Inside Matildas stars' super glamorous weddings on either side of the world - as their teammates are split over which ceremony to attend
Some of Aussie soccer's brightest stars were divided for the happiest of reasons as two Matildas held their weddings on opposite sides of the world just days apart recently.
First Ellie Carpenter married her Lyon teammate Daniëlle van de Donk in a breathtaking ceremony in southern France on June 7, then Katrina Gorry tied the knot with Clara Markstedt at Hamilton Island off the Queensland coast on Sunday.
Other Matildas weddings have seen a huge turnout of teammates, like Emily van Egmond's nuptials with Kat Thompson last December, which saw Sam Kerr, her fiancee Kristie Mewis, Steph Catley, Alanna Kennedy, Hayley Raso and Clare Polkinghorne.
But this time around the attendees were split into European and Aussie camps as they celebrated one of the biggest days in their teammates' lives.
Europe-based stars Steph Catley (Arsenal), Hayley Raso (Tottenham), van Egmond (Birmingham City) and Teagan Micah (Liverpool) lapped up the amazing surrounds in France for Carpenter's three-day celebration.
They were joined by their fellow Matildas stars Emily Gielnik and Lydia Williams, who play for Melbourne Victory, and Chloe Logarzo of Western United.
Held at the Château Hermitage de Combas in southern France's Servian region, Carpenter's nuptials were the epitome of luxury and glamour.
'The setting is so lush and green, it's beautiful,' Carpenter told Vogue.
'It's got this unique, elegant vibe but still feels grounded in love and who we are as a couple. Intimate, natural, and full of heart.'
Van de donk's gown was made by leading bridal brand Pronovias, while Carpenter's gown - which featured a veil - was created by Collingwood-based custom dress maker Mia Ateliers, with the soccer star describing it as 'the dress of my dreams'.
And no expense was spared when it came to even the smaller details of the nuptials, with the couple hiring Du Jour Events to plan the ceremony.
The reception featured custom plates, Hueseeka candles, handmade stationery and flowers by Adelaide-based 'botanical artist' Evebud, with Affinity Diamonds also involved.
Guests were treated plenty more than the centrepiece wedding ceremony in the cheâteau's gardens, with the event also taking in a dinner banquet, drinking Moët & Chandon during a celebration on the morning of the nuptials, enjoying a cocktail hour and a recovery party that utilised the property's pool and tennis courts.
Photos on the Matildas stars' socials show them in different outfits as they took in the once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Gorry and Markstedt went for a beach-themed wedding in the Whitsundays, with around 70 people in attendance including Aussie footballers Charli Grant, Michelle Heyman, Ayesha Norrie and Natalie Tathem.
Former teammates Gorry and Markstedt tied the knot in the All Saints Chapel with more than a little help from their daughter Harper.
'When Clara and I were up here in 2022, we joked we'd get married here,' Gorry told New Idea.
'But now it's all come to life… It's incredibly special. Hamilton is a special place for me and the family. It's a part of Australia that I like to go to when I want to get away. It's just absolutely beautiful, and it's in our backyard.'
The pair danced to Swedish singer Victor Leksell's 'Svag' during the evening celebrations, a song that the pair would sing together in the car when they first met.
Their daughter Harper also had some important duties on the day as the couple's flower girl.
The pair went dress shopping together, but hilariously nearly picked the same dress!
'I hate dress shopping, you don't find me in dresses very often,' Gorry said.
'But our dresses are very much 'us' … as soon as I walked into the store, I picked mine out straight away, which was something I never thought would happen.'

Owen Farrell's stunning Saracens return confirmed after French nightmare
Owen Farrell has had his sensational return to Saracens confirmed by the club after spending just one year in Paris with Racing 92. The former England captain put his international career on hold following the 2023 Rugby World Cup to join Racing in the French capital, with the RFU's policy not allowing those playing their rugby outside England to be selected for Steve Borthwick 's side. However, the 33-year-old's French adventure was injury-riddled and he has now struck a deal to leave his Racing contract early, with Saracens agreeing to pay compensation to the Parisian side, and stating that he has signed a two-year deal at the StoneX Stadium. It was thought that Farrell would put pen to paper on a five-year agreement that would initially see him hold a joint playing and coaching role, before moving onto Mark McCall 's staff full-time once he concludes his on-pitch career. However, the official Sarries statement only confirmed a two-year contract for the time being and did not mention a coaching brief. 'Saracens is my home and the opportunity to come back is one that excites me enormously,' said Farrell. 'Having watched from afar this season, it is clear to see that the club has incredible potential, and I can't wait to get back in the mix for the 25/26 season.' Saracens director of rugby McCall was also pleased to welcome the club legend back into the fold, saying: 'Owen has Saracens in his DNA; his competitive spirit is woven into the fabric of this club, and we are delighted he has chosen to come home. He returns to a young group full of potential, players eager to learn, play and push for success. We know he will love being part of where this group, and this club, are headed." Farrell's return to the newly-rebranded Gallagher Prem raises the possibility of the playmaker once again England colours, should he desire to do so. Farrell will be back available to Borthwick as soon as this summer's tour of Argentina and the United States, though he had stepped away from international consideration to prioritise his mental well-being in the months prior to his move to Racing 92. His first stint at Saracens saw him win six Premiership and three European titles, as well as becoming Sarries' all-time top European points scorer and a winner of the European Player of the Year award. He made 256 appearances for the club, as well as 112 for England, and six Test caps for the British and Irish Lions. His return is a considerable coup for the London club after missing out on the play-offs this season, with space opened up in the salary cap by dispensation available after Alex Lozowski 's achilles injury. Alex Goode has retired, leaving Fergus Burke – signed to replace Farrell last summer – and youngster Louie Johnson as the other primary playmaking options within McCall's squad. 'He doesn't have to play 10, he can play other positions as well,' McCall said. 'So for our young talents who are developing, it could be a great thing to have him there. 'It's not just about having talent, it's about being able to think properly on the field. I know Owen's obviously one of the best at that. He and Louie Johnson in particular have a very strong relationship already. They talk every month at least. Owen's so willing to share his knowledge and his experience with younger players. 'We think we're a bit vulnerable at 10, to be honest. We've got quite a lot of 12s and 13s, but we're vulnerable at 10 because Alex Goode's retired and he's played 10 a lot for us. We've got Fergus [Burke], we've got Louie and then we've got no one else.' It is thought that Farrell will be taking a significant pay-cut to return to his boyhood club, where father Andy first forged his own coaching career. The younger Farrell will pass comment on his dad's first game as British and Irish Lions boss next week having joined the Sky Sports team as a pundit for the encounter with Argentina in Dublin as the tourists begin their 10-match itinerary.

He also recently enjoyed a holiday in Fiji with their twin sons Tristan and Sasha Speaking to Hemsworth's personal trainer and business partner, Luke Zocchi, explained that the facility serves as a space for Centr trainers to test new workouts and equipment while also having fun. 'It's definitely next level,' Zocchi said. 'Chris made sure to include the latest and greatest Centr equipment in the gym.' He mentioned that much of the equipment at The Shed -which includes treadmills, cable machines, weight benches, and power racks - is currently unavailable in Australia. 'Some of the equipment isn't available in Australia yet, but will be soon,' Zocchi revealed. 'It's where Chris, the boys, and I can come through for a session, or we can just chill and recover when we need to.

Melbourne's Marvel Stadium has pipped the MCG to be recognised as one of the top-10 stadiums in the world. According to the 2025 Pollstar Mid-Year Top 50 Worldwide Stadium Rankings, the Docklands Stadium sits fifth in the world as one of the highest-grossing stadiums. The 53,343-capacity venue also ranks seventh for the highest number of stadium ticket sales as part of the rankings, surpassing the MCG, SCG, Adelaide Oval and the Suncorp Stadium. The rankings are measured between November 14, 2024, and May 14, 2025, with the venue now rubbing shoulders with some illustrious venues around the world, including California 's SoFi Stadium and Japan's Tokyo Dome, which both ranked inside the top-10. While this is the first time Marvel has been recognised inside Pollstar's top-10 venues. The acknowledgement also comes 12 months after the stadium broke into the 2024 Billboard Boxscore rankings after it was ranked the top venue in the world for its top-grossing concert revenue figures during October. Despite boasting a much bigger capcity, Marvel topped the MCG for ticket sales to be ranked as the fifth highest-grossing stadium in the world Marvel was first opened in 2000 and is currently owned by the AFL. It cost approximately $460million to build and last year underwent a $225m upgrade, which was funded by the Victorian Government. The refurbishment works included the addition of two new video screens situated under the stadium's roof as well as amendments to the stadium's infrastructure, to enhance fan experience. Over the past year, many fans have flocked to the venue to watch both cricket and footy, but the venue has also hosted some massive concerts. Luke Combs recently sold out the venue with two shows in February, with 111,200 fans attending the concert. A month later, US rock band Green Day took to the stage at Marvel for a gig in March, with 60,000 fans in attendance. Coldplay hosted four gigs at Marvel back in November, while the Weeknd and PINK all played last summer and plenty more big events are coming to the stadium to celebrate its 25th anniversary. In October and November, Oasis will play three concerts at the venue as part of their reunion tour, while Metallica and Lady Gaga are also due to play at the venue before the year is out. 'Marvel Stadium is incredibly proud to have been recognised in Pollstar's Mid-Year Top 50 Stadiums worldwide,' AFL general manager of Marvel Stadium Scott Fitzgerald said. 'To be named among the best stadiums on the global stage is a true testament to the investment and innovation that has gone into evolving Marvel Stadium into a world-class, 365-day multi-purpose venue that is delivering unforgettable experiences for fans, artists, and athletes alike.' 'Events like these would not be possible without the support of our world-class partners including Disney, Live Nation, Frontier, Ticketmaster and Delaware North who work tirelessly to attract the best in global entertainment and ensure our fans have amazing guest experiences at our venue. 'Melbourne is a city that lives and breathes sport and live entertainment, and we're proud that Marvel Stadium is continuing to shine on an international stage and creating experiences that rival the world's best.' Marvel sat fifth behind Mexo City's Estadio GNP Seguros, the SoFi Stadium in California, Allianz Parque in Brazil and the Autordromo Hermanos Rodrigues in Mexico for gross sales. It also comes as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham are now set to travel Down Under for a pre-season tour and are due to play at Marvel on June 11.
