Global Village Extends Season 29 Until May 18
Dubai's Global Village has extended its current season by one week, pushing the closing date from May 11 to May 18, in response to high visitor turnout and ongoing demand.
The family-favourite destination will now remain open daily from 4pm to 1am, offering guests additional time to enjoy its cultural showcases, food stalls, and entertainment. The extension was announced on Sunday, allowing more visitors to take advantage of ongoing promotions and special events before the season wraps up.
Popular offers will continue through the final week, including the 'Kids Go Free' deal for children under 12, the Dh50 unlimited Carnaval rides package, and the 'Golden Bar Challenge' where guests can win up to Dh2,900 in cash prizes as part of an Dh87,000 pool.
Global Village also confirmed that fireworks will light up the skies during the final weekend—Friday, Saturday, and Sunday—to mark the season finale in style.
In addition to its 250 dining options, many exclusive to the venue, the park has enhanced this season with new cultural performances, entertainment acts, and upgraded infrastructure.
This isn't the first time Global Village has extended its run. Similar extensions were granted in previous years, with the 2022 and 2023 seasons prolonged to accommodate high footfall.
With just days remaining, the extended week offers one last opportunity for residents and tourists to experience the vibrant mix of global culture, cuisine, and entertainment before Season 29 officially comes to a close.

Saudi announces SAR100,000 fine for sheltering visit visa holders during Hajj
The Saudi Ministry of Interior has announced that individuals found sheltering visit visa holders in the Holy City of Makkah or the Holy sites during the Hajj 2025 season will face strict penalties. This measure applies to any form of accommodation — including hotels, apartments, private residences, lodging centres, or Hajj housing sites — or who conceals them or provides assistance enabling them to remain in Makkah and the Holy sites from Dhu Al-Qidah 01 to Dhu Al-Hijjah 14. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Monday, violators may be fined up to SAR100,000. The ministry warned that penalties will increase based on the number of violating individuals accommodated, sheltered, or assisted. AP It also called on the public to report any violations of these regulations by calling 911 in Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, or 999 in other regions of the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia stopped more than 269,000 people without permits for the annual Hajj pilgrimage from entering the Holy City of Makkah, officials said Sunday, as authorities crack down on illegal journeys into the city. The government blames overcrowding at the Hajj on unauthorised participants. It also says they made up large numbers of those who died in last year's searing summer heat. There are currently 1.4 million Muslims in Makkah officially, with more expected to arrive in the days to come.

UAE citizens can use smart gates at New Zealand airports from June 1
From June 1, UAE citizens can use smart gates upon arrival and departure at all airports in New Zealand. To use the smart gates, citizens have to meet certain requirements: Such smart gates have been in place in UAE since a few years. They use biometric tech, a mix of facial and iris recognition, to allow passengers to check in without the hassle of taking out identification documents. However, it is essential to keep your boarding pass and passport ready in case they are needed, as Khaleej Times earlier reported. If the smart gates do not let you in, there is always the option of going back to the immigration counters. The smart gates are designed to minimise wait times and reduce winding queues.

'We're building something that will grow year after year and become a key part of the UAE's innovation narrative, and a franchise that can be rolled out across the GCC and Mena region.' Nominations open on Wednesday, May 28, and individuals, companies, and institutions are encouraged to put forward rising talent making waves in their respective fields.
