Brewers Claim Speedy Outfielder From Athletics In Bid To Bolster Roster Depth originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Milwaukee Brewers have made a roster move in the midst of Sunday's finale against the San Diego Padres. The team announced that they have claimed outfielder Drew Avans off waivers from the Athletics.

Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was first to report the move.
The Brewers had an open 40 man roster spot following Tyler Alexander's DFA last week. That spot is now filled with Avans, who has been immediately optioned to Triple-A Nashville. Avans is a 28 year old speedy outfielder that just got his first taste of the big leagues this year with the Athletics.

While Avans' MLB debut did not go particularly well, getting just two hits in 15 ABs, he's put up some strong numbers in Triple-A. He's been at Triple-A since 2021, with most of those years coming in the Dodgers organization. He signed with the A's as a minor league free agent ahead of the 2025 season.

This year, Avans is hitting .328/.414/.444 with four homers, 16 stolen bases and 30 walks to 31 strikeouts.
Avans has stolen at least 20 bases in every season of his pro career except for one and his career high is 40 steals.
The Athletics DFAed Avans on Friday. The Brewers have been lacking some outfield depth since Garrett Mitchell and Blake Perkins have been on the IL most of the season. Daz Cameron has been the backup outfielder for Milwaukee and has just a .522 OPS since being called up.
They don't have many options in the upper minors to call upon, so Avans provides some additional depth. He's a left-handed hitter, so he makes for some redundancy as the Brewers have a bevy of lefty hitting outfielders. The Brewers also have MLB veteran Eddie Rosario down in Triple-A.

Perhaps Avans' speed and on-base ability will be able to translate if he's given some run in Milwaukee that he wasn't able to find with the Athletics.

NFL Fans React to Breaking Nick Chubb News

NFL Fans React to Breaking Nick Chubb News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In the early part of his career, Nick Chubb established himself as one of the most powerful, consistent running backs in the NFL. After rushing for 6,341 yards while scoring 48 rushing touchdowns through his first five seasons of his career, injuries proceeded to take over. Advertisement Chubb, now 29 years old, has missed 24 total games in his past two seasons due to multiple injuries. Since 2023, Chubb has missed time due to a torn ACL, MCL, and a broken foot. The once dominant Cleveland Browns RB, has reportedly found a new home for the impending NFL season. According to multiple sources, Chubb, pending a physical, will sign with the Houston Texans ahead of the 2025-26 NFL season. Chubb will join Joe Mixon in the backfield, adding to an already talented roster that consists of Nico Collins, Christian Kirk, and Dalton Schultz. The instant the news broke of Chubb's potential new deal, NFL fans rushed to social media to post their reactions. Advertisement "Bro is still dangerous," @SleeperHQ posted on X. Another user on X, is more concerned on the impact this has on Chubb's former team, "Browns are fully cooked." @BetMGM posted a throwback to a dominant touchdown run by Chubb back in 2019. Another user on X appears to think this is a major upgrade to the Texans backfield, giving them a strong one-two punch, "Chubb and Mixon is a nasty duo. Chubb's 2024-25 NFL season ended after just eight games due to a broken left foot. If all goes well with Chubb's physical and rehabilitation, Chubb could make his Texans debut early on in the 2025-26 NFL season. Blue Jays Announce Daulton Varsho News After Leaving Athletics Game

Blue Jays Announce Daulton Varsho News After Leaving Athletics Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays and Athletics are playing the third of four-straight games at Rogers Centre on Saturday. Toronto took the first two games of this series from the A's in convincing fashion. Winning 12-0 on Thursday, the Blue Jays followed that with an 11-7 victory on Friday. Advertisement Looking to make it a third straight win over the Athletics and fourth straight overall, Toronto fell in an early 3-0 hole on Saturday before rallying to score four in the bottom of the first, adding a run in each of the next to innings to lead 6-5 after three. One early contributor was outfielder Daulton Varsho who walked, doubled and scored. Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho (5)© John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images One of MLB's best defensive outfielders, Varsho has contributed offensively this season as well. His .783 OPS is a career-high and he has 20 RBIs in just 24 games. Unfortunately for he and the Blue Jays, an apparent leg injury forced his exit on Saturday. Advertisement Shortly after Varsho was removed the Blue Jays announced an official update, revealing Varsho exited due to left hamstring discomfort. Injuries have cost Varsho time already this season. The 2024 Gold Glove Award winner missed time earlier in the year due to right shoulder surgery recovery, but has returned in good form. Saturday's injury is obviously unrelated to Varsho's shoulder injury, but presents a problem for the Blue Jays if it forces him to miss an extended time. Not only will the team miss his Gold Glove defense, but the left-handed hitter has been among the team's best run producers since returning. Blue Jays Receive Major Daulton Varsho News

Blue Jays Receive Major Daulton Varsho News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays are riding a wave of momentum, having secured their fifth consecutive victory with a 6-4 comeback win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday night. This impressive stretch has improved their record to 34-29, placing them third in the AL East. The team's resurgence is largely attributed to a revitalized offense, with key contributions from players like George Springer and Addison Barger, who both homered in the recent game. Advertisement The Blue Jays aim to extend their winning streak in the second game of the series against the Twins on Saturday. Kevin Gausman (5-4, 3.82 ERA) is set to take the mound for Toronto, facing off against Minnesota's Chris Paddack (2-5, 3.58 ERA). The Twins, also holding a 34-29 record, will be looking to rebound and maintain their position in the AL Central. Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho (5)© John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images Amid this successful run, the Blue Jays have been managing without key outfielder Daulton Varsho, who was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. Varsho sustained the injury while attempting to stretch a hit into a triple during a game against the Athletics. Despite this setback, there is positive news: Varsho has begun baseball activities at the team's complex in Dunedin, Florida. He is currently hitting in the batting cages and playing catch, though he has not yet resumed running. While there is no definitive timeline for Varsho's return, his progress is encouraging. His return would bolster the Blue Jays' lineup, as he is tied with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer for the team lead with eight home runs, despite playing in only 24 of the team's 58 games this season. As Toronto continues its push in the standings, getting Varsho back to full strength could be a significant boost for the team's aspirations.
