NORQAIN & G-SHOCK's Dope New Drops Are Giving Ice Cream & Ocean Vibes
Looking to level up your wrist game?
From exclusive pieces that scream summer, to dazzling creations that'll give you a summer glow-up – here are two timepiece drops that'll make you the main character.
NORQAIN Freedom 60 Chrono 'Enjoy Life' Edition
NORQAIN's new 'Enjoy Life' version for the Freedom 60 Chrono 40mm is a vibrant outlier in a watch industry that frequently honours tradition and heritage with a respectful silence. It's a mechanical watch that dares to seem buoyant without compromising the engineering that powers it.
The dial itself has the feel of a moving gelato counter. The subdials are anchored by three ice cream-sherbet tones: green, pink, and blue. The entire amusing image is framed by a black tachymeter ring. The eye-catcher, however, is the date window: on five dates per month, the numerals are replaced by an image of a triple-scoop cone – the kind of decadence that instantly takes you back to your early years.
The watch depends on more than just visual innovation. The Swiss-made NORQAIN calibre N19, which has a 62-hour power reserve, manages timekeeping with discipline behind the dial. The 40mm-diameter 316L stainless steel case is water-resistant up to 100 meters and has been carefully polished and brushed. At its core, this is still a tool watch – the only one that has been permitted to have a relatable personality.
The motto, 'Enjoy Life,' is engraved on the sapphire glass of the caseback and is visible when you turn it over. Instead of presenting itself as an aspirational luxury item, it plays into the notion that, like ice cream, time is something to be cherished.
NORQAIN also capitalised on the watch's personality when they first unveiled it. Starting with a formal shopping event and concluding with a pool party, the launch was held in Las Vegas. Instead of trying to dress up the watch to fit a certain event, they let the event fit the piece's fun and laid-back vibe.
This model offers some design reflection in the context of luxury timepieces, where restraint and formality are frequently confused with seriousness. What if happiness was just as essential to design as accuracy? What if innovation and nostalgia were seated at the same table?
The 'Enjoy Life' edition is all about the ordinary rather than pushing the limits of high-end watchmaking. It's for creating fashionable and unforgettable summer days.
In the warmer months, mix it with a light suit for dressier dinner gatherings or use it to round off casual ensembles. However, keep the colours mild in tone.
The Freedom 60 Chrono 40mm Enjoy Life Special Edition retails for RM21,670 a piece. If you'd like to purchase one for yourself, visit NORQAIN's official website.
G-SHOCK's Hidden Glow Vol. 2 Collection
G-SHOCK has released the next chapter in its highly popular watch series, the Hidden Glow Vol. 2: Sea of Stars.
With its inventive dial designs, the six-piece collection, which includes models from the GA-2100, GA-110, GA-700, and DW-6900 series, captures the mystery of bioluminescent tides and is inspired by the summer sea.
Made from resin parts impregnated with a unique phosphorescent substance, each watch has an eye-catching blue phosphorescent dial. When used all over the dial or just in certain places, this substance gives out a soft blue light in the dark that is evocative of plankton glinting in moonlight.
This ethereal light creates an elegant and eye-catching design by fusing G-SHOCK's distinctive ruggedness with an ocean-inspired accent.
The sophisticated white and blue colour scheme of the bio-based resin complements the phosphorescent dials, which depict the coastline's organic change. Each model offers G-SHOCK's well-known performance and durability, including LED lighting for the best vision in low light, while capturing the vibrant mood of coastal summer living.
In addition, the clocks have a 200-meter water resistance, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, five daily alarms, a 12- or 24-hour time format, and a shock-resistant construction.
The Hidden Glow Vol. 2: Sea of Stars collection is now available for purchase via G-SHOCK's website as well as select retailers, with prices ranging from US$110 (~RM466) to US$140 (~RM593).

Local Film Gantung No Longer Screening In GSC After One Weekend, Malaysians Cry 'Wajib Tayang' But What Is It?
Subscribe to our FREE Malaysian cinemas screen many blockbuster movies over weeks, and sometimes months, to offer as many movie-goers as they can a chance to watch the most anticipated films at the time. However, triple-A mega Hollywood films tend to overshadow local films which many Malaysian directors and producers have worked hard on. This is why a certain framework exists to push Malaysian-made movies in cinemas and ensure they get as many eyeballs on them as they could over a specific time period. Recently, a Malaysian movie director took to social media to appeal to local cinemas that is halting her movie's screening in its halls after just one week of runtime. Nadia Mohammad Hatta, better known as Nadia Khan, tweeted to Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) and Tanjung Golden Village (TGV) asking them to not halt the screening of her movie Gantung: Musketeer Code after just one week. Nadia then highlighted that her film should be screened over at least two weeks as it is protected under the ' Skim Wajib Tayang '. Jangan terus tarik tayangan lepas hanya seminggu 😔 — neddo khan (@neddokhan) 'Please listen to the audience for Gantung: Musketeer Code. Many have not had the chance to watch it because they were busy with Hari Raya Haji. 'At least extend it to this weekend. Don't pull it out after only a week,' she said. The outrage began after GSC on Twitter replied to Nadia's post yesterday, saying: 'Hi, today is the last day ya.' Hai, hari ini last day ya. — GSC (@GSCinemas) Based on our checks, GSC has stopped its screening of Gantung: Musketeer Code. However, it is still available at TGV cinemas, at least until 18 June, for now. The Mandatory Screening Scheme So what is Skim Wajib Tayang? As its name suggests, the mandatory screening scheme is a regulatory framework administered by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia, otherwise known as FINAS. Introduced via FINAS regulations in June 2005, it mandates cinemas screen qualified local or joint-venture Malaysian films in their main halls for at least 14 consecutive days. The scheme's main goals are to protect Malaysian-made films from being overshadowed by foreign blockbusters (in terms of timing and number of screens), as well as ensure local films receive prime theatrical exposure – especially during the crucial weeks after their release. This scheme is not automatic. Filmmakers, producers can submit an application six months prior to their movies' cinema release date. This is then subject to approval by Finas. As for Gantung: Musketeer Code, it does fall under Skim Wajib Tayang. Guaranteed 2 weeks? As mentioned, FINAS stipulates a 14-day mandatory screening in cinemas' main halls under this scheme. But here's the twist – if after 4 days, less than 30% of the seats are filled, the movie can be moved to a smaller screen. And if it drops below 15% after just 3 days? The cinema can choose to pull the movie entirely. But, cinemas can also choose to keep screening despite low numbers. We've reached out to GSC to get their take on this movie specifically but have not received a reply at press time. Skim Wajib Tayang is basically the government's way of giving Malaysian films a fighting chance – locking in screen time, pushing for better stories, stronger marketing, and keeping the local film scene buzzing with healthy competition. Numbers paint a picture On FINAS' website, you can take a look at the movies that fall under Skim Wajib Tayang and how much they made at the cinemas. As of 29 May this year, there have been 30 movies screened which were approved under Skim Wajib Tayang for 2025. Of the 30, only one movie did not hit the two-week screening period. Raya Emas: Salako Sacred Treasure was screened for 7 days and collected RM6,776.30 with only 429 audiences. The other 29 movies were screened for at least 14 days with the highest number of days going to Blood Brothers: Bara Naga (updated as of 11 June) at 58 days. Fun fact: it is still screening in some cinemas. The movie has collected RM73,453,172.04 so far. Crowd favourite Ejen Ali The Movie 2 is still going strong at 13 days with a collection of RM39,075,374.79. Share your thoughts with us via TRP's . Man-in-demand Woodkid composes for Death Stranding sequel
Woodkid – who said playing video games was 'an escape' during his youth – said he jumped at the chance of working with legendary Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima. — AFP PARIS: French singer and director Woodkid has composed the music for the hotly awaited Death Stranding 2 video game, with the 42-year-old telling AFP that the songs unfold "almost like origami". The author of hit 2013 debut album The Golden Age , who has previously worked with Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey, has produced dozens of hours of music for the Japanese-made action-adventure title. "The main challenge is creating procedural music – music that evolves with the player, depending on their actions. And yet, still writing pop songs with vocals," Woodkid, whose real name is Yoann Lemoine, told AFP. "You have to unfold the songs almost like origami, turn them into versions that last several hours, which are then condensed and reprogrammed by developers," he explained. A longtime video game enthusiast, Lemoine calls it a "completely different approach" from scoring a film or writing a conventional album. An album of 16 tracks taken from the game is set to be released on Friday, titled Woodkid for Death Stranding 2 . They include a collaboration with American actress Elle Fanning, who appears in the game, and another with Bryce Dessner, guitarist of indie rock band The National. Impressionistic Woodkid – who said playing video games was "an escape" during his youth – said he jumped at the chance of working with legendary Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima. Kojima's work in the 1990s, particularly the original Metal Gear Solid , left a mark on Woodkid. The pair met in 2020 through a mutual friend. Kojima had already used one of Woodkid's tracks in the first Death Stranding , a celebrity-packed adventure game that sees players act as couriers in a post-apocalyptic world. The first one was set in the United States, while the second takes place in disaster-struck Mexico and Australia. As well as a debut from Fanning, the sequel again includes actors Norman Reedus ( The Walking Dead ) and Lea Seydoux ( No Time to Die ) who play the main characters. "We connected quickly, I think because we share common fantasies," Woodkid said of his collaboration with Kojima, which involved several months of immersion in Tokyo. "There's a darkness in us – dreamlike, fanciful, sometimes deeply melancholic – that bonds us." Man in demand Their work was "very impressionistic", Woodkid explained. "We start with fragments: percussion, beats, textures, vocal sketches I might try. He brings scenes and characters he describes to me, and we build everything together like a ping-pong exchange," he added. "Unlike a film, I didn't actually compose much to picture – it's more like thematic background music." His skills as a composer and director have seen him called on by Taylor Swift for her video for Back to December , Lana Del Rey for Blue Jeans and Born To Die , and Katy Perry for Teenage Dream . Woodkid also directed French classical musician Mylene Farmer's most recent album, L'Emprise (2022), co-writing seven tracks. For Death Stranding 2 , he worked with pianist Yvan Cassar, a long-time collaborator of the singer. "I like staying in the shadows. I'm not a star. I believe in the works more than the artists, so I prefer focusing on the things I create," he said. Asked whether he appears in Kojima's game himself, he lets the question hang, but can't help smiling. Death Stranding 2 will be available from June 26. – AFP
