When the results were announced on April 8, the first position was shared by Deeksha and Amulya Kamath from Expert PU College in Mangaluru, both scoring 599 out of 600. Deeksha, who secured 100 in all subjects except chemistry, applied for revaluation. Mamatha, the principal of Vagdevi PU College, where Deeksha studies, confirmed that post-revaluation, Deeksha's chemistry score increased to 100, with theory marks rising from 69 to 70.

Her father, Raghavendra Kalkur told TOI that his experience as a teacher helped identify valuation discrepancies. Upon obtaining the chemistry answer script photocopy, they found in Part D, where students must answer four out of six questions worth five marks each, Deeksha had attempted all questions. The evaluator overlooked correct answers in a five-mark question split into parts A and B (worth 3 and 2 marks). After filing objections, the department rectified the oversight, raising her total from 69 to 70 marks, which was confirmed in a mobile message from the PU Board, he stated.
Deeksha's parents, Raghavendra and Usha V, serve as teachers in govt high schools in Thirthahalli.
Commerce rank 3 is now no. 1
Meanwhile, in the commerce stream, Prateeksha of ASC PU College Rajajinagar shifted from third position to first position after the revaluation. Now, she shares the first position with S Deepashree of Canara College, Mangaluru, both scoring 599 out of 600. Prateeksha had earlier secured 597, and in revaluation, she gained two more marks in English.
"I was confident about my marks in English. I was hoping for 99 or at least 98. But on the result day, I was disappointed. In the photocopy of the answer script, I saw that I lost two marks for no reason. My teachers encouraged me to apply for revaluation. Now, I am happy with my marks," said the CA aspirant.
As per the data by
Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board
(KSEAB), there were changes in marks of 5,800 students who applied for revaluation and 1,470 applications did not see any changes. The changes were as significant as 60 marks in one case.

Trump signs order to ease commercial spaceflight regulations
. US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday that he claimed would ease regulations that govern commercial rocket launches. The order directs the US transportation secretary to eliminate or expedite environmental reviews for launch licenses given by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). "Inefficient permitting processes discourage investment and innovation, limiting the ability of US companies to lead in global space markets," the executive order reads. It also calls for the cancellation of "outdated, redundant or overly restrictive rules for launch and reentry vehicles," according to a statement released by the White House. Could the move benefit Elon Musk ? Trump's latest executive order also states that "inefficient" permitting processes "discourage investment and innovation," which in turn limits US companies' ability to lead in global space markets. The move could benefit private space companies such as SpaceX , the company owned by former Trump advisor Elon Musk, despite the two falling out publicly in recent months. The company — which dominates the global private space launches market — plans missions to the Moon and Mars using its Starship rockets, which saw a series of setbackslastly in June as a routine test ended up in an explosion. Environment groups slam executive order Environmental groups have criticized Trump's moves to deregulate commercial spaceflight. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The boy meets a dog on the street - no one expected what happened next. The FAA approved an increase in annual SpaceX Starship launches from five to 25 in early may, saying it would not negatively affect the environment. SpaceX boss Musk, the world's richest man, has repeatedly complained that studies over the environmental impact of Starship slow the tests of the rocket, together with post-flight mishap investigations and licensing reviews required by the FAA.

Giant virus discovered in Pacific Ocean with the longest tail ever recorded
Scientists exploring the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre have uncovered a giant virus with a tail longer than any seen before. Dubbed PelV-1, the virus infects a type of plankton called Pelagodinium and boasts a 2.3-micrometer-long tail, roughly 19 times longer than the coronavirus responsible for COVID-19. Its 200-nanometer capsid is dwarfed by the unprecedented appendage, which researchers say may help the virus attach to and enter host cells. While most viruses either lack tails or have tiny ones, PelV-1's structure is unique. Time-lapse imaging shows the tail attaching to plankton cells during infection, yet newly formed viruses inside the cells appear tail-less, suggesting the appendage forms only after the virus exits its host. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like With temperatures hitting 95°F, this is the mini air conditioner everyone's buying in the U.S News of the Discovery Undo PelV-1 was discovered at Station ALOHA, a long-term monitoring site north of Hawaii . Scientists collected seawater from 25 meters below the surface, isolating the plankton and unexpectedly identifying the viral hitchhiker. Viruses that infect dinoflagellates like Pelagodinium are extremely rare; only two other large DNA viruses are known to target this group. Understanding these viruses could shed light on energy flow, nutrient cycles, and even harmful algal blooms in ocean ecosystems. Live Events The genome of PelV-1 is massive for a virus, with 467 genes across 459,000 base pairs. Remarkably, some of these genes are typically found only in living cells, including parts of energy production cycles, light-harvesting proteins, and rhodopsins, light-sensitive molecules that may help the virus capture sunlight. The study also revealed a second, rarer virus in the same culture, named co-PelV. Unlike PelV-1, it lacks a tail but carries metabolic genes that could alter its host's behavior and energy use. Future research will explore how PelV-1 assembles its tail, the role it plays in infection, and whether other long-tailed viruses exist in the oceans.
