Police RAID YG Entertainment over copyright infringement allegations against G-Dragon and Yang Hyun Suk; Fans react

Time of India2 days ago
Seoul police reportedly raided YG Entertainment as part of an ongoing investigation into a copyright infringement allegation, linked to K-pop star G-Dragon and the company's founder, Yang Hyun Suk.
According to reports on allkpop, a statement from Mapo Police Station revealed that the police swung into action over a complaint filed in November 2024 by an unidentified composer. The complainant alleges that YG Entertainment reproduced his song without permission and distributed it as part of one of G-Dragon's albums.
Investigations Begin
Investigators have reportedly conducted two 'search-and-seizure' operations since the case began, with at least one raid targeting YG Entertainment's offices.
The police declined to provide any further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
A report by TV Report later claimed that the track was altered and reworked into 'My Age Is 13'. The modified version was allegedly included in a medley—My Age Is 13 + Storm + Hip Hop Gentlemen + G-Dragon—on G-Dragon's 2010 live album 'Shine a Light'.
Fans React
The development has sparked a wave of criticism from fans of the rapper.
Some even questioned the timing and scale of the raids, while others argued that such measures would not have been approved without the police first finding 'substantial grounds' to conduct the operations. Many were also surprised by the fact that the alleged infringement dates back more than a decade, leading to speculation about why the matter is resurfacing now.
'They must have had a reason to do it, so why overreact? lol' commented a fan.
Another said in a post translated from Korean, 'When they do something this extreme in a case like this, there's usually a reason behind it.'
Another claimed, 'Feels like the prosecution just wants to keep making noise about GD~ Since the drug thing didn't work out, maybe they got an order to dig into anything they can find.'
G-Dragon's Past Controversy
The case follows recent scrutiny of G-Dragon, who was previously investigated over drug-related allegations before being cleared.
For now, authorities have stated that the investigation remains active.

NewJeans and ADOR FAIL to reach settlement in contract dispute, new mediation date allotted

Will the NewJeans members and HYBE ever be on good terms again? The question continues to float in the minds of their fans, onlookers, the internet, and everyone who's ever heard of the dispute. Starting out as a contract dispute, the issue has grown much bigger, but at the core of it, the K-pop stars are still trying to get out of their ties to the media giant. In a court-arranged mediation, which was set for August 14, Minji and Danielle attended the exchange as the team's representatives alongside their legal team. According to Chosun Ilbo, after about 80 minutes of talk, the two sides were unable to reach a middle ground. A second settlement date has been set for September 11. NewJeans and ADOR continue to be at odds Unlike their previous appearances, where the five members were present, offering their thoughts to the world, the two refrained from sharing their stance during the meeting today, and only smiled at the cameras, saying they're sorry [about not being able to give any more statements]. The group has maintained its demand to leave ADOR and thereby HYBE over claims of mismanagement, while the label has continued to deny any such instances and stuck to wanting an amicable way forward for the team. Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein have accused the team behind BELIFT LAB of plagiarising their concepts, dance and style for the debut of ILLIT. However, their biggest concern continues to be the removal of Min Hee Jin, who participated in the production of the team, from the CEO position. The singers want her reinstated and share that her removal means major harm to their identity. They have cited a complete breakdown of trust between the two parties as their reason for filing the lawsuit and demanding their exit from the agency. HYBE, in turn, has alleged that Min Hee Jin wanted to usurp the current management and take control of ADOR, resulting in a separate dispute between the two. If they are unable to reach an outside court settlement on September 12, the final verdict will be announced on October 30, deciding whether the girls' contract stands valid.

State authorities are expected to implement govt's order banning PoP idols with all seriousness: Karnataka High Court

The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday said that it expects the State government and its authorities, with all seriousness, implement the government's order of banning manufacture, distribution, and sale of idols made from Plaster of Paris (PoP) in accordance with the law. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C.M. Joshi passed the order while disposing of a petition filed by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), which had sought a direction to the Urban Development Department (UDD) and other authorities of the State to implement the notification issued on September 15, 2023, banning PoP idols. While declining to issue any specific direction on the issue of manufacture, distribution, sale, etc., of PoP idols, the bench said that it is not inclined to pass any order as the government notification issued in 2023 in this regard is in force and it is for the authorities to implement their own orders. The KSPCB, in its petition, had said that despite the ban order, there are manufactures of PoP idols, and one in one such instance a PoP idol manufacturing unit, situated at Kumbalgodu near Kengeri, was sealed. However, despite this action, surreptitiously PoP idols in the sealed unit were being removed for sale. However, the government counsel pointed out to the bench that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered in connection with the manufacture of PoP idols at Kumbalgodu unit and further actions are underway.
