The New York Rangers have quite a few players set to play at the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship, but there are two notable players who will be absent.
It was widely speculated that we could see both Alexis Lafrenière and K'Andre Miller representing their respective countries at the World Championship.

They were asked about the possibility of participating in this tournament and while not specifically committing, Lafrenière and Miller seemed to be intrigued by the opportunity.
However, with the tournament just two days away, there are no signs of Lafrenière and Miller playing as it appears as if they won't be joining Mika Zibanejad, Brett Berard, Will Cuylle, Juuso Parssinen, and Dylan Garand.
It's unclear if either Lafrenière and Miller are dealing with any injuries, but given that they are both young and still developing, this could have been a good opportunity for them to grow and showcase their skills on an international level.
They also had what many considered to be down years for their standards and with a longer offseason, playing at the World Championship was an opportunity that likely would have been worthwhile for Lafrenière and Miller.

Gabe Craig named first-team All American

WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, or NCBWA, announced Baylor senior right-handed pitcher Gabe Craig as a First Team All-American on Wednesday, marking the first time a Baylor Bear received the recognition since Kyle Hill in 2019. Craig is the 11th different Bear in program history to earn first-team praise for a total of 28 times. Alongside Hill, Craig is now one of only two First Team All-America relief pitchers in program history. Additionally, Luke Boyd (2021), Zane Carlson (2000) and Troy Montemayor (2017) are the only other relievers to have earned All-America status, regardless of team distinction, in Baylor history. Statistically one of the most dominant relievers in the country, Craig finished the 2025 season with a 3-0 record and earned 10 saves in 32 innings of work. He struck out 51 batters and walked just three, holding opponents to a .124 batting average. He led the nation with a microscopic 0.56 ERA, a 0.50 WHIP and a 17:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Craig also ranked second nationally in H/9 (3.66), third in BB/9 (0.84) and owned the fifth-best K/9 (14.34) among Division I relievers. The NCBWA previously named Craig a finalist for the Stopper of the Year Award in addition to being named one of five finalists for the 2025 College Baseball Foundation National Pitcher of the Year Award. He also picked up All-Big 12 First Team accolades and ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region Second Team praise earlier this summer. This is Craig's second All-America honor in as many days. Tyrese Haliburton teases dad for ‘out of pocket' fashion faux pas at NBA Finals

John Haliburton was 'out of pocket' on Wednesday, but it wasn't for an interaction with an opposing player. The father of Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton caught some flak from his son over his wardrobe choice for Game 3 of the NBA Finals, which culminated in a 116-107 win for Indiana over the Thunder. A clip circulated on social media of the younger Haliburton — who scored 22 points with 10 assists and nine rebounds — going up to his dad during pregame warmups and joking with him about the pants he had on. 'You're out of pocket for them jeans,' Tyrese said as he dapped up his dad. 'You out of pocket for them jeans.' 3 Tyrese Haliburton made fun of his dad before NBA Finals Game 3 on June 11, 2025. CJ Fogler/X John appeared to smile and patted his son on the chest as Tyrese walked back onto the court. It wasn't immediately clear what made John's wardrobe choice so egregious that his son took a playful jab at him, but the elder Haliburton seemed to be all smiles on Wednesday night as he returned to his courtside seat for the first time since he got into a confrontation with Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo in Game 5 of the first round. His seat was directly behind an ESPN cameraman behind one of the baskets. 3 Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers reacts during the fourth quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game Three of the 2025 NBA Finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 11, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Getty Images John had not attended games in person following the first round incident until Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Knicks, when he sat in a suit far from the courtside view he usually had. Tyrese poked fun at the situation following that game — a 130-121 win for Indiana — when discussing his dad's return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. 'I know people were saying, 'Free Pops' and Pops is free, but he was not in jail,' he told reporters at the time. 'He has a very beautiful home, very pretty to watch basketball. So he was just fine. I just wanted to win.' 3 John Haliburton attends Game 3 of the 2025 NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Kyle Terada-Imagn Images John has become a bit of a folk hero for Pacers fans, with one local TV reporter posting to social media on Wednesday that she believed she found 'John Haliburton's biggest fan, and he just so happens to be from Taiwan!' With the win, the Pacers took a 2-1 series lead in the Finals.

Red Sox pitcher Hunter Dobbins defends discrepancies about his father playing for Yankees

Associated Press BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox rookie Hunter Dobbins made some headlines prior to his first career start against the Yankees last week when he said he'd rather retire than pitch for New York. Now he's explaining why the claims he made about his father once playing in the minors for Boston's longtime rival aren't the intentional fabrication a New York Post report says they were. Hunter Dobbins said Wednesday he was made aware of the Post story, but said there is nothing nefarious about the connections he said his father had to the Yankees. 'My feelings and all that are based on my personal experiences and nothing to do with growing up or family,' Dobbins said. 'The whole backstory is stuff I heard growing up and seen pictures of from my dad. At the end of my day it's just from my dad and how I kind of grew my love for the game. But at the end of the day I don't go and fact-check my dad or anything like that.' In a June 7 Boston Herald feature on Dobbins that ran the day before he allowed three runs and four hits in five innings of an 11-7 win over the Yankees, he said that his father, Lance Dobbins, had been drafted twice by the Yankees before being traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The story also makes reference to Dobbins saying his father was friends with Andy Pettitte, who played 15 major league seasons with New York. But the Post report found no evidence of any of that, citing multiple official databases and the Yankees' own records that couldn't substantiate Lance Dobbins having played with the organization. Lance Dobbins' own profile on doesn't list any Yankees affiliation. The 2025 Red Sox Media Guide does mention him on Hunter Dobbins' biography page, but says only that Lance "pitched for 2 seasons (1996-97) in the Diamondbacks organization.' Dobbins, who is scheduled to pitch again against the Yankees on Saturday at Fenway Park, said he has since spoken to his father 'a little, but not really' about the Post story that first noted the discrepancies. 'My whole focus is on Saturday and getting ready to face the Yankees," Hunter Dobbins said. "This is my first time in the big leagues facing a team for a second time, let alone back-to-back. So that's where my focus is 100%. I imagine we'll talk in the future or something like that. But it's been a bigger deal than it ever really needed to be. But at the end of the day I really just need to get ready to go for Saturday' The 25-year-old is 3-1 with a 4.20 ERA this season. He said he isn't surprised the story has gotten the attention it has in recent days. 'This is a great rivalry," Dobbins said. "Two cities that have a long history together. Anything that's kind of in the news that goes with both of them, that's going to turn into a story. It adds to the game and we just have to embrace it and keep rolling.' ___ More AP baseball: recommended
