Scarborough Athletic to share ground with Bridlington Town

BBC News27-05-2025
A football club that cannot play at its ground after damage was discovered underneath the pitch will play home games at another club's stadium for the upcoming season.Scarborough Athletic has been seeking a new home after a site survey uncovered serious structural issues with the pitch at the town's Sports Village.Following fears about the future of the next season, an agreement has been approved for the team to play at Bridlington Town's ground 17 miles away (27km).The club confirmed Scarborough Athletic would not be charged for use of the stadium and Scarborough chairman Trevor Bull said he was "talking to several parties about making bus and train services available" for fans.
Mr Bull said the club was working on a financial plan in case they needed to play the full season at their temporary home. He said the club would face a "shortfall" from missing out on matchday revenue streams including food and drink sales, hospitality packages, shop sales and an expected drop in attendance.Mr Bull praised supporters for being "resilient" during the situation. North Yorkshire Council has said the pitch at Scarborough Sports Village could cost more than £3m to repair.
The club's artificial 3G pitch was due to be replaced after the final home game of the season on 21 April, in time for the start of the new season in August. The ground is owned by the council and in April, Jo Ireland, the authority's assistant director for culture, leisure and libraries, said: "The works required before the pitch can be resurfaced are considerably more extensive and complex."
There is no confirmed scheduled date for repair work to start but a club spokesperson said they were in constant talks with the council with the aim of getting work under way.At Bridlington Town, the ground will require extra work to ensure it is "step two compliant" in accordance with FA Guidelines for stadium regulations. Mr Bull confirmed a plan was in place and improvements were expected to be complete by the end of July.

Car Deal of the Day: Bag a desirable plug-in hybrid BMW X3 M Sport for less than £380 a month

Great ride, handling and in-car technology Up to 54 miles electric range £378.31 per month on a three-year lease There's a huge number of mid-size SUVs out there on today's market, but very few can challenge a BMW X3 for driving experience or desirability. The looks may not appeal to everyone, but when a plug-in hybrid model in sporty M Sport trim can be leased for under £380 a month, most will be only too happy to squint a bit. This BMW X3 lease deal is from First Vehicle Leasing via the Auto Express Buy A Car service, and runs for three years. You'll have to find a £4,890 initial payment to set the ball rolling, before shelling out £378 a month. There's a 5,000-mile annual limit on this deal, and extending to a more realistic 8,000 miles takes the price to £408 per month. Go for a 10,000 limit and it's £428. Advertisement - Article continues below This is no ordinary X3, though. It's the xDrive 30e plug-in hybrid with petrol and electric power combining for a 295bhp output. The official WLTP combined electric range is 54 miles, so it will be perfectly possible for drivers with easy access to charging to travel on electric power most of the time. That equates to very low running costs. The car comes in BMW's appealing M Sport trim, which means 19-inch alloy wheels, Alcantara and brushed aluminium interior trim, firmer M Sport suspension, an M Sport steering wheel and black headlining. There's also gloss black trim on the exterior. That's on top of basic X3 features such as the latest BMW infotainment system – which we've been very impressed by on our tests – climate control, electric seats and a full suite of electronic driver aids. It all adds up to a truly desirable package that is tremendous value. NFL fans declare 'football is BACK' after hilarious sideline moment between Nick Sirianni and Kevin Stefanski

NFL fans had a laugh after Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni got into some lighthearted antics in a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday. With the Eagles up 13-9 with two seconds before the half, the Browns decided to trot out kicker Andre Szmyt to try and make it a one-point game. Szmyt lined up and went through his paces to prepare for the kick - only for Sirianni to call timeout to 'ice the kicker'. Despite the fact that preseason games are essentially meaningless endeavors, Sirianni injected some humor with his move. Cameras cut to him and saw him grinning across the field to Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. Stefanski was seen shaking his head at his counterpart - while Sirianni continued to lob jokes to him. Szmyt did eventually knock through a kick to make it 13-12 at the end of the first half. Meanwhile, fans were left in stitches while declaring that football season had officially begun. 'so glad football is back,' wrote one user on X, formerly Twitter. 'Sirianni making the most out of the preseason by working on in-season strategy. Gotta love it! This is what I love about the preseason,' wrote Broncos radio host Nick Ferguson. The Browns were able to move to 2-0 on the preseason after beating Philly 22-13. Sirianni and his Eagles are coming off a Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs - ending their opponent's hopes of a historic 'threepeat'. They will now hope to join the Chiefs and the New England Patriots by becoming another team to win back-to-back titles in the 21st century. Philadelphia opens their season - and the NFL's season - at home against the Dallas Cowboys.

Rasmus Hojlund left out of Man Utd squad for Arsenal game amid exit speculation

Rasmus Hojlund was omitted from the squad for Manchester United's Premier League opener against Arsenal as speculation swirls about his future. The 22-year-old striker has failed to justify his price tag since joining Atalanta two years ago for £64million (€74 million) plus a potential £8m in add-ons. Advertisement Hojlund has been linked with a return to Serie A this summer and was an unused substitute in United's final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina last weekend. 🥁 Here it is… Our first #PL starting line-up of 2025/26! 🔴👊 — Manchester United (@ManUtd) August 17, 2025 New signing Benjamin Sesko was presented before that game and was included on the bench against the Gunners at Old Trafford, where the Denmark international was conspicuous by his absence. Ruben Amorim also left Andre Onana out of Sunday's squad, although the Cameroon international has only recently returned to training after a hamstring issue that disrupted his pre-season. Altay Bayindir lined up between the sticks for United, who handed debuts to summer acquisitions Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
