Dalit family thrashed, woman disrobed over cattle row in UP village; six booked
The incident took place Friday morning in Anaich village, under the Oonjh Police Station area, over grazing of cattle. Six people have been booked in the matter.
According to police, the complainant was Deepak Kumar Pasi, a landless Dalit farmer, who cultivates urad (black gram) on a sharecropping basis in a local villager's field.
Deepak, police said, objected to another villager's cattle grazing in his field when he, his wife, Sumitra, his elder brother, and his mother were assaulted.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhimanyu Manglik said, "When Deepak complained about Rajaram Yadav's cattle grazing in his field, Rajaram became enraged. He hurled at Deepak casteist slurs and with the help of others beat him with sticks and iron rods."
According to the complaint, the attackers dragged Sumitra by her hair across the field, beat her, and disrobed her.
Deepak and Sumitra were admitted to a hospital due to the serious injuries, while the four other of his family members were discharged with little treatment.
Based on Deepak's complaint, police have booked Rajaram Yadav, Dilajeet Yadav, Arvind Yadav, Rajendra Yadav, Parvati Devi, and Tara Devi.

Private hostel owner booked for harassing Dalit girl, roommate
Varanasi: A Dalit girl NEET aspirant from Jaunpur district, staying at a private hostel in Durgakund area under Bhelupur police station, was sexually harassed allegedly by the hostel owner. According to reports, he also attempted to target her roommate on Saturday. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bhelupur Gaurav Kaumar said that on receiving complaint from the girl's father, Bhelupur police lodged FIR against the accused hostel owner under sections of BNS, Pocso and SC/ST Act. An investigation into the matter had begun and proper action would be taken based on its outcomes, he added. In his complaint, the girl's father alleged that the hostel owner not only harassed his daughter but also threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone, using caste-based slurs against her. On Friday, he alleged, the hostel owner harassed her classmate too, who somehow pushed him away and ran to her room, locking herself inside. Failing to target her, the hostel owner started harassing his daughter. The girl's father mentioned that the hostel owner's wife also hurled abuses at the daughter and her classmate and threatened to kill them. Bhelupur police said as the case registered in this connection also comprises sections of SC/ST Act, further action would be taken after detailed investigation by the ACP. 4 Maoists with 19L reward surrender in Gariaband
Raipur: Four Maoists including a divisional committee member (DVCM) and those serving as protection team members for a central committee commander, surrendered before Gariaband police in Chhattisgarh on Sunday. Three of the surrendered cadres had joined the outfit as minors and are presently in their twenties. The divisional committee member Deepak alias Bhima Mandavi carried Rs 8 lakh bounty on his head, police said. According to Gariaband SP Nikhil Rakhecha, Bhima had joined the banned outfit at the age of 14 years in 2008 in Sukma district of Bastar division. He was associated with the cultural wing of the organizations, called Chetna Natya Mandli (CNM) that serves as influencing the villagers via entertainment and spreading the Maoist propaganda. He soon became Kistaram area committee commander in 2010 and further grew in ranks from Bastar to Gariaband district. Recently, in April this year, Bhima was promoted as DVCM. He was involved in 20-25 violent incidents in Dhamtari and Gariaband forests. 2 held for misbehaving with women constables
Mangaluru: Ullal police arrested two persons on charges of harassing a woman constable during the Mosarukudike Utsava of Sri Krishna Janmashtami in Thokkottu on Saturday night. The accused are Deepak and Kiran. According to police, a huge crowd had gathered during the Mosarukudike Utsava procession at Olapete. The women constables on duty asked the youths who were dancing to move further. However, the accused allegedly behaved indecently and tried to outrage the modesty of a woman constable.
