Wigan Warrior moved above Hull KR to the top of the Super League table with a pulsating 36-28 victory over Leigh Leopards at the Brick Community Stadium.The last time these two met in the opening round of fixtures in February, all manner of records were broken in the lowest-scoring Super League game ever and a golden point 1-0 win for Leigh.Here they served up the polar opposite with a 12-try thriller on a night when the scoreboard rarely stopped turning over.Victory was enough to edge Matty Peet's side to the top of the table shading the points difference count over Hull KR, who have a chance to reclaim top spot against Huddersfield Giants on Saturday.More to follows.

Tottenham AGREE deal to make Thomas Frank new manager as Spurs negotiate compensation with Brentford
THOMAS FRANK has agreed to become the new Tottenham manager. SunSport understands that following talks over the weekend, the Brentford boss is set to replace Ange Postecoglou imminently. 4 4 Frank, 51, wants to make the switch across London which will end his near-seven year spell with the Bees. The only matter left to discuss is the compensation package that chairman Daniel Levy must pay to G-Tech stadium chiefs. Spurs brutally sacked Postecoglou on Friday despite the Aussie ending their 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League last month. And Levy is moving quickly to appoint the Dane, who guided Brentford to a 10th place Premier League finish this season. Fulham manager Marco Silva and Bournemouth 's Andoni Iraola have been in the running but Frank is expected to become the fourth permanent Tottenham boss in the last four years. Frank joined Brentford in 2018 and after promotion to the top-flight less than three years later, he has made them an established Prem club. The Dane already wants to bring Bryan Mbuemo, 25, with him to North London with Spurs trying to hijack Manchester United's proposed deal for the Cameroonian winger. Although that could cost Levy up to £70million with a possible £10m compensation package for Frank, plus £60m for Mbuemo's services. That would test Totteham's financial power, especially as Mbuemo is thought to be demanding around £250,000 per-week in wages, which would make him the club's highest-paid player. But Spurs' victory over United in Bilbao does mean they can offer him Champions League football. MANCHESTER United may have had one of their worst seasons — but they topped the league for shirt sales at airports. More fans bought Red Devils jerseys than those from the likes of Man City and Liverpool during the Prem season, figures show. 1 Liverpool may have clinched the title but among shoppers at JD Sports outlets at London Stansted and East Midlands, as well as, unsurprisingly, Manchester, their tops were popular enough only for fourth place. United's local rivals Man City ranked second, with England shirts third. Retro also appears to be making a revival, with 1990s England shirts in the top 20. While the Red Devils tops of Bruno Fernandes and Co took top spot overall, there were regional variations. Arsenal kit was the best-seller at Stansted and the Gunners appeared in the top five across all three airports, owned by Manchester Airport Group. Prem strugglers Tottenham were only eighth at Stansted, their nearest airport. They were the fourth-placed London team, also behind Chelsea and West Ham, and were even beaten by Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan across all airports. At East Midlands, the England shirt was No1. MAG communications director Adam Jupp said: 'Airports are always places where people love to show their football allegiances — whether that's fans travelling to fixtures at home or abroad, or international visitors coming to watch world famous teams here in the UK. 'Despite a dismal season, Man United's appeal, across the UK and with inbound tourists, appears to be as strong as ever.'

Denbigh hockey player 'in limbo' after head struck by ball
"I understand there is an element of risk in hockey, but surely a brain injury must trigger some help?"Claerwen Render, 42, loved sports but her life changed when she was hit on the forehead by a hockey ball five years mother-of-three has suffered daily migraines and fatigue since and has seen her income halve after giving up her role as a member of a secondary school's senior leadership after being refused an insurance payout through her sport's governing body, she has been left questioning if affiliation payments are worth Cymru said it had developed their approach to head injuries but that more needed to happen to explain the limitations of insurance cover. Mrs Render was playing for Clwb Hoci Rhuthun in Denbighshire in November 2019 when she was caught on the temple by a ball struck by an opposing badly, she was taken by ambulance to the nearest A&E the next few months she tried to return to the classroom as a maths teacher, but struggled to cope."I'm not getting half my old life back. I'm just in limbo, in pain," said Mrs Render."I can't do anything. It really affects my sleep. I've taken time off work but no amount of rest gets rid of my symptoms. It's debilitating."I can't do normal things like before. I can't enjoy going to the kids' activities. If I stay I suffer, or I'll go to work in more pain and I have to go to bed." Nine months after the incident, Mrs Render, from Denbigh, made an insurance claim through her Hoci Cymru membership but said her application did not trigger any now works four mornings a week having been diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome."Why have I paid 15 years of affiliation and insurance? It was for something like this," said Mrs Render."I understand there is an element of risk, but surely a brain injury must trigger something? Are we just paying into a bottomless pit?"I'm just disappointed that I'm not compensated for loss of earnings, the future of my kids, everything."One sports lawyer said few players were fully aware of the level of cover they have for head injuries."No-one signs up to play these sports to get permanent and progressive brain damage and a very high number of sports men and women, we believe, have that," said Richard Boardman, from law firm Rylands Garth. "It is critical that all grassroots players know about the risks involved in collision sports, and whether they are covered for brain injuries," Mr Boardman Morris from brain injury charity Headway, stressed the health and social benefits of sports, including brain health, but also said players needed to be aware of how insurance cover works."It is something that governing bodies and insurers need to be transparent with and really convey to people what circumstances they wouldn't be covered."So people can take out further insurance if they need to, protection against loss of income for example," he said. Hoci Cymru's concussion policy was first introduced in 2021. Its chief executive, Paul Whapham, said they could not comment on individual insurance cases but acknowledged the "very real impact" Mrs Render's injury had and took her concerns "seriously"."This situation highlights the importance of clear communication and transparency around insurance coverage," said Mr added Hoci Cymru's approach to head injuries had developed but there was "always more" to be done so players "understand the extent and limitations of cover provided through affiliation"."We are committed to working with our insurers, our clubs and partners to ensure that policies are clear, fair and supportive of our players' wellbeing," Mr Whapham said.
