Man charged over suspected 'random incident' in which woman allegedly raped
The Irish Mirror has learned that gardai arrested a man after a woman was allegedly raped and sexually assaulted in a park area in Muirhevnamore at around 6pm last Friday.
The alleged injured party is understood not to be known to the arrested man.
A man (49), who has an Irish address and who we cannot legally identify due to the nature of the incident, has subsequently appeared before a sitting of Dundalk District Court in connection with the alleged incident.
Garda Siobhan McCoy of Dundalk Garda station outlined facts of arrest charge and caution before the special court appearance on Bank Holiday Monday.
The man is charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a woman, whereby he's accused of raping her.
The alleged offences are contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act 1990, as amended by Section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act 2001.
He was remanded into custody and is due to appear before another sitting of the court on another date. In a press release issued today gardai referred to the incident as a 'serious assault.'
A Garda spokesperson said: 'Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them.
Any persons, including road users and pedestrians, who were in Muirhevnamore Park, Dundalk at approximately 6pm on Friday evening 1st August, 2025 and who may have footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

‘No evidence of violence' after Irish fashion designer found dead on boat in US
There is no evidence of violence in the death of an Irish fashion designer who was found on a boat at a yacht club on Long Island, New York police have said. A postmortem examination of Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra 'did not show evidence of violence' and her cause of death requires further examination, Suffolk County Police Department said in a statement. Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra was discovered unconscious on the boat at Montauk Yacht Club in the early hours of Tuesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services. Tearful tribute paid to young Irish fashion designer found dead on yacht in USA
The business partner of a young Irish fashion designer found dead on a yacht in the US has posted a heartwarming tribute to her on social media following her death. The founder of fashion label East x East, Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra, was discovered unconscious at midnight onboard a boat docked at the Montauk Yacht Club. People rushed out and made attempts to save her life, but East Hampton Town Police later pronounced her dead at the scene. The 33-year-old, who is originally from Co Carlow but was living in Manhattan, graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) and later completed a masters degree in digital marketing in Smurfit Business School. Dylan Grace, Martha's business partner at design company East x East, wrote a touching tribute to his dear friend on Instagram alongside a number of photos of them, sharing how he was 'truly blessed and grateful' to have had her in his life. Martha moved to New York at the age of 26, where she began working as a sales rep for a fintech start-up working with top-tier hedge funds before launching her East x East brand, a clothing and apparel line that specialises in eyewear, swimwear and resortwear. The details that led to her death remain unknown but are being investigated by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office. While it's unclear exactly how the 33-year-old died, a boater at the scene described the ship in which she was found, named Ripple, as in fact a 'party boat'. Two men arrested after 'large-scale cannabis cultivation factory' dismantled
Two men have been arrested after Gardaí seized cannabis plants worth over €750,000 in a 'large-scale cannabis cultivation factory'. As part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs, Gardaí attached to the Dublin Crime Response Team and Drogheda searched a premises in Louth and found a large-scale cannabis cultivation factory. Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of more than €750,000 were sized. Two men, aged in their 40s, were arrested at the scene and are currently being detained at Garda Stations in the north east of the country under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. The drugs have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. Gardaí said investigations are ongoing. Commenting on the investigation, Assistant Commissioner Cliona Richardson said: "The discovery and dismantling of this sophisticated cannabis cultivation operation will affect the ability of those involved to cause harm in our communities. 'The investigation – led by the Dublin Crime Response Team under Operation Tara and assisted by local Gardaí in Drogheda – demonstrates An Garda Síochána's commitment to collaboratively target drug trafficking networks and related criminal activity occurring in and impacting not only Dublin but other Regions throughout the country.' This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by former Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
