Coronation Street Gary Windass star 'lets slip' exit date after coma twist

Daily Mirror09-07-2025
Mikey North has opened up about his future on Coronation Street with fans fearful that favourite character Gary Windass could die in shocking scenes set to air in the coming days and weeks
Mikey North has opened up about his future on Coronation Street amid fears his character will die. Mikey has played Gary Windass for nearly two decades but there are real fears he could be leaving.
During a chat on This Morning about the big storyline with Gary, Mikey made a cheeky admission about his time on the Cobbles. He told hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, "Gary's walked out and has gone missing. We find him in hospital in a coma."

When soap expert Sharon Marshall joked that Maria was the 'black widow' of the Cobbles as those paired with her usually die. Mikey then said: "I think I've been with her five or six years counting, so I've probably got about six months left."

Gary has been part of a huge storyline as of late - and is currently lying in a coma in hospital after being brutally attacked and left for dead. He disappeared from screens a while back after clashing with his wife Maria.
Lou had framed Gary and made it seem like he was having an affair. He left the Cobbles, saying he was going to stay with his mum Anna Windass - but Maria soon realised he had left her's and returned home, only for him to be nowhere to found.

Gary is currently in a coma in hospital after a harrowing attack - but what happened to him and will he be ok?
Asked if he was going anywhere, he said: "I hope not ... If I am, it's been a pleasure being on this show." They also chatted about the Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover and Mikey said he'd love to take on Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).
It was also revealed that there will be a flashback episode to explain what happened, as he teased "anyone" could be responsible. A mystery woman will be at Gary's bedside but has told everyone his name is Chesney. Who is she though?

Mikey also revealed that he previously auditioned for another role - Chesney's brother - but he didn't get the role as he was too young.
Mikey previously opened up about filming the big fight scenes with Mick actor Joe Layton. Speaking about the arrival of Mick and Lou, he said: "They've been great. Their arrival reminded me of the Windass arrival all those years ago – coming in and ruffling a few feathers! I've been lucky down the years; I tend to get involved with a lot of new people who come into the show for short periods of the time. They're always playing characters that, like I say, are there to ruffle feathers – the Pat Phelans and the Rick Neelans."
He loves doing stunts himself and jumped at the chance to do the fight scenes with Joe.
"I've always said, 'I'm probably not really an actor, I'm just a frustrated stunt man!' I love doing all that, it's my favourite part of the job. Whenever I get to do a stunt or a fight scene, that's definitely my favourite part, and that was another good one," he said.
"We enjoyed it, Joe was great as well – we certainly got stuck in! I realised the other day that I think I love it so much because I used to love WWE as a kid. I'm sure that must be where it all comes from – picking up the moves from watching that."

Woman who filmed viral 'Coldplay couple' moment says she 'didn't think much of it'

The woman who filmed and posted a video of two colleagues caught in an awkward moment together at a Coldplay concert has said she 'didn't think much' of the now viral incident. Andy Byron, the boss of New York-based firm Astronomer, was seen with his arms around Kristin Cabot, the company's chief people officer, on the 'kiss cam' screen at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. When they saw themselves on the big screen, the pair quickly separated and attempted to hide their faces. 'Whoa, look at these two,' Coldplay singer Chris Martin said. 'Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.' Mr Byron has now quit the data infrastructure company, according to a LinkedIn post from the company on Saturday. Speaking from the USA, Grace Springer appeared on STV's This Morning, where she told Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary how the clip became shared worldwide. 'I was hoping to see myself on the big screen, and I love to capture moments, so that's why my phone was out in the first place', Grace told the presenters. 'In the moment when I filmed it, I didn't think much of it but of course everyone was kind of chattering, there were over 50,000 people at the concert so it was a hot topic. 'But, it wasn't until after the concert where I was debriefing the moment with my friends and I said, 'Let's review the footage, let's see if it really looks that bad' and I think it does.' On how she now feels about posting the video online and the reaction since, Grace said: 'I definitely feel for Andy [Bryon]'s wife, Megan, and his family and everyone that's been hurt in the process but as I said, there was over 50,000 people and I'm not the only one who caught it on camera so if it wasn't me that uploaded it, I'm sure someone else would of.' Discussing the video going viral, she added: 'I never would have imagined this would have happened. If I had known, maybe I would have thought twice.' Grace also shared what it was like seeing the moment unfold whilst at the concert and explained: 'It definitely caught everyone's attention, especially because Chris [Martin] made the announcement kind of questioning their reaction but after that, I'm not sure if you're too familiar with Coldplay, but their concerts are magical. 'So, at least for me, I moved on pretty quickly and enjoyed the rest of the night.' Woman who filmed Coldplay kisscam reveals how she captured bombshell moment

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The woman behind the viral Coldplay kisscam video has revealed to This Morning what it was like to capture the bombshell moment. On July 16, during a Massachusetts, USA concert headlined by the world-famous British group, a couple were displayed on the big screens in a loving embrace. But instead of cheering upon seeing themselves on the kisscam, the pair – who internet sleuths later claimed were Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and his HR chief Kristin Cabot – ducked out of view. 'Ooh, look at these two,' Coldplay's Chris Martin initially said, before adding as they ducked away from the camera: 'Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy!' Byron resigned from his position at Astronomer a couple of days later, having been CEO at the tech firm since 2023. Now Grace Springer, the woman who filmed the incident, has revealed why she got her phone out in the first place and what the last few days have been like for her. On Monday, she told This Morning: 'I was hoping to see myself on the big screen – and I love to capture moments, so that's why my phone was out in the first place. 'When I filmed it, I didn't think much of it. But of course everyone was kind of chattering [about the moment] – there were over 50,000 people at the concert so it was a hot topic.' She continued: 'But it wasn't until after the concert, where I was debriefing the moment with my friends, [that] I said, 'Let's review the footage and see if it really looks that bad' and I think it does.' With the alleged affair between Byron and Cabot apparently exposed, and with Byron resigning soon after, Springer was asked how she feels about the impact the video has had. 'I definitely feel for Andy [Bryon]'s wife and his family, and everyone that's been hurt in the process,' she began. 'But as I said, there were over 50,000 people [at the concert]. 'I'm not the only person who caught it on camera, so if it wasn't me that uploaded it then I'm sure someone else would have,' she rationalised. Metro's Senior Entertainment Writer Kitty Chrisp believes people should consider their reactions to the viral Coldplay kisscam moment… The Coldplay kisscam video will go down in history as a meme-able viral moment. Don't get me wrong, I love that this has happened. I'm all for a global outbreak of schadenfreude. But as the rumour mill spins out of control about their private lives, I'm also left feeling uneasy about the power of a viral moment and the sheer global humiliation of being the subject of one. Yes, these two people were in a public place, seemingly open about their relationship. And concerts these days always have people on their phones filming throughout, so perhaps they absolutely deserved this. However, I worry about their mental health, and that of their immediate family, and of course the allegedly cheated-on partners. Although the coincidental gotcha is seen as a perfect slam-dunk moment by the rest of the world, it's embarrassing for Byron's wife – even though it shouldn't be. To read more, click here. When the incident was over, Springer said she was able to forget about it briefly and continue enjoying the rest of the concert, which was at the Gillette Stadium in the north-east US state. More Trending However, she conceded that, with full hindsight, she might have acted differently: 'I never would have imagined this would have happened. If I had known, maybe I would have thought twice.' At a gig later the same week, held in the US state of Wisconsin, Chris Martin issued a joking warning to fans in the audience who may appear on Coldplay kisscams in the future. 'We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd and put some of you on the big screen. How we're going to do that is we're going to use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.' Meghan Markle's surprise Cat Deeley link as This Morning star celebrates pal's birthday

This Morning presenter Cat Deeley and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle have a surprising connection that dates back a number of years Two names that wouldn't automatically be combined in conversation is Cat Deeley and Meghan Markle. While Meghan is living her life stateside with Prince Harry, Cat is entertaining the British public alongside Ben Shephard on This Morning. ‌ However, a close pal of both the women helps to bring them together - and he is currently celebrating his birthday. Cat, 48, is close to Soho House director Markus Anderson. And it was the Canadian mogul who helped to play matchmaker to bring together former Suits star Meghan with the prince almost a decade ago. ‌ Cat took to social media on Sunday to send a special message to her friend. Among the Instagram uploads as a number of funny photos of the duo from time gone by. ‌ She captioned her post: "Happy Birthday to my partner in crime, wine and dine, ride or die @anderson_markus. Thank you for always making my life more FABULOUS, I love you to the moon AND back X" Among the images were the pair enjoying concerts, glasses of wine and cuddling into dogs. The was also a clip of them relaxing in a pool on flamboyant inflatables. ‌ Another of the pair's pal's clearly appreciated the love-in, replying with a sarcastic response. Ben Skervin wrote: "He's ok i guess if you like that sort of thing (said the jealous other best friend)." "Fair to Middling at best ?!?!?," Cat sarcastically replied. Markus was more serious in his replying, responded: "I [heart emoji] you Bubbs xxx." And with the Markus connection, comes the Meghan linkup. In her now defunct blog, The Tig, Meghan gave Cat a mention thanks to her friendship with Markus. ‌ When a lady knows that everything tastes better "with a little champagne"… well, she's a woman after my own heart,' Meghan previously wrote. "Such is the case with Ms. Cat Deeley. "Not surprising though, given our shared love for partner in crime extraordinaire, Markus Anderson, who you've seen on The Tig time and time again." ‌ Meghan previously dubbed Markus the "second most important man in her life". He was often spotted at Meghan's side since they struck up a friendship when the Duchess of Sussex lived in Toronto while filming Suits. Although he did not set up Meghan and Prince Harry, he is said to have played a big part in helping the romance blossom. He reportedly arranged for the pair to meet in private rooms at Soho House and even organised a trip to the boutique hotel Babington House in Somerset. And while there was speculation regarding a potential faltering of the pair's relationship, that has since been played down. Fans were concerned when he didn't make an appearance on her latest Netflix show. However, according to the Daily Mail, the businessman's busy professional life was the reason behind his absence. It means he's travelling constantly analso a pal told the publication: 'He just really is not comfortable in the spotlight... it's not his thing."
