As flying taxis prepare for take-off in the UAE, Abu Dhabi is setting aside spaces for them to actually land. Vertiports will be constructed at three locations in Abu Dhabi - Al Bateen, Yas Island and Khalifa Port - as part of efforts to integrate electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft into the city's transport system. The announcement was made by Abu Dhabi-based AI-powered drone company LODD and Skyports Infrastructure during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS).
These vertiports will serve as designated areas for the takeoff, landing and servicing of flying taxis, which are scheduled to begin operations in 2026. The initiative is expected to enhance both passenger transport and autonomous aerial logistics, with potential for connectivity across the UAE.
The infrastructure will support both commercial eVTOL passenger services and cargo transport, bringing logistical benefits to businesses as well as commuters.
This announcement follows Dubai's recent unveiling of its first commercial vertiport, Dubai International Vertiport (DXV), with three more sites planned for completion in early 2026.
