South African players are expected to stay for the entirety of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, potentially impacting their World Test Championship Final preparations, reported ANI citing The Sydney Morning Herald.South Africa is set to face Australia in the summit clash at Lord's in London from June 11. Meanwhile, IPL is scheduled to conclude on June 3, after a week long suspension due to escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. The newspaper reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI ) allegedly leveraged its influence to ensure South African players' continued participation. The BCCI suspended the league for a week due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. After the 'stoppage in fire', the IPL is set to resume on May 17 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru hosting defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru."One thing we've made clear, and we are finalising it with the IPL and the BCCI, is that we are sticking to our original plan when it comes to WTC preparations with May 26 being the latest for the Test guys to come back," CSA's director of cricket Enoch Nkwe said, as quoted from The Sydney Morning Herald. However, in just few hours, Nkwe took a U-turn, saying higher-level talks were happening between CSA, the BCCI, and IPL franchises, suggesting CSA had little choice in the matter."Correction - the squad will resume training for the game on June 3rd," he declared."The matter is being discussed higher up than me. At ground level, we are focusing on preps for the WTC final," he said.CSA had earlier insisted that eight of their players would have to leave IPL by May 25 to prepare for the final. However, players like Kagiso Rabada , Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, and Tristan Stubbs may reach England just a week before the final, needing to switch from T20 mode to Test cricket quickly. South Africa's planned warm-up match against Zimbabwe on June 3 might also be affected. For Australia, only Josh Inglis, and Mitchell Starc might be associated with IPL in the playoffs week. The rest, including Pat Cummins and Travis Head, will return to India briefly, but their team, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is already out of the tournament.Meanwhile, Australia is holding training camps in Brisbane and will prepare in London before the final begins on June 11. They won't play a practice match but will focus on match-style training.

'He's Doing The Best He Can': Manjrekar Backs Prasidh's Selection In Playing XI

Last Updated: Prasidh was preferred over Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh in India's playing XI for the ongoing first Test of the five-match series against England. Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar on Sunday (June 22) backed Indian team management's decision to include Prasidh Krishna in the playing XI for the ongoing first Test against England in Leeds. According to Manjrekar, who has now donned the hat of an expert and commentator, Krishna is India's No. 2 seamer, and he is bowling better than Mohammed Siraj. He feels the Karnataka-based fast bowler is doing the best he can, and if he manages to get a couple of wickets, then it will help him build confidence, and he might get better. 'If you see Prasidh Krishna in this Test match as opposed to the Test he played for India earlier in South Africa, he's looked the best to me. Yesterday (Saturday, June 21), although he didn't quite get the wickets, he was still India's number two seamer. He was better than Mohammed Siraj, certainly more potent than Shardul Thakur. So, India made the right choice and went for him; this is Prasidh Krishna doing the best he can. With time, if he gets a couple of wickets and builds confidence, he might just get better and better. I will not be critical of Prasidh Krishna with the way he's bowled—he has done everything he possibly could to the best of his ability," Manjrekar said on 'Match Centre Live' after the first session on Day 3. After failing to take any wicket for India on Day 2 of the Leeds Test, Prasidh helped India get off to a flying start on Day 3, as on the first ball of his second over of the day, he dismissed Ollie Pope. The right-handed batter was caught behind by Rishabh Pant after making 106 runs from 137 balls with the help of 14 fours. Krishna, who last played a Test match for India against Australia in Sydney from January 3-5, 2025, managed to retain his place in the red-ball squad for the England tour by producing a super show for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. He played 15 matches for the Shubman Gill-led side in IPL this year and picked up 25 wickets, which was the most by any bowler. First Published: June 22, 2025, 19:46 IST

Pace star Bumrah equalled legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev's feat for most overseas Test five-fors by an Indian by getting rid of Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue in successive overs shortly before tea on Day 3 at Headingley. read more Jasprit Bumrah displays the ball after completing his five-for on Day 3 of the first Test between India and England in Headingley, Leeds. Reuters Jasprit Bumrah has been the standout Indian bowler in the since he got rid of Zak Crawley in the very first over on Saturday. He accounted all three English wickets that fell on Day 2 and later struck twice in quick succession shortly before tea on Sunday to finish with figures of 5/83. Bumrah added another feather to his cap on Day 3 of the series opener in Leeds with his 14th Test five-for. The 31-year-old, who had 205 wickets to his name at a stunning average of 19.40 before the ongoing match, equalled legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev's record for most five-fors in overseas Tests by an Indian – both having collected 12 each. Gill's last-minute change of heart allows Bumrah to complete his five-for Gill had initially picked Shardul Thakur to bowl the 99th over of the English innings in place of Mohammed Siraj before changing his mind in the last second and handing the ball to Bumrah. Bumrah promptly responded by breaching Woakes' defence with a delivery that nipped back in late and breached his defence, rattling his stumps. And in his following over, he beat Tongue's outside edge to rattle the off-stump and was promptly mobbed by Siraj and other teammates after achieving yet another milestone. The successive wickets ensured India went into the tea interval with a slender six-run lead, and it was especially his dismissal of Woakes, who departed for 38, that prevented England from not only moving into the lead but potentially crossing the 500-mark.

Mohammed Siraj 'wanted to instil fear'; heated exchange backfires as Harry Brook makes him suffer for exchanging words

Mohammed Siraj was expected to shoulder Jasprit Bumrah's responsibility in the absence of Mohammed Shami, but the India pacer, in just his first outing on the tour of England, gave his bowling partner more headaches than relief. Siraj became India's fourth centurion of the Headingley Test match, conceding 2/122, allowing England to pummel 466 in their first innings. But more than the wayward bowling, it was Siraj's attitude and reluctance to learn from his mistakes that infuriated more. It's no secret that Siraj loves to be aggressive, rile the opposition batter up. When it comes off, he looks like a million dollars, but when it doesn't, he reiterates the thin line that exists between looking sexy and looking stupid. India's Mohammed Siraj, right, and England's Harry Brook, left, exchange words on Day 3 of first Test(AFP) Also Read: India vs England, 1st Test Day 3 Updates Unfortunately, on Day 3 of the first Test at Headingley, it was the latter. Not only did Siraj bleed runs, but also looked like he was running out of ideas. Perhaps it was the same frustration that made him have a go at Harry Brook. In the 84th over, a ball from Siraj struck Brook on his pads. Siraj stood there looking at Brook before the batter finally retaliated with something. And that was all it took. Siraj muttered a few words back, and after a few back-and-forth words exchanged, Brook finally shushed Siraj away. That was all the England batter needed to get charged up, as after that incident, Brook went on to unleash a maddening carnage on the Indian bowlers. He looked set for a hundred, but after getting three reprieves, Brook hooked a ball from Prasidh Krishna right down Shardul Thakur's throat at fine leg to get out on 99. Siraj and Jaiswal breathed a sigh of relief, but that doesn't mask the overall picture – Siraj's aggression that needs to be controlled. Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, who was on commentary, aptly summed up what's wrong with Siraj's aggression and why it backfires more often than it succeeds. Dinesh Karthik had a word with Mohammed Siraj during IPL 2025 "Interesting to see Siraj get a bit aggressive. Just have a look at him. Hits the elbow. Siraj had something to say. He likes to get aggressive. He was playing against RCB as well. He got aggressive. And then in one game, he came up against Phil Salt. The game was in Delhi. RCB were chasing and he thought it was the best way to get himself pumped it," Karthik said. "Siraj gave a few words back to Phil Salt and then Salt took off after that. After the match got over, I asked Siraj 'Why did you have to go after him? You were bowling so nicely. He said 'No, I just wanted to instil some fear'. I said but that's what he likes. He immediately turned and said 'You should have told me after before the game started. Not after I got hit'". Siraj's form with the ball has long been a concern for India. He was dropped from India's Champions Trophy squad, but after showing some spark in the IPL for Gujarat Titans, the pacer was picked in India's 18-member squad. Long way ahead, but Siraj should not mind fine-tuning a few things to get back to being a potent threat with the ball.
