France blocks access to Israel arms stands at Paris Air Show

France on Monday blocked access to the stands of five Israeli arms manufacturers at the Paris Air show for displaying 'offensive weapons', according to a French government source.
A black wall blocked off stands run by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Rafael, Uvision, Elbit and Aeronautics for showing 'offensive weapons', including those used in Gaza, which allegedly violated terms made with Israel, said the source.
Rafael, Elbit and IAI produce guided bombs and missiles, while Uvision and Aeronautics produce drones.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the move on Monday as 'outrageous' and called for it to be 'immediately corrected'.
'Israeli companies have signed contracts with the organisers...it's like creating an Israeli ghetto,' he said on French television channel LCI.
The Israeli Ministry of Defence also denounced the decision in a statement, calling it a form of 'segregation' against the Israeli companies.

China cuts ties with Czech president over Petr Pavel's birthday visit to Dalai Lama

Beijing has severed ties with Czech President Petr Pavel following his private visit to congratulate the 14th Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday last month. Advertisement The meeting on July 27 'seriously contravenes the political commitment made by the Czech Republic government to the Chinese government, and harms China's sovereignty and territorial integrity,' said Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian in a statement issued on Tuesday. He said China 'strongly deplores and firmly opposes' the meeting and that Beijing had lodged serious protests with the Czech side. 'In light of the severity of Pavel's provocative action, China [has decided] to cease all engagement with him.' Pavel's spokesman Filip Platos told Czech News Agency (CTK) last month: 'On return from a working visit to Japan, the president took the opportunity to detach himself from the delegation to personally congratulate the Dalai Lama'. Advertisement The meeting marks the first time a sitting Czech president has met the Dalai Lama during his stay in India. Shortly after the meeting, the Chinese embassy in the Czech Republic said it 'resolutely opposed' Pavel's meeting and urged the Czech side to 'abide by its one-China political commitment' and maintain healthy and stable relations.

Pony AI, nearing full-year robotaxi goal, eyes European markets

Pony AI is confident it will meet its 2025 robotaxi vehicle output target and is actively exploring new markets in Europe, even as the industry's commercialisation develops at an uneven pace across different regions. Advertisement Over 200 of Pony AI's Gen-7 Robotaxi vehicles have been rolled out since mass production started two months ago, putting the firm on track to hit its 1,000 vehicle goal by year-end, the company said. That will help it break even on a per-vehicle basis, Chief Executive Officer James Peng said in an interview on Wednesday. The company was founded in 2016 and started operating robotaxis in Guangzhou in 2018. The Guangzhou-headquartered firm's optimism comes as it eyes new markets in Europe. Road testing is being carried out in Luxembourg via mobility service provider Emile Weber, Peng said. Pony AI is also trialling its technology in South Korea, where it has obtained nationwide permits for robotaxi operations. It has a tie-up with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority, and with Uber Technologies to deploy self-driving vehicles in the Middle East. Pony AI reported that its second quarter robotaxi revenue grew 158 per cent to US$1.5 million from the same period in 2024.
