Wisconsin women's basketball top 2026 target lists Badgers as a finalist

USA Today27-07-2025
Wisconsin women's basketball top-ranked class of 2026 target, power forward Jayda Porter, included the Badgers in her list of finalists on Friday.
The younger sister of NBA champion Michael Porter Jr., Jayda Porter narrowed her list to eight suitors. In addition to Wisconsin, that list includes Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Oregon, North Carolina, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. She is slated to officially visit Madison the weekend of Oct. 18.
247Sports considers the 6-foot-3 forward the No. 28 overall recruit in the class of 2026, the No. 9 power forward and the No. 2 player from her home state of Missouri. Here's what Brandon Clay, the outlet's director of scouting for women's basketball, wrote about Porter's basketball repertoire:
"Porter has the size and skill to be a major factor on the interior. Her brothers, Jontay and Michael Jr., both made it to the NBA. Jayda has the bloodline coupled with the touch on offense to be a consistent shot maker from beyond the arc or in the post. That skill set keeps opposing defenders off balance and guessing. Porter's ability to rebound and protect the rim will also be a huge asset for her future college coach. Her game is already diversified at a young age."
While both 247Sports and On3/Rivals have yet to note an offer from Wisconsin, the Badgers would certainly be thrilled to welcome the high-four-star recruit to Madison for her collegiate tenure. UW's 2026 offer sheet currently features seven undecided athletes with at least a four-star profile.
While still early, On3/Rivals' recruiting prediction machine has yet to identify a clear frontrunner. As of July 26, Kansas, which was not named a finalist, boasts the highest likelihood to land Porter's commitment at 30%. The Jayhawks are followed by Nebraska (25.6%) and Oklahoma State (21.9%).
A commitment from Porter would immediately emerge as first-year head coach Robin Pingeton's most significant recruiting victory during her brief tenure as the Badgers' leader. First, UW will need to tackle its 2025-26 slate with a revamped roster.

NBA guard Malik Beasley evicted from Detroit high-rise apartment for unpaid rent: Report

Malik Beasley's return to the Detroit Pistons next season — or any other NBA team — is uncertain amid a federal investigation into his alleged involvement with gambling and prop bets. However, if he was to re-sign with the Pistons, he'll apparently have to find a different place to live in Detroit. Beasley, 28, was evicted from his high-rise apartment in Detroit on Wednesday, the Detroit News' Robert Snell reports. An eviction order was filed in the 36th District Court two months after the guard was sued for failing to pay rent on the downtown Detroit residence. The NBA guard has been sued twice for not paying a total $21,500 in rent for his apartment at The Stott, the high-rise building owned by Bedrock Detroit, which is part of Cleveland Cavaliers' owner Dan Gilbert's business portfolio. Beasley did not respond to the second of the lawsuits accusing him of failing to pay $7,355, resulting in a default judgment being filed against him before 36th District Judge Andrew Bradley-Baskin. The nine-year veteran is currently a free agent and was reportedly set to agree on a three-year, $42 million contract with the Pistons before news of the federal gambling investigation was reported. Beasley's attorney, Steve Haney, pointed out to reporters that his client has not been charged with any crime. Following reports of the gambling probe, Beasley was also sued by Hazan Sports Management Group for breach of contract, alleging he owes the agency $650,000 that was unpaid when he terminated his contract. Despite the gambling investigation and lawsuits, Beasley insists that he will play in the NBA next season, whether with the Pistons or other teams that have apparently expressed interest. During the past month, he has posted videos on social media of him training in Miami (in addition to going to nightclubs and traveling in Europe). On Wednesday, he posted a story to Snapchat saying, We gotta be prepared to come back to the Pistons, or, like I said, there's some other teams interested as well." The Pistons appear to have moved on, signing guard Caris LeVert in free agency and working out a sign-and-trade deal for Duncan Robinson, who presumably fills Beasley's role as a long-range shooter off the bench. Last season, Beasley averaged 16.3 points and shot 42% on 366 3-point attempts. He was Detroit's third-leading scorer and appeared in all 82 games as the Pistons returned to the playoffs after finishing with the NBA's worst record during the previous season. That performance earned him a second-place finish in NBA Sixth Man of the Year voting.

Analyst says Notre Dame fans should be \

Fighting Irish fans might like Kenny Minchey's mobility The debate about the starting quarterback for the 2025 Notre Dame Fighting Irish rages on. CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey? Well, analyst/pundit J.D. Pickell is making the case for the latter. Pickell says Irish fans should be "stoked" if Minchey wins the job. His reasoning? If Minchey wins, that means Minchey is a good enough passer to take advantage of a potentially very good receiving corps while also bringing mobility to the table in the way that last year's starter Riley Leonard did. Pickell points out that Leonard's mobility did a lot of damage to opposing defenses last year -- and if this year's receiving corps is that much better, then it stands to reason that the Irish will have more ways to attack a defense and keep an opponent off balance. We'll see soon enough who wins -- and, if Minchey is the guy, we'll soon see if Pickell is right. Notre Dame's Love and Moore named to 2025 Sporting News preseason All-America team

Two Notre Dame football stars in running back Jeremiyah Love and cornerback Leonard Moore have added two more honors to their impressive preseason haul, as the pair were named to the 2025 Sporting News preseason All-America team. The star running back made the first-team offense, while the playmaking defender made the first-team defense. Love rushed for 1,125 yards and 17 TDs to go along with 28 catches for 237 yards in 2024. He has gained steam as a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate, and with good reason. Although the ND backfield is very deep, he never had more than 16 carries in a single game last season. That should change, and he is well-equipped to handle an increased workload. Meanwhile, Moore had a fantastic freshman year for the Fighting Irish. He recorded 48 tackles with two interceptions and a team-high 11 pass breakups.
