UFC main cards, 2025: 49-41-1
Kelvin Gastelum vs. Joe Pyfer UFC 316 preview
Gastelum (19-9 MMA, 13-9 UFC) will aim to make it back-to-back wins for the first time since 2017-18. The former interim title challenger has gone 3-5 since that opportunity for a piece of the title. However, he's 2-1 over his last three, including a unanimous decision over Daniel Rodriguez in his last appearance a year ago. ... Pyfer (13-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) also looks to stay in the win column and make it two in a row after a first-round stoppage of Marc-Andre Barriault last year. Pyfer's lone UFC loss came in the fight prior, a unanimous decision against Jack Hermansson. Thus far, Pyfer has yet to reach the judges in his victorious UFC outings.
Kelvin Gastelum vs. Joe Pyfer UFC 316 expert pick, prediction
Filling out the main card is a middleweight rebooking between Gastelum and Pyfer.

This was initially slated to take place a couple of months back in Mexico City, but Pyfer notably fell ill at the eleventh hour and the fight was moved to this weekend.
Gastelum looks to be in solid shape coming into this contest, but it's impossible to deny his lack of size in this division and the lack of consistency he's shown throughout this back half of his career.
I suspect that Pyfer will hit his own hard ceilings in this division, but I also believe that he's a better wrestler and grappler than he's given credit for – which is particularly relevant to this matchup given Gastelum's traditional weaknesses.

Add in the fact that Pyfer comes from a grappling-heavy camp that's currently red-hot in the UFC and already owns wins over his opponent, and I can't help but pick Pyfer to roll here.
The official pick is Pyfer by submission in Round 2.

Kelvin Gastelum vs. Joe Pyfer UFC 316 start time, how to watch

'It's over': Major UFC name predicts future for relevancy-chasing Conor McGregor

Daniel Cormier doesn't think Conor McGregor fights again. Upon hearing that the UFC plans on holding an event at the White House next July 4 in Washington D.C., McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) has re-entered the drug testing pool and expressed interest in competing again. McGregor posted recent videos and images of him training, but Cormier isn't buying any of his comeback talk. "It's over (for him)," Cormier said of McGregor on "Club Shay Shay." "This dude Conor McGregor, he is tripping. He made way too much (money). He went from plumbing to making – he sold that liquor (company) for what, $500 million? It's too much. He got $100 million for fighting Floyd (Mayweather), then he was doing pay-per-views like nothing. Him and Khabib (Nurmagomedov) did 2.5 million pay-per-view (buys). "He made too much money. Conor says he wants to fight all the time, and everybody jumps to it. But it's like, he wants to stay relevant, he wants to stay in the news, he wants the notoriety of being Conor McGregor without having to be Conor McGregor. That kind of sucks because when he was the man, I bet you tapped in. I bet you tapped into the UFC more than ever because he could sell a fight." It's been more than four years since McGregor last fought when he broke his leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. He was scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 last June, but withdrew due to a broken pinky toe.

Current UFC star and contender Sean Strickland has been hit with a six-month suspension after he entered the cage at a Tuff-N-Uf event in June. Both Curtis and Strickland have received punishment from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, but Strickland is the only one that has been suspended. During the incident, Strickland entered the cage and threw punches at Hernandez. Sean Strickland has been suspended for 6 months by the NSAC. Israel Adesanya: Middleweight division 'in good hands' with Khamzat Chimaev as UFC champ

Israel Adesanya liked what he saw from the new UFC middleweight champion. On Saturday, the MMA world saw unbeaten boogeyman Khamzat Chimaev achieve what many thought was an inevitability – become UFC champion at 185 pounds. Chimaev dominated, and defeated Dricus Du Plessis by unanimous decision 50-44 across the board in the main event of UFC 319 in Chicago. Adesanya, once the titleholder of the weight class with five title defenses, watched Chimaev's masterful performance and had a lot of positive feedback. "Not what I expected, but I'm glad Khamzat fixed his cardio and improved his cardio to the point where he can go five rounds and just rag doll people," Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. "That's a mess. That's a mess to deal with. "I thought maybe DDP Round 4 will be able to stop the takedowns, and Khamzat will get tired, but he didn't even slow down. He slowed down DDP. He slowed him down, which is very impressive because that's why he finished me Round 4, because I thought, 'OK, I got him now.' But he just finds a way to get his third, fourth wind, but Khamzat made sure he didn't even get his first wind and just smothered him. Khamzat, new middleweight champion. The division is in good hands." Adesanya and Chimaev were at one point discussed by MMA fans as potential opponents, given Adesanya's then-status as champion and Chimaev being an interesting rising contender. However, the two never crossed paths. "The Last Stylebender" currently awaits a booking. He last fought against top contender Nassourdine Imavov in February, when he lost by second-round TKO. Adesanya is 0-3 in his last three fights, a run that saw him lose his belt to Sean Strickland, fail to re-gain the title from Du Plessis, and most recently the loss to Imavov.
