BRS leaders skip Kavitha's dharna
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders stayed away from attending the dharna organised by MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha against issuing notices to party supremo and her father K Chandrashekar Rao. A few loyalists and followers of Kavitha only were present in the protest on Wednesday at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad.
The Telangana Jagruti leader took a swipe at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for maintaining silence on the construction of projects on river Godavari by the Andhra Pradesh government. She demanded the Chief Minister to lodge a complaint with the Union government against AP for constructing the Banakacharla project on Godavari.
Kavitha questioned Revanth Reddy for maintaining silence on his AP counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu's quick moves to complete the Banakacharla project without water allocations and permissions. She demanded the CM to bring the issue to the notice of Apex Council and Union Jal Shakti ministry and protect the interests of the Telangana state. The BRS rebel leader also criticised Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay for not opposing the Banakacharla project which she says is detrimental to Telangana's interests.
Explaining the reasons for taking up the Kaleshwaram project by the previous BRS government, Kavitha said that the biggest lift scheme in the country provided a facility to utilise 140 tmcft of Godavari waters. The Pranahita–Chevella project envisaged by the Congress government in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh could only draw 16 tmcft of water.
Announcing that she will launch a movement demanding to allocate more water for Telangana, Kavitha said that the government owed the responsibility of the repairs of the damaged barrages, including Medigadda, without any delay.
Only the Kaleshwaram project will fetch the water needs of Telangana in the future, she said, appealing to BJP MP Eatala Rajendar to come forward and protect the state's interests in water allocations and utilisation.

‘Issue of our national interest': Russia's Ukraine war is 'existential', says Kremlin; massive strikes hit Kyiv

At least three people were killed in Kyiv as more than 400 drones and over 40 missiles were fired across six regions of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials. 'For us it is an existential issue, an issue of our national interest, safety, of our future and the future of our children, of our country,' Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, responding to US President Donald Trump's controversial remark comparing Russia and Ukraine to 'fighting kids'. The overnight assault, described as 'massive' by Russia's defence ministry, was billed as retaliation for a daring Ukrainian drone attack on Russian airbases earlier this week. According to news agency AFP, Ukrainian officials said the barrage struck nine regions, including Lviv, Volyn and Kyiv, leaving dozens injured and critical infrastructure damaged. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Moscow of escalating the war, warning that failure to rein in Russia would amount to complicity. 'If someone does not put pressure and gives the war more time to take lives, they are complicit and responsible. We need to act decisively,' he said on social media. Three emergency responders were killed in Kyiv while attending to earlier strikes, according to Interior Minister Igor Klymenko. 'They were working under fire to help people,' he said, noting nine more were wounded and 'doctors are fighting for their lives.' AFP journalists in Kyiv reported prolonged air raid sirens and explosions through the night. In one district, a multi-storey building was left with a gaping hole, and windows were shattered across nearby homes. 'We heard a drone — we heard it coming very close, and then there was an explosion,' resident Ksenia was quoted as saying by AFP. The attacks follow a Ukrainian strike on Russian airfields that damaged nuclear-capable bombers deep within Siberia. The Ukrainian operation involved smuggling over 100 small drones into Russia, positioning them near airbases, and launching a coordinated assault. In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of retaliation, with Russia's defence ministry claiming it hit Ukrainian 'arms depots, drone factories and repair facilities' using long-range precision weapons. Despite US-backed peace efforts, talks between Kyiv and Moscow have produced no breakthroughs. While Ukraine has proposed an unconditional 30-day ceasefire and direct talks between Zelensky and Putin, the Kremlin continues to demand a full Ukrainian military withdrawal from four occupied regions and a ban on NATO membership — conditions Kyiv rejects. Kyiv officials said at least 49 people were injured nationwide. In Russia, drone attacks reportedly damaged facilities in Tula and Saratov, and air defences downed 174 Ukrainian drones overnight, according to Moscow's defence ministry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, have agreed to expedite the conclusion of the India-EU FTA by the end of the year. 'Our focus is on realising the Italy-India Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029. Underscored the transformative potential of the IMEC Corridor and India-EU FTA. Also, extended an invitation to Italian enterprises to join India's growth story,' Goyal said in a post on X. India and Italy reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic ties, with a strong focus on enhancing trade, joint ventures and connectivity through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC). In a joint press conference, Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani said there is 'huge scope' for boosting India-EU trade through the potential offered by IMEEC. Tajani called for stronger collaborations in sectors such as space, technology, steel and aluminium.
