Hans Niemann jokes about buying a castle as he detoxes in nature after Freestyle Chess high in Las Vegas
In a new video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Niemann, who finished second in the recently concluded Freestyle Chess event at Las Vegas, was seen relaxing on the countryside, detoxing from the constant hectic schedule and jokingly said that he had bought a castle.
'Hello everyone. Welcome to my new castle. After my victory in Las Vegas, I wanted to make a new acquisition. This is where I'll be doing most of my training. And uh perhaps I'll welcome some of my fellow chess players to enjoy my new purchase,' he said in the video.
In the video he also talked about getting to playing classical chess. He said that he had played 261 classical games in 2021, then 180 in 2022. Then the cheating scandal happened.
He said since October last year, he played in just one classical chess event, Aeroflot Open in Russia.
He will be playing at Spanish league now as he looks to get back into classical chess mode as he looks to get in shape for big events like FIDE World Cup in India and the Grand Swiss tournament
'Recap: Las Vegas. Obviously my performance in Las Vegas was a surprise to fully everyone but myself. I immersed myself into freestyle and probably haven't opened Chessbase in a while. So hopefully when I play my first classical tournaments in a while, the Spanish League, starting from August 8th, I'll be able to reacclimatize to the speed or the lack of speed in classical. I'll be playing the Spanish league. It's a seven games all classical. And then after that, there's obviously the Grand Swiss from September 3rd to 15th in Uzbekistan. And then after that we have the next freestyle tournament which is the second to last slam of the tour and then after that the US championship and then after the US championship we have the world cup from the world cup you have the final in Cape Town. After the final in Cape Town there's a global chess league so I am just in nature detoxing from life uh preparing for the all the big tournaments that lie ahead,' Niemann said.
'As you guys know, my last classical tournament if you disregard the Aeroflot Open last March was the US championship in October. So that means from from now, you know we're in August between October, I played one classical tournament which you know as some of you may remember, I played 261 games in a year. So it's quite weird going from that form but looking forward to play a lot of classical chess and focusing on that and trying to make it to the Candidates. So I'll continue documenting the journey and um thank you guys for watching and I'll see you soon, he added.

Chemirocha explore the depths of instrumental rock in their debut album
Instrumental rock albums are so rare in the Indian independent music landscape that when such an album comes along once in a while, there is behind it stories of perseverance and self-doubt. Chemirocha, who has just released their debut album Short Lived Fantasies of a Two Winged Dream, an instrumental album of progressive rock with a tinge of pop punk, also has such a story to share. Banker Arjun and sound designer Nitin began working on the album close to a decade ago. Both were part of the active independent rock music scene in Kerala in the mid-2000s, with Arjun being the guitarist for bands like Soulburn, while Nitin is the former bassist of metal band Chaos. When they got together in Kochi in 2016, they hit upon the idea of working on an album. 'Both of us have similar music tastes. One of the ideas was to blend modern progressive rock with the pop-punk and similar genres of the 2000s, all of which evoked a sense of nostalgia in us. We began making these songs on acoustic guitars with no idea how it would turn out. It took several jamming sessions over the years to take shape, during which we almost abandoned the whole project. Later, guitarist Fredy Rocazaurus of the Old School Studio helped us at a time when we did not have much of an idea about recording songs. Some of the demo tracks we mixed initially were sent to drummer Nishanth Hagjer, who joined with us to make the entire album, which was produced by Adam Bentley,' says Nithin. The eight tracks in the album do not follow the typical verse-chorus-verse structure, but progresses like a fluid lucid dream with the riffs repeating only rarely. As free flowing as the music is, they also appear to be the reactions of the musicians to specific happenings in their life, although both of them prefer to leave the task of interpretation to the listeners. 'Although we did consider having a vocalist initially, later we thought this is the way to go. One of the strengths of instrumental music is that it is open to interpretation in so many different ways in different countries and cultures,' says Arjun. In fact, the name of the band is also the result of such an interpretation. It was believed to be how the Kipsigis tribe in Kenya used to pronounce the name of legendary country musician Jimmie Rodgers. A track recorded by a musicologist in the 1950s of the tribe singing 'Chemirocha' is now on YouTube. Just like that story, the duo's 'two-winged dream' can evoke myriad interpretations and reactions, each unlike the other. But, unlike the album title, their music is not going to be a 'short-lived fantasy'.

Chennai Grandmasters Day 4: Erigaisi Passes Up Chance To Capitalise On Keymer Draw
Last Updated: Nihal Sarin stunned Arjun Erigaisi to pick up his first win of the day as Vincent Keymer held on to his lead despite being held to a draw by Anish Giri. Arjun Erigaisi failed to take advantage of Vincen Keymer's draw against Anish Giri as the Indian went down to compatriot Nihal Sarin, who picked up his first win of the Chess Grandmasters 2025 on Day 4 of the event on Sunday. Erigaisi, who began the day half a point behind the German leader, had the chance to go on level with Keymer in the Masters category; however, Sarin rained on Erigaisi's party as the youngster pulled off the biggest surprise of the event yet as he handed Erigaisi his first defeat of the series. As a result, Keymer still stands alone on top of the roster with three and a half points to his name after the conclusion of four games in the nine-match round robin event, while Arjun stands at two and a half. Robson took his tally to two points, as did Giri, Awonder and Gujrathi. Karthikeyan's win took him on level with points while Pranav took his tally to a point and a half, mimicking Sarin's count. The all-American clash between Liang Awoder and Ray Robson finished up with the overseas players splitting the points two ways, as did the all-Indian pairing of Pranav V and Vidit Gujrathi. Karthikeyan Murali also registered a win over Dutchman Jorden Van Foreest to take his tally to two points in twice as many fixtures. Abhimanyu Purnik's winning run in the Challengers section continued as he got the beating of Vaishali, as Harika Dronavalli's disappointing run continued as she slumped to her third defeat in four games, as Leon Luke Mendoca outwitted the seasoned campaigner. Iniyan Pa beat Aryan Chopra, while Diptayan Ghosh pulled out all the stops to edge out Harshavardhan GB. The only challenger game that ended in a draw was the fixture between Adhiban B and Pranesh M, as the duo shared the spoils.
