ABU DHABI (WAM)Afra Mahash Al Hameli, Director of the Strategic Communications Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), expressed her pride in the election of Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais as the first woman to hold the role of Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in the history of the organisation.Al Hameli emphasised that this achievement highlights the UAE's leading position on the global stage and reflects the wise leadership's vision of empowering women and promoting their participation in leading international organisations.She affirmed that this historic win is not only a personal achievement but also an international testament to the competence of Emirati talent.Al Hameli added that this milestone reflects the UAE's approach, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in empowering women and strengthening their presence in international fora.
She added, 'This achievement reinforces the UAE's leading role in supporting the development of sustainable tourism at the global level and reflects the growing international confidence in our national talent.'

UAE, Kuwait ink multiple agreements, includes Dhs9bn naval contract
Imge courtesy: WAM The UAE and Kuwait signed a series of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on Monday, aimed at deepening cooperation across strategic sectors including health, energy, education, and defence, during an official visit by UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, state news agency, WAM reported. The signing ceremony, held at Bayan Palace in the presence of Sheikh Mansour and Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, underscores the two Gulf nations' intent to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties amid evolving regional dynamics. The agreements span a wide range of areas, with key MoUs covering healthcare, infrastructure, investment, social development, energy transition, and AI, as both countries pursue mutual development priorities and enhanced regional integration. UAE-Kuwait agreements signed According to the WAM report, the key deals signed cover sectors such as: Health: MoUs were signed between the UAE and Kuwait's health ministries to boost collaboration in medical services and public health policy. Education: Both countries agreed to expand cooperation in the education sector through a pact signed by their respective ministers of education. Energy and infrastructure: MoUs included commitments to collaborate in land transport, roads, oil and gas, and future energy initiatives such as water and electricity. Technology and industry: A separate agreement focused on industry and advanced technology was signed to support innovation and knowledge exchange. Humanitarian and legal affairs: Joint frameworks were agreed to address human trafficking and legal cooperation, reflecting a shared focus on rights and rule of law. Investment: The UAE's Minister of Investment and the head of Kuwait's Direct Investment Promotion Authority signed an MoU to promote bilateral investment flows. Security and data: Ministries of Interior from both sides inked an MoU on data protection and joint security information-sharing projects. AI partnership initiated, naval contract with EDGE The Kuwait Investment Authority joined the 'Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership' initiative, which includes global partners MGX, BlackRock, Global Infrastructure Partners, and Microsoft — adding regional backing to the tech-driven project. In a separate defence agreement, Kuwait's Ministry of Defence signed a contract with UAE-based EDGE Group for the procurement of several 'Falaj 3' class missile boats, highlighting deepening defence industry ties between the two states. Representing the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and one of the highest-value naval export deals globally, the agreement positions EDGE as the prime contractor overseeing the design, construction, trials, delivery, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), and In-Service Support (ISS) for the vessels. EDGE will also supply ammunition, highlighting its end-to-end defence capabilities. Sharjah and China strengthen cooperation and partnership
Sharjah Asset Management, the investment arm of the Government of Sharjah, has concluded a strategic visit to the People's Republic of China. The visit aimed to strengthen international cooperation and expand partnership opportunities between the two countries in the areas of research and development, knowledge exchange, and the exploration of promising opportunities in new sectors. This initiative is part of the broader efforts to enhance bilateral relations between the UAE and China and contribute to driving sustainable development in the Emirate of Sharjah. During the visit, Sharjah Asset Management signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with (CICC), in the presence of Sheikh Saud Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Deputy Chairman of Sharjah Asset Management; Omar Al Mulla, CEO Ossol Investment; Saeed Sharar, CEO Ossol investments; along with a group of CEOs and directors from Sharjah Asset Management, and a delegation representing the Bank of China. Sheikh Saud Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, stated:'This agreement marks a new starting point for a fruitful collaboration with CICC. This partnership will open new horizons for research, investment, innovation, and the exchange of expertise and knowledge between both parties. It will also pave the way for meaningful achievements across key sectors such as finance, technology, and sustainable development, ultimately contributing to long-term economic progress.' A spokesperson from (CICC) affirmed that the partnership with Sharjah Asset Management reflects the company's commitment to strengthening Acooperation between China and the UAE, and to exploring new opportunities that this partnership offers—particularly in the fields of research and development. Additionally, they visited 'H World Group', which operates over 11,000 hotels across 19 countries, to gain insights into hotel operations and discuss potential expansion and partnership opportunities in the Emirate of Sharjah. The UAE and China enjoy strong economic and trade relations, with China being the UAE's largest trading partner and the UAE remaining China's largest partner in the Middle East and North Africa region. Nearly 15,500 Chinese companies have operated in the UAE markets so far. Separately, Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) recently concluded a multi-city business mission across China, further solidifying its role in advancing UAE-China trade and investment relations.
