) and R. Mohan (20). They were relatives of the victim S. Arun (43), an agent of the financial firm. All of them are native to the village. Initial inquiry revealed that the victim Arun allegedly convinced the duo to invest their money in the private financial firm to avail high interest on their deposits. Police said that, accordingly, the duo deposited around Rs 15 lakh in the firm. In February this year, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested 10 persons in connection with a scam involving LNS International Financial Services, where the company cheated over 5046 depositors and swindled ₹800 crore. The EOW registered a case against the dysfunctional financial firm, its sister concerns, and the directors and administrators of the firms, based on the depositors' complaints. Since then, the duo had regularly visited the victim's house and demanded return of their deposit. When Arun gave excuses for the same, the duo hurled the petrol bomb. No damage was reported. Police nabbed the suspects from their hideouts in Chennai. A case was registered by Nemili police and they were lodged in Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is underway.

5 govt teachers sacked after 11 yrs of servicefor getting jobs on fake docus; BSA orders FIR

Meerut: UP Primary Education Board has sacked five govt teachers in Bulandshahr after a probe revealed that "they secured jobs using fake educational documents in 2014", said officials on Thursday. The Basic Siksha Adhikari (BSA) has consequently ordered the registration of an FIR against them, while a recovery notice for the salary they withdrew during this period will be issued soon. BSA Laxmikant Pandey told TOI: "Verification work of teachers appointed after 2010 was going on, and after investigation and several rounds of checks by the department, marksheets of at least four assistant teachers were found to be computer-generated. It was found that they had tampered with the names and roll numbers of other candidates. Hence, on the basis of the probe report, their services were terminated." Notably, since the recruitment was merit-based, some aspirants inflated their scores by submitting forged marksheets and certificates to secure jobs, he said. The sacked teachers -- Pushpendra Kumar, Ashish Kumar, Dinesh Kumar and Ashish Kumar (all from Firozabad) -- got the job in 2014, and were posted as assistant teachers in schools of Dibai block, Bulandshahr. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo The salary recovery amount from the four teachers may be Rs 2 crore, an official said. A senior cop in Dibai said an FIR will be registered under relevant sections soon after they receive a formal complaint. In the case of the fifth teacher, Amit Giri, posted in govt higher secondary school in one of the districts of Azamgarh division in 2014, his documents were found to be fake. An official, privy to investigation details, said the assistant teacher, who is resident of Bulandshahr, "managed to secure the job, fraudulently, and he later took a transfer to his home town (Bulandshahr)".
