Bengaluru ranks 14 in global startups, fifth in AI and big data
The GSER 2025, published by Startup Genome and released at VivaTech 2025 in Paris, evaluates ecosystems across key parameters, performance, funding, market reach, talent and experience, and knowledge along with a new focus on AI-native capabilities. At VivaTech 2025, Karnataka IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge spoke at a high-level panel discussion on AI disruption and startup ecosystem futures. 'This ranking is not just a number; it reflects the structural resilience and readiness of Karnataka's innovation economy,' Kharge stated.
He detailed Karnataka's multi-pronged strategy; including Innoverse open innovation platform, Beyond Bengaluru regional startup mission, and Nipuna Karnataka, a skilling initiative targeting over a million professionals.
The state is also fostering enterprise-startup collaboration via its growing Global Capability Center (GCC) network and supporting Deep Tech with dedicated funding for AI, biotech and robotics.
Bengaluru now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with global hubs like Paris (rank 12), Philadelphia (13), and Seattle (15), marking a significant shift in global innovation trends and placing Karnataka firmly on the global Deep Tech map.

HUBBALLI: Come August, the only BIS-certified khadi Tricolour manufacturing centre in the country, based in Hubballi, would be bustling with women employees stitching national flags throughout the day. But this year, the unit is wearing a deserted look and the number of workers too has reduced, despite it being the peak season ahead of Independence Day. The Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Sangh of Bengeri in Hubballi, which runs the flag unit, is staring at a 75% depletion in its profits this year. Ahead of Independence Day, the Sangh used to earn around Rs 2.7 crore, but with four days to go for the big day, it has received orders worth only Rs 49 lakh. The Sangh has been staring at losses ever since the central government allowed polyester flags to be flown as part of the 75th year Independence Day. The move immensely helped polyester companies from Gujarat which have captured the market and are making big profits over the last two years. As the central government's also amended the national flag code, many government buildings and institutes too have started flying polyester flags, shunning khadi flags, which are priced higher. Though khadi flags have a longer life, they are losing demand swiftly. ‘Futurise' aims to showcase emerging technology
Bengaluru: Forthe first time, the event will be hosted at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), offering expansive infrastructure, metro connectivity, and a sustainable, world-class venue. Themed Futurise, BTS 2025 aims to showcase technologies shaping the future, with 10 conference tracks covering IT & DeepTech, semiconductors, biotech, AI, defence, space tech, and more. The moment Kharge raised the point, Sasmit Patra who was in the chair, didn't allow him to speak further as his concerns were not about the bills taken up for discussion. The leader of the house JP Nadda strongly objected to the remarks made by Kharge and requested the chair to take it off the record. While the government initiated a discussion on Manipur bills, the Opposition walked out in finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman also criticised the Opposition for voting against the bills related to Manipur. The reference of Opposition members voting against the bill was made after a few Opposition MPs who were present in the House even after the boycott said "no" when the bill was members, however, maintained that they boycotted the House in protest.
