Following nearly two decades penning cars for Jaguar, automotive designer Ian Callum now keeps himself busy with various projects through his eponymous firm, Callum.
Along with imagining the future of mobility through various forward-looking concepts, the outfit has also homologated historic Bond cars for road use, sculpted Dakar-competing 4x4s and redefined British classics like the Mini Cooper.
In other words, were anyone else to tease the Vanquish shooting brake that you see before you, it'd be easily dismissible as vaporware.
However, Callum has a history of turning dreams into reality — meaning what is undoubtedly one of the world's most beautiful station wagons will likely be hitting the road before too long.
Answering the call
Ian Callum took to Instagram to announce that the firm would be accepting commissions for a shooting brake version of the Aston Martin Vanquish. Even though the image is of a pre-production concept, the possibility of it hitting the road is very real.
After all, with enough money to fund a bespoke vehicle, who wouldn't want to see an Aston Martin Vanquish realized as a raked-out hatch? From tip to tail, the station wagon is stunning.
Moreover, the announcement follows a previous Vanquish teaser that Ian Callum posted on his personal social media over two years ago. Though the designer later deleted the post, the responses to the concept were reportedly positive at the time.
Not that it should come as a surprise. Zagato broke the internet with its Vanquish shooting brake back in 2019, so there's clear support (and a standing precedent for) otherworldly Aston Martin wagon designs.
Vanquish variations
And here's the thing: a shooting brake wouldn't be the first time that Ian Callum has taken his talents to the Vanquish. The designer actually penned the first-generation for Aston Martin while working at TWR Design.
As such, the firm's Vanquish 25 offering represents Callum's desire to revisit the car and improve on his original design. The fact that he continues to tweak the body and imagine it as a shooting brake — first as a concept and subsequently as a public offering — shows that he's still not gotten his fix.
Of course, if you look through the Callum portfolio, you'll see there are more than a few interesting concepts just waiting for the right well-heeled buyer to fund them into a reality. In the event that someone puts their name down for an Aston shooting brake, hopefully, they'll also want a Callum-designed E-Type.
By inquiry only
As of this writing, Callum hasn't unveiled pricing or specifications for its Vanquish shooting brake. However, the firm is willing to speak with interested parties who are serious about seeing their Aston Martin turned into a one-off wagon.
Given that a Vanquish 25 is said to cost some £450,000 (sans donor vehicle), the shooting brake is unlikely to come cheap. If you'd like to learn more or contact Callum for a commission, you can head to the firm's website.

Celebrating 100 Years of the Rolls-Royce Phantom

Rolls-Royce is a pinnacle brand. And Phantom is the stately marque's pinnacle nameplate. This has been the case since 1925, making Phantom the longest-running nameplate in autodom (although there were notable disruptions, so, unlike the Chevrolet Suburban, it lacks continuous production for the entire time period). Still, in the disposable world of planned obsolescence perfected by carmakers, 100 years is a long time for any model to persevere. And it's even more notable when one considers the fact that the majority of all Phantoms ever produced are still in operation. This is, not surprisingly, part of Phantom's mission, which, according to Rolls' chief executive, Chris Brownridge, is 'to be the most magnificent, desirable and above all, effortless motor car in the world–the very best of the best.' To achieve this over a century, successive generations of Phantoms have—unlike other staid, enduring nameplates like the Porsche 911—constantly evolved and embraced their era. To celebrate the model's centenary, at this year's Monterey Car Week, Rolls will assemble an outstanding Phantom from each generation. And the six vintage Phantoms eligible to participate in the week's signature event, the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, will compete in a special 100 Years of Phantom class on the show field. Below, you can discover what makes each generation of Phantom so special and what distinguishes each of the cars that will take place in this historic gathering.

Leasing sector reports enhanced relationships with OEM partners: BVRLA

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has released the findings from its annual Member OEM Relationship survey, indicating an enhancement in the relationship between leasing companies and their OEM [original equipment manufacturer] counterparts. The latest data from 2025 shows a slight rise in contentment levels, with the average satisfaction score reaching 7.1 out of a possible 10, up from the 6.6 recorded in 2024. The introduction of the Net Promoter Score (NPS) as a new metric has provided a more nuanced view of the industry's dynamics. The overall NPS stood at +3.7 across the 27 manufacturers assessed, with the leading five brands each garnering scores of 40 and above. However, the report also pointed out areas where relationships have deteriorated since 2024. Notably, leasing companies reported the 'biggest decline' in their satisfaction with access to vehicle data and the availability of connected services. BMW maintained its position as the best-performing OEM overall. The survey reached out to 64 BVRLA members and received responses from 44% of them, representing a diverse range of leasing operations. Participants were asked to limit their feedback to a maximum of 20 manufacturers, focusing on those with which they had substantial dealings. Speaking to Fleet News, BVRLA head of research and insight Phil Garthside said: 'Some OEMs are clearly setting the standard while others have an opportunity to improve by adopting best practices. 'The new entrants are working hard to get on leasing company radars, and it's paying off. They're not just adding variety to choice lists; they're competing on service and ease of doing business.' In January, the BVRLA reported a 1.4% growth in its leasing fleet for 2024. This increase has been largely driven by heightened interest in electric vehicles provided by companies. This growth has helped mitigate the impact of a decline in demand for personal lease agreements and vans, as detailed in the BVRLA's Leasing Outlook report. How Tesla's Cybertruck could keep UK homes running for days

A Tesla could soon be used to keep the lights on in your home, or even to sell power back to the grid. Tesla cars could soon function as an effective "battery" to supply British homes with electricity as the electric vehicle (EV) maker's new energy venture also allows homeowners to sell surplus energy back to the grid. Elon Musk's company is plotting to enter the British energy market and supply households in the coming months. Tesla has sought approval for an energy licence and reportedly hopes to start supplying energy to homes and businesses in England, Scotland and Wales by next year. Tesla has been involved in the UK energy market since 2020, when it was granted a licence to be an electricity generator. How could a Tesla power a home? In the US, the group has been an electricity supplier for the past three years in Texas, where it supplies electricity via Tesla Electric. The company's "Powershare" technology means households that own one of Tesla Cybertruck models can essentially use their EV as a power source for the home. The process is referred to as V2X – vehicle-to-everything. Because of the sheer size of batteries in EVs, homeowners can effectively "store" electricity in their Tesla. When a power outage is detected, Powershare automatically provides back-up electricity for the home. The Cybertruck, for example, is capable of delivering 11.5 kilowatts of continuous power and is able to meet the energy needs of an average home for three days. The vehicle also has multiple 120V and 240V outlets, which can be used to power devices needed for, say, camping trips. Or even to turn the car into a remote workplace. Paired with other technology – such as home batteries - V2X could allow homes more control over how they buy and use electricity. Households in Texas have also been able to lower their electricity bills by powering a vehicle at night when electricity is cheap, and then using it to run home appliances during the day. What other functions might Tesla bring to the UK? Tesla Electric offers cheap, renewable energy, managed through a mobile app and is built particularly for people who own a Tesla Powerwall home battery or a Tesla vehicle. With Powerwall, consumers are encouraged to buy electricity at night and sell electricity back to the grid when prices are high – this means that the grid is more stable, and customers with Powerwalls can profit. Tesla currently offers Powerwall via energy provider Octopus in the UK. With multiple homes selling electricity to the grid, it works as a virtual power plant, which helps to support the grid at peak times. Tesla says: 'A virtual power plant (VPP) is a network of distributed energy sources such as homes with solar and battery systems, working together as a single power plant. The combined energy of these sources is used to support the electrical grid.' Tesla also sells solar panels, which can be used to top up Powerwall batteries. Declining sales across Europe The news comes amid a backdrop of waning demand for Tesla's electric vehicles across Europe in recent months. New car registrations in Britain and Germany more than halved in July from a year earlier. Some have argued Musk's political support for Donald Trump has impacted sales. However, it is also the case that competition has also increased. Sales of EVs made by China's BYD, for example, rose nearly five-fold in Germany and over four-fold in Britain in July. Nonetheless, industry figures showed an almost 60% plunge in the number of new Tesla registrations in the UK in July, compared with a year earlier. In further bad news for Musk, on 1 August a jury in Florida found Tesla liable to pay $243m (£180m) to victims of a 2019 fatal crash of an autopilot-equipped Model S. Jurors in the Miami federal court awarded the estate of Naibel Benavides Leon, as well as her former boyfriend Dillon Angulo, $129m in compensatory damages plus $200m in punitive damages, according to a verdict sheet. Tesla has said it will appeal the decision, which could encourage more legal action against the company.
