An Australian man has been found dead in an apartment in Pattaya, Thailand.
Perth man Michael Shane Caola, 54, was discovered on Thursday in a room at the Grand Shivalay apartment complex in the Thai city nicknamed 'sin city'.
Police were called after Mr Caola's relatives in Australia alerted staff that he had not answered his phone for two days.
Officers found no sign of a struggle and an investigation is now underway.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Saijai Kamjulla of the Pattaya City Police Station said: 'The cause of the Australian man's death is still unknown and the results of the autopsy are pending.
'The case is currently under investigation, and further details cannot be disclosed at this time.'
Apartment manager Thanchanok Prajit called authorities after finding Mr Caola's door locked.
'His family in Australia called the reception, saying they had been unable to contact him,' she said.
'He was a regular customer often seen exercising, probably to take care of his health.'
A Swedish tourist was found dead in the same apartment complex two hours earlier, however police do not suspect the deaths are related.
Mika Huotari, 38, was found in the bathtub with a wound to his head two floors below Mr Caola's room. Local media reports a woman was seen on CCTV leaving Mr Huotari's room.

Thai gunman kills five people at Bangkok market before taking own life, police say

A gunman has shot and killed five people at a popular fresh food market in Thailand before killing himself, local police say. The victims included security guards at the Or Tor Kor market in the Chatuchak district in Bangkok, according to a police statement. The Erawan Medical Center, which coordinates emergency medical services, reported two women were also injured. The market, next to the sprawling Chatuchak Market, carries all sorts of goods and is popular with Thai and foreign tourists. A video circulating online reportedly showed the shooter wearing a baseball cap and shorts walking in the market with a backpack strapped to his chest and a handgun in his right hand. Police said they were probing details about the suspect, including his motivation. Police General Kitrat Phanphet, chief of the national police force, said he has ordered city police to carry out their investigation quickly and gather all evidence, including closed-circuit video footage. Gun violence is not unusual in Thailand, which has fairly restrictive laws but also a high level of gun ownership. The last mass shooting incident in Bangkok was in October 2023, when a teenage boy, using a modified blank pistol, shot more than half a dozen people at the Paragon shopping mall in the city's main shopping district, killing three. One of the country's worst mass killings occurred in October 2022 in the north-eastern province of Nong Bua Lamphua, when a police sergeant, who had lost his job, used guns and knives to kill 36 people, including two dozen toddlers at a day care centre. In February 2020, a disgruntled Thai army soldier shot and killed 29 people, most at a shopping mall in the north-eastern city of Nakhon Ratchasima, before he was killed by police after an 18-hour stand-off. Gunman kills five in ‘mass shooting' in Thai capital: police

A gunman has killed at least five people, including security guards, and wounded one other person in a mass shooting at a popular fresh food market in Thailand's capital on Monday, police said. 'Police are investigating the motive. So far it's a mass shooting,' Worapat Sukthai, deputy police chief of Bangkok's Bang Sue district where the incident took place, told AFP. He said the suspect took his own life after the shooting and police were working to identify him, as well as investigating 'for any possible link' to the current border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. Footage shows bodies strewn on a street as the pistol-wielding shooter runs along a road. Separate footage shows market visitors and staff scrambling to hide as police search for the shooter. The attack took place at Or Tor Kor Market, a short distance from Chatuchak Market, which is a major tourist destination in Bangkok and throngs with visitors every weekend. Mass shootings are not uncommon in Thailand, where firearms can be obtained relatively easily due to lax gun control enforcement.
