France, Egypt deepen economic ties with €260 Million in New Agreements
CAIRO - 7 April 2025: French President Emmanuel Macron revealed that France is strengthening its economic partnership with Egypt through new agreements totaling over €260 million in grants and loans. The announcement came during a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo.
Macron explained that the funds—channeled through the French Development Agency—will target key sectors in Egypt such as energy, transportation, water resources, and sanitation services.
He also emphasized that French investments in Egypt have now reached €7 billion, a figure that reflects France's long-term commitment to the Egyptian economy and its support for sustainable development initiatives.
President El-Sisi, in turn, expressed confidence in the growing economic collaboration between the two nations. He noted a shared intention to boost cooperation in railway manufacturing, which is expected to play a central role in modernizing Egypt's transport infrastructure.
El-Sisi also highlighted Egypt's anticipation of receiving the second installment of a €4 billion EU support package, stressing the importance of timely financial support in advancing national development goals.
Beyond economic matters, the two leaders discussed regional challenges, including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's unwavering stance on adhering to international law in resolving the dispute. Macron pledged France's commitment to facilitating a fair and balanced resolution with Ethiopia, and voiced support for Egypt's right to protect its water security under international legal frameworks.

Bahrain & Kuwait Reopen Airspace
Rana Atef Both Bahrain and Kuwait have reopened their airspace after a temporary closure that lasted several hours after an Iranian missile attack on the US Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Previously, five countries, namely Iraq, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain, had announced the closure of their airspace following the targeting of the Al-Udeid base in Doha. The missile strike came a day after U.S. airstrikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Qatar's Ministry of Defense announced on Monday evening that it had successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting the Al-Udeid Air Base. In a statement posted on its official account on X (formerly Twitter), the ministry said: "Qatari air defenses successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting Al-Udeid Air Base." It added that, "Thanks to God, the vigilance of the armed forces, and precautionary measures taken, no casualties or injuries resulted from the incident." The ministry reaffirmed that "the airspace and territory of the State of Qatar remain safe, and the Qatari Armed Forces are always fully prepared to respond to any threat." The ministry also urged citizens and residents to rely on official sources for updates and guidance. Before the missile strike, Qatari authorities had already temporarily suspended air traffic in the country's airspace as part of precautionary measures in response to the evolving regional situation. Kuwait announced the reopening of its airspace and the return of operations at Kuwait International Airport to normal after confirming that surrounding conditions had stabilized. Earlier, Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation had announced a "temporary" closure of the country's airspace starting today until further notice. Bahrain also announced a full reopening of its airspace after initially suspending air traffic as a precaution in response to regional developments. In Oman, the national airline announced the temporary suspension of flights amid rising tensions in the region. In Iraq, Ministry of Transport spokesperson Metham Al-Safi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the country had closed its airspace to all air traffic, including over the southern region. Military sources earlier told Reuters that air defense systems had been activated at the US Al-Asad Air Base in Iraq in anticipation of a possible attack. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Israel is breaching key human rights agreement with its war on Gaza: EU findings - Region
The European Union says there are indications that Israel's actions in Gaza are violating human rights obligations in the agreement governing its ties with the EU, according to its findings seen by The Associated Press. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas presented the review to foreign minsters of the 27-member bloc in Brussels on Monday, leading at least one country to openly propose suspending the agreement. 'There are indications that Israel would be in breach of its human rights obligations under Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement,' according to the review by the EU's diplomatic corps, the European External Action Service. Suspending ties would require a unanimous decision, which is likely impossible to obtain from countries like Austria, Germany and Hungary that tend to back Israel. Other actions — such as ending visa-free travel to Europe for Israelis, sanctioning Israeli settlers in the West Bank or halting academic partnerships — could be pushed if a "qualified majority' — 15 of the 27 nations representing at least 65% of the population of the EU — agree. Countries like the Netherlands, Ireland and Spain have been vocal in their support for the Palestinians in Gaza amid the genocidal Israeli war. 'When all the focus is on Iran and the escalation regarding Iran, we should not forget about Gaza,' said Dutch foreign minister Caspar Veldkamp, who led the charge for the review. Israel has killed 56,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, in Gaza since launching its war on the territory, and has imposed a near-total blockade since ending the latest ceasefire in March. Outrage over Israel's actions in Gaza has grown in Europe as images of suffering Palestinians have driven protests in London, Berlin, Brussels, Madrid and Amsterdam. Spain has canceled arms deals with Israel and called for an arms embargo. Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno on Monday called for suspending the EU-Israel agreement. 'The time for words and declarations is behind. We had enough time,' he told the meeting. 'And at the same time, Palestinians in Gaza have no more time to lose. Every day, babies, women, men are being killed. This is the time for action.' Manuel Albares also called for an embargo on EU countries selling weapons to Israel and for the widening of individual sanctions on anyone undermining the proposed two-state solution. 'Europe must show courage,' he told journalists. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
