'Zhao Xintong's world title can help snooker's Olympic bid'
China's Zhao Xintong becoming world champion could help snooker's bid to enter the Olympic Games, says the sport's chair.
The 28-year-old became the first Chinese player to win the World Championship in Sheffield on Monday.
Jason Ferguson, chair of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), believes Zhao's success will create opportunities for the sport in Asia as well as worldwide - while aiding its chance of being included at Brisbane 2032.
"Realistically, Australia is a target," Ferguson said.
"We're talking to all the multi-sport bodies. There's a lot of politics involved, but the size of snooker and how important China is to the IOC [International Olympic Committee], someone has to look at this and say 'this is now snooker's time'."
Snooker failed in its attempts to be included at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games.

NRL bad boy Matt Lodge had condemned the 'disgraceful' sideline behaviour of some overzealous parents after one of his own kids recently took part in his first junior rugby league tournament. 'It just shouldn't happen... encourage them so they love the game,' Lodge's lengthy social media post began. 'Nothing should be forced and mistakes are OK. I pulled up a coach and said mate, you can't swear at seven-year-olds like that. 'His response was: 'they are kids from our team.' 'Doesn't that make it worse? Let your kids play with their friends and have fun. 'Please be if it happens to your kid, don't tolerate it.' Lodge - currently part of Manly's extended NRL squad - is working in construction away from footy. The father of four has played for a host of NRL clubs across his career, including the Tigers, Broncos, Warriors and Roosters. Back in October of 2015, Lodge attracted international headlines when he was arrested at gunpoint by New York police following a rampage through a family's apartment. He also reportedly told the victims at the time: 'This is the night that you die.' The prop then spent two weeks in the city's notorious Rikers Island prison and was ordered to pay a reported $1.2million to his victims in compensation. Lodge was then offered a NRL lifeline in 2018 by the Broncos under Wayne Bennett - only to be cut by Kevin Walters when he was appointed head coach. Lodge faced 25 years in jail before a plea deal with prosecutors. New footage has revealed Melbourne captain Max Gawn clashed with his teammate Steven May twice in the final moments of the side's one-point defeat to Collingwood on Monday. The Magpies led by 20 points in the third quarter but fell behind early in the last term, before Dan McStay kicked the final goal of an 11.6 (72) to 10.11 (71) victory at the MCG. Both sides had further chances to score but Gawn's snap at a boundary throw-in narrowly missed and a set shot by Koltyn Tholstrup fell short as the Demons narrowly missed out. Gawn's shanked kick from the back pocket with 30 seconds left fell in the lap of Collingwood's Will Hoskin-Elliott, and the Pies iced the game. Gawn and May were then involved in a heated conversation on the siren, with the captain pushing his teammate away. Channel 7 have shared a new camera angle of the incident that shows the altercation continuing. Footage from a goalpost camera shows May going back again at Gawn seconds later before he is directed away by a teammate. On Tuesday morning, Gawn explained what really happened during the now-viral goalsquare clash, shouldering the blame for the incident. 'I can't confidently tell you what he actually said. I think it says [a bit about] both of us; we were both extremely disappointed in that last 30 seconds,' he told Triple M's Mick in the Morning. 'I thought my reaction was really poor. I had a teammate showing care; his version of care from a long history with Steven May. I know that. Pat Cummins exposes Jeremy Clarkson's wild act at 10am after revealing chat with host on his hit farm TV show
Pat Cummins has revealed details of his lively visit to Jeremy Clarkson's farm where he not only tested out the TV star's new business idea, but also watched him skol a beer at 10 in the monring. Just a few days ahead of the World Test Championship final at Lord's, Clarkson welcomed the Australian cricket captain to his famous Oxfordshire farm, Diddly Squat, to film a segment for the show. The former Top Gear presenter was blunt about his sporting preferences. 'I've never been a fan of cricket,' Clarkson remarked. 'I always had too much hay fever to know what was going on.' Speaking to Nine's Today show, Cummins revealed that Clarkson had another reason to be interested in the sport. 'He grows willow trees, so he's making cricket bats,' said Cummins. 'I think he sees a fortune in the future where he's going to sell these willow trees across to India or Australia, so he talked commercial terms on some of these things rather than cricket.' Cummins played an impromptu game of farmyard cricket where he tested out the bat, before having a round of beers at 10am in the morning. The Aussie skipper even cracked out some of his Mountain Culture pale ales and offered them to Clarkson. 'Loved it,' said Cummins. 'He tried the Mountain Culture Status Quo. Loved it. I don't think he was just being polite, either. It was about 10 o'clock in the morning and he basically skolled it.' Cummins says he was excited to be returning to the home of cricket on Wednesday against South Africa. 'I visited here (Lords) as a 13-year-old and we did the tour as a family,' said Cummins. 'I still remember that every time I come here. 'It's English, it's where cricket started and it does feel that extra little bit special.' He wasn't sure which side would have the home ground advantage, however. 'I feel like any English fans who turn up will be going for South Africa,' he smiled. 'We do have a lot of Aussies here in London who I'm sure will be showing their faces. Who knows?' Later this year, the skipper will return again to England to lead the Aussies in another Ashes campaign.
