Transition must be completed within a fixed timeframe, no room for negligence, says Yogi on school merger
'The Chief Minister underscored the need to implement the school pairing system with a long-term, inclusive vision, highlighting its benefits for students, teachers, and parents through better resource utilization and improved education quality,' reads a statement by the U.P. government. Mr. Adityanath directed authorities that schools with more than 50 students should function as independent institutions to strengthen administrative efficiency, accountability, and academic oversight.
Mr. Adityanath added in cases where school buildings fall vacant due to the pairing system, Bal Vatikas (pre-primary schools) be started in those premises. 'The transition must be completed within a fixed timeframe, leaving no room for delay or negligence,' said the CM, as per the government statement.
The CM further stressed that no child between the ages of six and 14 should be left out of the education system and instructed that School Management Committees (Principals and Village Heads), should take full responsibility. 'Mr. Adityanath said effective implementation of the School Chalo Abhiyan is needed to ensure that every child is enrolled and attending school regularly. To support students, the financial assistance of ₹1,200 for uniforms, shoes, socks, stationery, and study material be transferred directly to the bank accounts of parents of students enrolled in council schools via DBT without delay,' added the official statement.
Uttar Pradesh government initiated a plan to merge schools having enrolment of less than 50 students, with nearby educational facility to make the education system more functional and viable. As part of the consolidation plan, students from these schools will be accommodated in nearby facilities to ensure their continued education.

Additionally, in partnership with Tata Technologies, 150 government-run Industrial Training Institutes have been upgraded with modern technologies to ensure industry-relevant training,' he said. Highlighting Uttar Pradesh's investment-driven growth, Mr. Adityanath said that in the past eight years, improved law and order and investor-friendly policies had led to the implementation of investment proposals worth several lakh crore rupees, creating lakhs of new jobs across sectors. During the event, Mr. Adityanath handed over the 'Youth Icon' award to 15 outstanding youths and distributed appointment letters to 11 candidates. He also flagged off five Skill Chariots to spread awareness about skill development across the State.

'Don't Carry Kanwar': UP School Teacher's Poem Draws Ire Of Hindu Outfits, FIR Filed

A school teacher in Uttar Pradesh has been booked after reciting a poem on 'Kanwar Yatra" during a school assembly that some Hindu groups said hurt religious sentiments. The teacher, Rajneesh Gangwar, who works at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Inter College in Bareilly, faced massive backlash from the Hindu outfits. A video of him reciting his own poem, titled 'Tum Kanwar lene mat jana, gyaan ka deep jalana" (Don't go to fetch the Kanwar, instead light the lamp of knowledge), went viral. The poem includes lines such as, 'Kanwar le jaakar koi SP ya DM nahi bana hai" (No one has become an SP or District Magistrate by carrying Kanwar), and talks about prioritising education over rituals. Once the video gained attention online, several Hindu groups raised objections, saying the poem was disrespectful to Kanwar pilgrims, especially during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. They argued that singing such lines in a school setting at this time was inappropriate, particularly when the state's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has publicly shown support for the yatra. The Kanwar Yatra, which began on July 11 this year during the holy month of Sawan, involves thousands of devotees walking long distances to bring holy water from the Ganga River to offer at Shiva temples. The event is closely watched and managed by state authorities due to the large gatherings. Yogi sets 10% contribution to national economy target by 2026
Lucknow, July 15 (UNI) Describing the state's economic journey as a transition from "possibilities to results," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said this transformation reflected the vision of Viksit Bharat under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stressed that Uttar Pradesh's economic growth is no longer just reflected in statistics, but has become a testament to real, on-ground change. The CM conducted a comprehensive review of UP's economic landscape, development framework, and revenue sources during a high-level meeting held here on Monday late evening. According to the data presented in the meeting, Uttar Pradesh's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) reached Rs 9.6 lakh crore in 2024–25, an impressive 80 per cent increase from 2020-21. During the same period, the state's contribution to the national economy has risen from 8.4 per cent to 8.9 percent. Terming this a significant milestone towards building a self-reliant Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to devise a focused strategy to raise the state's share to 10 per cent by 2026. Highlighting a structural shift in the economy, he noted the growing contribution of the manufacturing and service sectors, while the agriculture sector's share is gradually declining. He described the 'Make in UP' model as the cornerstone of Uttar Pradesh's industrial strategy for the coming decade and directed officials to promote the establishment of new industrial units, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. During the agriculture sector review, it was reported that food grain production is expected to touch 722 lakh metric tonnes in 2024–25, an increase of 100 lakh metric tonnes compared to 2020–21. However, productivity disparities remain across districts. For instance, wheat productivity has reached 46 quintals per hectare in some regions, while in others it lags around 30 quintals. Terming this gap as an imbalance, the Chief Minister instructed that targeted interventions, such as technical support and farmer awareness campaigns, be undertaken to bridge the divide. In the animal husbandry sector, UP leads the nation in milk production, with egg production also showing notable improvement. However, the Chief Minister emphasized that overall output alone is not sufficient, there must be a focused effort to enhance per-animal productivity. He directed officials to regularly analyze data related to breed improvement, feed management, and the dairy industry to ensure sustained progress. Reviewing the manufacturing sector, it was reported that the number of registered factories has surpassed 27,000 in 2024-25. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of equitable industrial growth across districts to generate local employment and boost state revenues. He also called for strengthening the capacity of district industry centres to ensure continuous engagement with industries and to streamline the registration and support systems for new units. A significant rise was also noted in the export of information technology services from the state. In 2024-25, IT exports through the STPI touched Rs 46,800 crore, an increase of 40 per cent compared to 2021-22. The Chief Minister described this as a sector full of opportunities for the youth. Encouraging trends were also observed in service-based industries such as tourism, hospitality, and trade. Particularly post-COVID, the tourism sector has seen a steady rise in footfall. The meeting also reviewed the state's two key revenue streams — GST and excise duty. GST collections in 2024-25 exceeded Rs 1.49 lakh crore, reflecting a 6.6% growth over the previous year. Meanwhile, excise revenue reached Rs 52,574 crore, marking an impressive year-on-year increase of around 15%. Calling these figures "proof of revenue self-reliance," the Chief Minister stressed that this financial growth must underpin the expansion of public services and social welfare schemes. While assessing the road transport sector, the Chief Minister identified it as a 'promising avenue for the future.' He advocated for the identification of new routes to expand private bus services, stating that such a move would improve public transportation while opening up new sources of revenue for the state. He added that it would also create large-scale employment opportunities within the transport sector. The Chief Minister further highlighted the importance of data integrity during the review. He instructed departments to ensure that all presented data is accurate and regularly updated. He called for the development of a clear, time-bound, and outcome-driven roadmap for major sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, services, energy, and human resources, to be monitored in coordination with the Planning Department.
