Team Sweden shook the Olympic hockey world this week by unveiling the first six players set to represent them at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy. This initial roster drop, shared by all 12 competing nations, offered fans a unique early glimpse into what could be a gold-worthy lineup.
With each player performing at a high level, the message is clear, team Sweden is aiming high for Olympic gold.
Gabriel Landeskog
's comeback headlines Sweden's Olympic hockey campaign
Gabriel Landeskog's inclusion in Team Sweden's 2026 Olympic lineup is more than a strategic decision, it's a stirring comeback story. After battling through injuries that cast doubt on his future, the Avalanche captain's return marks one of the biggest stories in Olympic hockey news.
His leadership and grit are invaluable for a national team filled with younger stars.
Landeskog brings not only experience but also an emotional edge that could define Sweden's Olympic run. His selection also silences speculation about his fitness, confirming he is ready to contribute at the highest level again.
For fans, Landeskog's name in the lineup is both nostalgic and thrilling, giving the Olympic roster a unique blend of determination and top-tier skill.
William Nylander
and
Victor Hedman
strengthen Sweden's Olympic roster core
The depth of talent in Sweden's Olympic selection is jaw-dropping.
William Nylander's breakout seasons with Toronto have solidified him as an international threat, while Victor Hedman's dominance on the blue line offers a defensive anchor few teams can match.
Rasmus Dahlin's emergence as a two-way force, Adrian Kempe's physical scoring game, and Lucas Raymond's quick-strike offense round out a six-man group that feels more like an NHL All-Star unit than a typical Olympic preview.

If this core group is any indication, Sweden's Olympic strategy is simple: bring the best, aim for gold, and announce it loudly. With more roster spots to be revealed, Sweden's path to the podium already looks paved with power.

No free swimming as NDMC pools need urgent repair

New Delhi: Unlike previous years when New Delhi Municipal Council offered free coaching to students at its three major swimming pools during the summer, the facilities cannot be accessed this year. The three prominent pools, also managed by NDMC, are located at Mandir Marg, Sarojini Nagar and Laxmibai Nagar, and each facility attracts 100 to 150 young students during the summer. According to officials, there was a desperate need for detailed repair work at these sites before opening them for students. "These facilities have not been repaired for a long time. There are broken tiles and damages at various places such as side periphery, stairs, etc. The civil department needs to carry out detailed repair work. Until the work is completed, we have decided not to open the facilities for students this year," said an NDMC official. For years, NDMC ran the facilities for free lessons for the students staying in the areas under its jurisdiction during the summer. "However, a fee of Rs 500 per month is charged from students residing outside the jurisdiction of NDMC. No outsider and no member staff is permitted to utilise the services at these swimming pools," an official said earlier. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play Chess on Your PC, Free Play Classic Chess Install Now Undo The council claimed to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of students during swimming classes, which are conducted in morning and evening shifts. Unlike NDMC, Delhi Development Authority has made swimming pools accessible across various locations in the city to provide relief from the heat. The authority manages a network of 17 sports complexes featuring swimming pools for public use, and it has opened them after obtaining fresh permissions. They include swimming facilities at Saket Sports Complex, Yamuna Sports Complex, Netaji Subhash Sports Complex at Jasola, Dwarka Sports Complex Sector 11, Rohini Sports Complex, Major Dhyan Chand Sports Complex, and Hari Nagar Sports Complex. "These seasonal pools typically remain operational until the end of Sept," said an official. DDA also maintains all-weather swimming pools, such as at Siri Fort Sports Complex, which remain functional for 10 months annually—from Feb 1 to Nov 30. A maximum of 80 participants are allowed in one session at big DDA pools of Olympic size (25x50 metres) and 40 pools of small size (12.5x25 metres). The swimming coaching charges are Rs 1,250 per person per month in summer.

"Only thing I have in my head...": Djokovic intends to defend men's title at LA 2028 Olympic Games

New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): Former World No. 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic said that defending his Olympic title in Los Angeles in 2028 is the 'only thing' that is keeping him motivated in the sport. Great Britain's Andy Murray remains the only player to have defended an Olympic singles title. Serbia's Djokovic would be 41 by the time he can do the same in the LA 2028 Olympic Games. Despite managing his workload with noticeably fewer tournaments in recent seasons, the 24-time Grand Slam champion told football manager Slaven Bilic that he wants to play in his sixth Games, having won singles bronze on his debut at Beijing 2008. 'The only thing that, at this moment, professionally speaking, I have in my vision at this point. It's interesting when we talk about these achievements and the Olympics that stand out and redemption; the only thing that I have in my head that gives me motivation is the Olympics of 2028 in Los Angeles. Playing for the national team and Grand Slams. But not even the Grand Slams, not as much as the Olympics,' Djokovic said in an interview as quoted by The 38-year-old's victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the Paris 2024 final completed his quest to win every major accolade the sport can offer. That includes winning all four Grand Slams, the Davis Cup, the ATP Finals and every Masters event. Tennis at LA 2028 will be hosted at the Tennis Center in Carson, which is currently a USTA high-performance training base. In the recently concluded French Open 2025, Djokovic lost to world number one Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. Sinner defeated three-time French Open winner and 100-time tour-level titlist 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3). (ANI)

Skinner or Pickard? Oilers' Knoblauch still not naming starting goalie for Stanley Cup Final Game 6

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — It's anyone's guess who starts in goal for the Edmonton Oilers when they face elimination in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. Coach Kris Knoblauch did not say Monday whether it would be Stuart Skinner or Calvin Pickard. 'It's who we feel can win us a game,' Knoblauch said after practice. "That's how it's gone in other games, and we'll make that decision.' Skinner was Edmonton's starting goaltender to begin the playoffs, lost the first two games and was replaced by Pickard, who went 6-0 before getting injured. Skinner also started the first four in the final, got pulled twice and for Pickard, who won Game 4 and lost Game 5. 'A strength of our team is that we can go with both guys,' winger Connor Brown said. "They're up for the challenge. I mean, they're both absolute pros. Both have given this their best every time they come in there, and they both work hard, so we're in it as a group.' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins did not practice Monday, though Knoblauch expects the Oilers' longest-tenured player to be in the lineup Tuesday night in Sunrise. That is a constant, even if Nugent-Hopkins is not 100% healthy, though there could be other changes coming. Either Jeff Skinner or Vasily Podkolzin may be ticketed for the press box as a healthy scratch up front, while John Klingberg is a candidate to return on defense. Florida will be making no such changes, barring something unforeseen, in the first chance to clinch back-to-back championships. The same 12 forwards and six defensemen who have been in place since A.J. Greer returned from injury in Game 3 figure to be in the lineup again. 'It's all health based,' coach Paul Maurice said. 'We're a pretty healthy team, fortunately, at this point, and we've got good players." That includes Matthew Tkachuk, who missed the remainder of the regular season after getting injured at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February. After some ups and downs and uncertainty, he's 'feeling the best' he has during this run. 'I thought there was maybe a 50% chance I wouldn't be playing as close to about a week or five days before the playoffs started,' Tkachuk said. 'Very lucky and fortunate that I've got great trainers and doctors, and they all somehow got me healthy enough to play.' The Panthers have five players already bound for the 2026 Olympics in Milan: Tkachuk for the U.S., Sam Reinhart for Canada, Aleksander Barkov for Finland, Nico Sturm for Germany and Uvis Balinskis for Latvia. The 12 teams participating unveiled their preliminary six-man rosters Monday. Sturm and Balinskis have not played in the final, but the Olympic announcements put them in the spotlight. 'Being an Olympian is something that not a lot of athletes can say about their careers," Sturm said. 'It's the best athletes in the world from every sport, and it's definitely something that I've marked on my calendar, something that I want to achieve in my career. It'd be a huge accomplish to be able to play there and, once your career's done, to say you participated in the Olympics, I think that's a huge accomplishment not to be understated.'
