'The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) organised a Municipal Bond Outreach Programme on June 30 – July 1, 2025, at Thiruvananthapuram,' the regulator said in a statement.
The initiative was aimed at equipping urban local bodies (ULBs) and other stakeholders with insights into municipal debt securities, pool financing, and innovative market-based financing mechanisms.
New Delhi, Jul 1 (PTI) Markets regulator Sebi on Tuesday said it has conducted a two-day Municipal Bond Outreach Programme in Thiruvananthapuram to deepen market awareness and support urban infrastructure financing through municipal debt instruments.
The event covered a range of subjects, including structuring municipal bond issuances, regulatory compliance, credit rating, and continuous disclosures, Sebi said.
Interactions with intermediaries and presentations of case studies were also part of the programme to offer hands-on guidance to participants.
The regulator said the outreach programme is part of Sebi's continued efforts to promote transparency, market readiness and sustainable urban infrastructure financing through the municipal bond ecosystem.
A key highlight of the programme was the official release of 'The Green Book – On Climate Finance & Green Municipal Bonds' by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), it added.
The publication, launched by VMC's Mayor, Municipal Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, features Asia's first globally certified Green Municipal Bond issued by VMC.
The document has been showcased as a 2025 Global Case Study, aimed at guiding other ULBs in adopting sustainable financing practices.
Sebi said the publication is now accessible via a QR code and serves as a roadmap for future green bond issuances by municipal bodies. PTI HG HG BAL BAL

'UK trade pact will help us, India must sign more', says RBI Guv Malhotra

Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra on Friday welcomed the newly signed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the United Kingdom (UK), emphasising that it will benefit many sectors of the Indian economy. Speaking at the FE Modern BFSI Summit, Malhotra said that global cooperation through multilateral agreements has slowed down, making such bilateral trade deals more important than ever. 'Hopefully it [FTA with UK] should help us... that is the way going forward now, because unfortunately multilateralism seems to have taken a back seat,' he said, as quoted by news agency PTI. Malhotra said India should pursue similar trade agreements with other countries. He added that negotiations with the United States are already in 'advanced stages'. 'It should help various sectors in our manufacturing as well as on the services side,' he said, referring to the UK deal. Malhotra further mentioned that several other trade pacts are currently under negotiation. He also expressed support for US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, who is facing criticism from President Donald Trump. 'He [Powell] is doing a very good job. Maintaining independence of the central bank is very important. I think he has done a commendable job,' Malhotra said. India-UK free trade agreement India and the UK on Thursday signed the FTA, officially called the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to London. Approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this week, the agreement is expected to increase bilateral trade by $34 billion annually. Under the trade agreement, Indian farmers and exporters will get duty-free access to the UK market for a range of agricultural products such as fruits, vegetables, cereals, spices (like turmeric, pepper, and cardamom), and processed foods including mango pulp, pickles, and ready-to-eat items. The government expects agricultural exports to grow by more than 20 per cent in the next three years, helping India meet its target of $100 billion in agri-exports by 2030. Marine products from India will also enjoy zero tariffs in the UK, which could lead to better earnings for Indian fishermen due to higher procurement prices. The chemical industry is likely to see a significant jump in exports to the UK — by 30-40 per cent — reaching $650-750 million in 2025-26. Tariff cuts to boost UK-India trade India will also gradually reduce import tariffs on several British products. For instance, duties on whisky will drop from 150 per cent to 40 per cent over ten years. British cars will see import taxes fall from over 100 per cent to 10 per cent, under a quota system. Tariffs on gin, cosmetics, and medical devices will also be reduced. In return, the UK will offer zero-duty access to 99 per cent of Indian exports, including textiles, leather goods, gems, jewellery, marine items, toys, and sports equipment. The agreement will also open up opportunities for Indian companies to bid for public projects in the UK in sectors such as healthcare, transport, and energy. [With agency inputs]

Resurgent India targets Rs 500 crore through special situation AIF

Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) Resurgent India, an investment bank, is targeting Rs 500 crore with the launch of its Category I Alternative Investment Fund (AIF), registered as a Special Situation Fund with market regulator Sebi. The company, in a release, said it completed the first close with Rs 100 crore, which has already been invested in a stressed asset this year. 'They aim to close the remaining Rs 400 crore by the end of the current financial year. The fund will focus on acquiring and reviving stressed assets across India to create value for investors over the medium to long term," it said. Registered under Sebi's Category I framework, the Special Situation Fund will invest across sectors, including manufacturing, EPC, power, hospitality, healthcare, and real estate. The fund follows a sector-agnostic approach, targeting assets with high revival prospects and scalable resale potential. Geographically, the focus will remain pan-India, concentrating on regions with a high presence of industrial activity and stressed assets, the Sebi-registered Category I merchant banker said. 'With our Rs 500 crore Special Situation Fund, we aim to systematically acquire, revive, and scale assets that hold real potential but face temporary financial or operational distress. Our approach is strategic and patient, with a focus on generating stable, risk-adjusted returns for investors," said Jyoti Prakash Gadia, Managing Director at Resurgent India. Established in 2005, Resurgent India has executed over 1,000 transactions across sectors. It offers services like mergers and acquisitions, private equity, debt syndication, and advisory. India flexible on Chinese investments in electronics: Govt source

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) India is flexible for collaboration of domestic companies with Chinese, especially electronics, a government source said on Friday. Around 60 per cent of electronics manufacturing happens in China, and hence, it is not easy to ignore it, the source added. 'Things are easing (between India and China). There are signals. Tourist visas have been opened. In electronics, 60 per cent of manufacturing takes place in China. So, there has to be some sort of collaboration," the sources said. He was replying to a question on government approval for the Dixon joint venture with Chinese companies. Dixon Technologies has received approval from the Indian government to form a joint venture (JV) with Chinese peer Longcheer. Dixon has been reaching out to several Chinese companies for joint ventures. It has signed separate agreements with Chinese electronic component firms — Chongqing Yuhai Precision Manufacturing Co Ltd and the Indian arm of Kunshan Q Technology — for manufacturing and sales of electronic components used in electronic devices like mobile phones and laptops, among others.
