Over 1,000 pounds of trash removed from St. Johns County beaches during New Year's cleanup
In one day, more than 1,000 pounds of trash were removed from St. Johns County beaches during the New Year's Trash Bash Beach Cleanup.

It was the second year of the event.
Krista Joseph, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, District 4, as well as Commissioner Ann Taylor, District 5, and Commissioner Clay Murphy, District 3 were all in attendance, according to a new release.

'Trash Bash is great, but it needs to be every day,' Joseph said in the release. 'This is our county. This is our life. This is our back yard. We want to take care of it.'
On Jan 24., a total of 250 volunteers from 20 different county departments and community organizations teamed up for the event at eight different locations.

Public invited to comment on Castillo de San Marcos seawall rehabilitation plan
The National Park Service is planning to raise and rehabilitate the sea walls around the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, and it's now asking for public comment on the plan. It includes three alternative plans and analyzes potential impacts. 'We continue to be excited about this project and look forward to increasing resiliency from storm events and flooding to the Fort and St. Augustine,' said Gordie Wilson, Superintendent of Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. 'This project will replace critical centuries-old infrastructure in a thoughtful and sensitive way. The priority is historic preservation and flooding protection of the Fort and the surrounding communities.' To review the plan and provide your own input online, click here. Delta flight makes an emergency landing at Cecil Airport
Delta flight 1576 made an emergency landing Monday afternoon at Cecil Airport on Jacksonville's Westside. According to a spokesperson with the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, the flight was bound for Orlando from Atlanta. It landed safely, and we have no reports of injuries. Fairburn family's home destroyed after fire reignites overnight
A Fairburn family is without a home after facing two back-to-back fires over the weekend. Fairburn Fire Chief Cornelius Robinson says crews first responded to a fire at a home on Autumn Green Road around 12 p.m. on Sunday. 'We came in, and it appears it started in the kitchen,' Robinson explained. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Robinson says that fire was extinguished overnight, but crews were called back to the home early Monday morning after the flames reignited. Neighbors stood outside their homes Monday, watching as crews worked to put the fire out again. Resident Mack Amos says he was shocked to see fire trucks at the same house for the second time in 24 hours. 'I thought they had it under control yesterday afternoon. Waking up at 4:30 a.m. and seeing the fire coming out of the roof again —that was like, 'Oh!'' said Amos.
