Taiwanese comedian Nono guilty of attempted rape, sentenced to 2 and a half years
Chen was sentenced in connection to a 2011 incident involving a woman he met during the filming of a television programme.
The Shilin District Court in Taiwan heard that the TV personality persistently offered to drive the victim home after the shoot. But instead of taking her home, he drove her to a riverside carpark in Taipei's Dadaocheng, where he attempted to rape her.
The ruling said that the victim did not report the assault at the time as she feared public backlash and that Chen's status in the entertainment industry would protect him. However, inspired by Taiwan's MeToo movement in June 2023 which saw other victims speaking out, she decided to come forward.
The court ruled that the victim's statement was credible as the testimonies from her relatives and friends supported her account. They also testified that the victim underwent noticeable changes in her emotional state after the incident.
The court also described the crime as serious and malicious, criticising Chen's continued denial of the allegations, lack of remorse and refusal to offer an apology or compensation.

"The wait has been long, but the moment I saw the smile on our rainbow baby's face, I knew every second was worth it." Lee also apologised for turning down work over the past year to be with his wife. Lin shared her heartfelt post on Instagram on Aug 13, writing in Chinese that the past few years had been "incredibly challenging". "Facing physical, mental and emotional strain, and concerns from everyone, I've managed to appear calm and composed. But in reality, I've become incredibly sensitive and insecure," she admitted. She added that she had been living under a constant barrage of repressed emotions and spent almost the entire pregnancy at home. Addressing her son in her post, Lin said: "Thank you for choosing me to be your mother, thank you for working so hard to grow up, thank you for giving me the courage to face my birthday and thank you for piecing together the broken me bit by bit." She added: "From the moment I heard your first cry, it felt so unreal. I wake up every morning and ask myself, 'Is this true?' Thank you for coming safely to us. Your father and I only hope you will be healthy and safe."

Chen Shucheng nominated for best supporting actor at ContentAsia Awards
For the ContentAsia Awards, Chen Shucheng is up against Taiwanese stars Hsu Hao Hsiang (The Bliss) and Tie-Hsiang Ban (Still Me 2), as well as Thai actors Dom Hetrakul (The Sweetest Taboo) and ToniRakkaen (Good Doctor).
