DIHAD Opens in Dubai to Drive Global Humanitarian Collaboration
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the event was inaugurated by H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture. She was joined by ambassadors, international delegates, and senior officials during a tour of the exhibition.
Now in its 21st edition, DIHAD brings together over 18,000 participants from 160 countries, including representatives from UN agencies, charities, and private sector providers. The conference features 131 speakers across 64 sessions and nearly 200 workshops.
Dr. Abdulsalam AlMadani, Chairman of DIHAD, described the event as a global platform for sustainable solutions, stressing the urgency of unity and innovation in today's fragmented world.
Switzerland was announced as this year's Guest of Honour. Ambassador Patricia Danzi, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, praised DIHAD's role in fostering cooperation and reaffirmed Switzerland's humanitarian commitment.
The conference also saw the launch of the DIHAD 2044 agenda, a long-term strategy built around sustainability, empowerment, partnership, education, and innovation. With over 3,000 active partnerships, organisers aim to strengthen global impact and local engagement in the years ahead.
Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, received the DIHAD International Personality Award for Humanitarian Relief 2025 in recognition of her outstanding global contributions.
Roundtable sessions on Day One highlighted key issues including youth volunteerism and international cooperation in crisis response, reinforcing the UAE's growing role as a global humanitarian leader.

The Arabian Silk Road: First Global Path to Responsible Consumption and Production
Renowned for its green plains and world-famous dates, Al Qassim has emerged as a Saudi model for integrating agricultural heritage with modern sustainability practices. Under the patronage of HRH Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the 'Qassim Land' initiative was launched to promote green cities and a circular economy, in support of SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. SGBF Secretary-General Faisal Al-Fadl, explained that the Qassim governor's initiative is documented through saaf® as a standard framework that promotes innovation and sustainability. He also emphasized that 'circular economy is no longer an option but a necessity to ensure food and environmental security.' Dubbed 'the Arab Silk Road', the Qassim dates industry reaches markets across various continents. To further elevate the Kingdom's standing, HH the Governor of AlQassim launched the 'International Date Road' initiative to link Saudi date production to the historic Silk Road. The project will facilitate the export of more than 578,000 tons of dates annually, strengthening the Kingdom's position as a global hub for date trade, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 objectives. The Saudi Green Building Forum, recognized in Consultative Status with the United Nations, hosts its 15th edition, with 3,000+ participants, from companies such as Saudi Aramco, Nesma & Partners, Climatech, Roshan, and Shaker Group. Titled: 'Energizing Green Action: Driving Nature-Based Solutions for Sustainable Development Goals', the SGBF will feature 50 speakers and more than 20 sessions to address green city challenges, promote multilateral agreements, and further accelerate localization of Sustainable Development Goals in light of Saudi Vision 2030. Sponsored by the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, the forum will take place on October 1-2, 2025, at Al-Malfa Hall – Mohammed bin Salman Non-Profit City (MiSK City), Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment Delivers AED1.7 Billion Housing Support to 3,027 Citizens
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment (MBRHE) has provided over AED1.725 billion in housing support packages to 3,027 Emirati beneficiaries in the first half of 2025, reinforcing Dubai's commitment to social stability and quality of life. The initiative follows the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council. The packages include 1,390 housing schemes worth AED1.184 billion, enabling citizens to build, maintain, and purchase homes. In addition, 935 housing grants valued at AED540.3 million were allocated for maintenance and construction, while 695 land grants were issued to support home ownership. Mohammed Hassan Al Shehhi, Acting CEO of MBRHE, said the achievements reflect the leadership's vision of providing high-quality housing solutions. Empower to build new 47,000 RT district cooling plant at Dubai Science Park
Image: Getty Images District cooling services provider Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has signed a contract to design a new district cooling plant at Dubai Science Park, the region's first free zone dedicated to the science sector, hosts hundreds of companies and over 3,000 specialised professionals. It serves as an innovation hub for entrepreneurs, SMEs, and multinational corporations engaged in scientific research and development. According to Empower, the new plant will integrate its award-winning technologies, including thermal energy storage (TES) systems to reduce peak load on the grid and treated sewage effluent (TSE) systems to cut freshwater use in operations. Artificial intelligence applications and other advanced solutions will also be deployed to maximise efficiency and sustainability. Empower currently commands more than 80 per cent of Dubai's district cooling market. The new project forms part of its wider expansion plan to meet the city's growing demand for sustainable cooling solutions.
