"This was very difficult": Former West Indies T20I captain Nicholas Pooran retires from international cricket at 29
New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): Former West Indies T20I captain Nicholas Pooran surprised the world on Tuesday by announcing his retirement from international cricket at the age of 29. The 29-year-old, who recently dazzled in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Lucknow Super Giants with explosive performances, described retiring from the international circuit as 'difficult'. 'To the cricket public, after much thought and reflection, I've decided to announce my retirement from international cricket. This game we love has given and will continue to give so much - joy, purpose, unforgettable memories, and a chance to represent the people of the West Indies.' Pooran's decision comes days after he requested Cricket West Indies not to consider him for their ongoing white-ball tour of England. With over eight months left before the T20 World Cup 2026 kicks off in India and Sri Lanka, Pooran's decision serves as a massive setback for the 2016 winners. Since bursting onto the international scene in 2016, Pooran featured in 106 T20Is and 61 ODIs, garnering more than 4,258 runs across both formats. He mustered up 2,275 in the shortest format of cricket, averaging 26.14 at 136.39. While in the 50-over cricket, he tallied 1,983 runs at 39.66 while maintaining a strike rate of 99.15, laced with three centuries and 11 fifties. 'To the fans - thank you for your unwavering love. You lifted me in the tough moments and celebrated the good ones with unmatched passion. To my family, friends, and teammates - thank you for walking this journey with me. Your belief and support carried me through it all,' he said. Pooran had his last dance with the Men in Maroon during their encounter against Bangladesh at Kingstown. Bangladesh ousted the Caribbean giants with a comprehensive 80-run victory. 'Though this international chapter of my career closes, my love for West Indies Cricket will never fade. I wish the team and the region nothing but success and strength for the road ahead. With all my heart, Nicky P,' he concluded. (ANI)

Churros, cool breeze and warm sun: Arshdeep Singh happy to be back in 2nd home Kent
Arshdeep Singh was happy to be back at his second home, Kent, as India get ready for the series against England, starting from June 20. Arshdeep got the call up to the Indian Test team for the first time for the five-match series, and many expect him to make his debut during the tour. The left-arm pacer spent some time in Kent playing in the county championship to improve his skills with the red-ball. Arshdeep was now back to his second home. In a video released by the BCCI, Arshdeep talked about Kent and how he enjoyed the peaceful nature of the place and enjoying some hot chocolate and Churros during his time in the county. At first, you get that 'homely' feeling, that yes, I've spent two months here before, so it feels great. I'm really looking forward to creating many more memories here. It's a small place, very peaceful. Not many people around. If you need peace of mind, this is the best place—because there's always a cool breeze blowing, a soft warmth from the sun, and when you sip hot chocolate in that setting, it's pure bliss. And if you have a sweet tooth, make sure to have some churros with it," said Arshdeep. Speaking about the preparations for the Test series, Arshdeep said his motivation was to get a rhythm with the red-ball after being part of limited overs cricket for a long time. "As for today's training session, my only motivation was to get a feel for the rhythm—how the body feels, how the red ball is coming out of the hand—because all the players have been playing with the white ball for quite a while. So I really enjoyed it.""Going forward, as we keep progressing step by step, the intensity will keep increasing, and we'll keep making it more and more difficult for the batters to face the ball. It was fun bowling to the batters. They looked quite compact, and there was a competitive spirit—even though we were just working on rhythm, they were fully competing. So that made it even more fun. We had to grind properly and try to get them out with a solid plan. Sai has joined the team for the first time, and he looked very compact too. The skipper looked in good touch. I'll try my best to keep improving and get them out more often going ahead," said Arshdeep. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Team India (@indiancricketteam)'When your attack includes Bumrah, comparison doesn't exist'advertisementArshdeep also commented on working with Jasprit Bumrah and said that comparison goes out of the window when the star pacer is part of the attack. The left-arm pacer said that the aim is to work together and help improve each other's skills. "Whenever I hold the ball, I always feel that I am the best. But everyone knows—when you're in an attack that includes a player named Jasprit Bumrah, then the word "comparison" doesn't even exist.""So, the focus is on how we can improve each other's game, each other's skill sets—and how we can help the team. That's where my focus lies," said Arshdeep. Must Watch

Made a scapegoat: Suspended Bengaluru cop alleges in plea to tribunal
Suspended Bengaluru Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash has alleged that he is being 'made a scapegoat' in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case and termed the Karnataka government's suspension order against him 'arbitrary' and 'premature'.In a petition filed before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), accessed by India Today, Vikash contends that the disciplinary action was taken without an enquiry or an opportunity to be officer, in his petition, said that the government order itself was 'eloquently silent' on how the tragedy can be attributed to him, while noting that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) were responsible for impulsively inviting crowds without tickets or passes. 'It begs belief as to how the applicant herein can be made a scapegoat when the government order itself highlights that the entire issue arose due to the callous and impulsive invitation of the RCB and KSCA,' the petition stated. 'That any event of the scale as the celebrations envisaged requires planning and the very minimum time to plan.'Vikash is among the several senior police officials suspended by the Karnataka government after the deadly stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 in which 11 died and over 50 others were plea also pointed out that there was barely 12 hours between RCB lifting the IPL trophy and the celebrations, leaving no time for the police to make adequate questioned how he could be blamed when there was 'hardly 12 hours time' for planning such a large-scale public further argues that the June 5 suspension order was issued without considering alternative disciplinary steps, such as a transfer or departmental inquiry, and before the government-ordered magisterial probe could conclude. The petition describes the action as a 'knee-jerk reaction to public pressure', stating that the order is a 'cyclostyled and mechanical' decision lacking independent evaluation of the officer's role.'The applicant has an unblemished service record,' the petition claims, adding that the move has caused 'irreparable harm' to his career and reputation. It also cites past instances where officers were not suspended despite similar tragedies, arguing that the present action is discriminatory and legally unsustainable. IN THIS STORY#Bengaluru
