Malaysia, Russia explore new cooperation opportunities including energy sector

MOSCOW (June 25): Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today began his official working visit in the Russian capital with a bilateral meeting with his counterpart Alexei Overchuk.
Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, was accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin, and Malaysia's Ambassador to Russia Datuk Cheong Loon Lai.
The bilateral meeting, held at the White House Moscow, discussed among other things the existing bilateral trade as well as exploring new cooperation opportunities, particularly in the energy sector, technology transfer, education, and training.
The bilateral meeting will also be attended by Russia's Deputy Minister of Energy, Evgeny Petrovich Grabchak, and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Vladimir Ilichev.
Fadillah's working visit to Russia is a continuation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Russia on May 13-16 this year, aimed at deepening, enhancing, exploring new cooperation between the two countries.
Diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Russia have been established since 1967.
In 2024, Russia is Malaysia's ninth largest trading partner among European countries, with trade value reaching RM11.46 billion (US$2.48 billion).
Malaysia's main exports to Russia include electrical and electronics products, machinery, equipment and spare parts, as well as processed food. – Bernama bilateral meeting economy energy fadillah yusof Russia

Zelenskiy mentioned air-defence systems but it was not immediately clear whether Trump was referring to more missiles or complete batteries. Trump also left open the possibility of providing more military aid to Kyiv, which has suffered grinding Russian advances on the battlefield in recent months. He had previously shown no sign of resuming the donations of weaponry to Ukraine that his predecessor Joe Biden had instituted after Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022. Asked directly whether the U.S. would contribute more funding to Ukraine's defence this year, Trump said: "As far as money going, we'll see what happens." The U.S.-made Patriot batteries are critical to shooting down the Russian ballistic missiles that have increasingly rained on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks. Dozens of people have been killed over the past week on the capital Kyiv and the southeastern regional capital of Dnipro. Zelenskiy said before Wednesday's meeting that Ukraine was willing to buy more Patriots if the U.S. was unwilling to donate them. He said the talks with Trump were "long and substantive". "Ukraine is ready to buy this equipment and support American weapons manufacturers," Zelenskiy wrote on X. "We also discussed the potential for co-production of drones. We can strengthen each other." Trump added that he would soon speak once more with Putin, adding: "Look, Vladimir Putin really has to end that war." MORE FORMAL LOOK FOR ZELENSKIY Zelenskiy wore a dark, suit-style jacket to the meeting, in contrast to the more informal military-style garb he was criticised for wearing at a disastrous White House meeting with Trump in February. He has since worked to rebuild relations with the Trump administration, whose overtures to Russia have concerned Kyiv. However, he had to settle for attending the pre-summit dinner on Tuesday evening rather than the main meeting on Wednesday, which backed the big NATO-wide increase in defence spending that Trump had demanded. Unlike last year, this year's summit declaration contained no mention of future NATO membership for Ukraine. While the statement denounced what it called the long-term threat posed by Russia to European and Atlantic security, it did not directly blame Russia for the invasion, as previous declarations have. Communications Ministry Among Three Ministries Recognised For Cutting Bureaucratic Red Tape
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications is among three ministries recognised for successfully implementing reforms to reduce bureaucratic red tape, earning a special certificate of appreciation for the achievement. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the ministry significantly improved the approval process for foreign film scripts, reducing the timeline from 30 days to just seven, resulting in regulatory cost savings of up to RM2.4 million per production. "This, in turn, enhances Malaysia's competitiveness as a preferred destination for international film production," he said in a Facebook post today. The Ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, received the special certificate from Shamsul Azri at a ceremony in Putrajaya yesterday. Another ministry recognised for its achievement is the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), where reforms were driven through the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), which successfully reduced the approval time for Electric Vehicle Charging Bay Plan Certifications from 28 days to just three. He added that JBPM also expedited the approval process for non-system-based technical plan certifications, reducing it from 30 days to just seven. 'This was achieved through streamlined procedures and the strengthening of the e-Premis system and development of a central data repository, resulting in annual regulatory cost savings of RM1.776 million,' he said. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) successfully reduced barriers to financing in the aerospace sector, generating RM17 million in regulatory savings for 50 small and medium enterprises by boosting production capacity by up to 30 percent. 'Gross profit margins increased by over 20 percent through automation and certification, further strengthening the supply chain and creating more high-skilled jobs. Reforms are being intensified and improvements accelerated,' he said.

10A and above SPM students to get matriculation placements: MOE

KUALA LUMPUR: All students who obtained 10As and above in last year's Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination and applied for the Matriculation Programme will be offered places, regardless of race or background. The Ministry of Education (MOE) said this was agreed upon at today's Cabinet Ministers' Meeting. "This includes students who obtained 10As and had A- results. This policy is the same as the one announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year. "This decision is made to ensure all top-performing students in the 2024 SPM examination have the opportunity to further their studies,' it said in a statement today. It added that the existing Bumiputera quota system for the Matriculation Programme remains unaffected.
