Doctor who helped supply Matthew Perry ketamine will plead guilty to drug charges
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A doctor charged with giving Matthew Perry ketamine in the months leading up to the 'Friends' star's overdose death has agreed to plead guilty, authorities said Monday.
Dr. Salvador Plascencia has agreed to plead guilty to four counts of distribution of ketamine, federal prosecutors said in a statement. They said the plea carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, and Plascencia is expected to enter the plea in the coming weeks.
Plascencia and a woman accused of being a ketamine dealer had been the primary targets of the prosecution, after three other defendants, including another doctor, agreed to plead guilty in exchange for their cooperation.
Plascencia had been scheduled to start trial in August.
Perry died on Oct. 28, 2023 at age 54.

Accompanying videos and photos of him with the Biden men, the 'Reacher' star wrote, 'So our 'Reacher' set got in the way of these legends.' He went on to have nothing but good things to say about the former U.S. president and his son. 'They couldn't have been more lovely. Kind, joyful, gracious and present,' Ritchson captioned his Instagram post. 'We chatted briefly about simple stuff, like string theory and quantum entanglement. Then Joe beat me at arm wrestling. All in a day's work.' According to an eyewitness who spoke to CBS Philadelphia Monday, Biden just so happened to be in the same area in Philadelphia at the same time as the 'Reacher' cast and crew. The eyewitness said that the 'Reacher' team was filming a police chase when several black SUVs suddenly pulled up. 'Out walked these men, that I thought they were actors, but then the entire cast and crew started clapping and cheering,' the eyewitness said of Biden's 'Reacher' set entrance. Former President Biden's surprising, real-life 'Reacher' crossover moment came less than a month after it was announced that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. In late May, CNN anchor Jake Tapper also published 'Original Sin,' his book detailing the behind-the-scenes efforts that were made to cover up Biden's cognitive decline while he was still in office. Ritchson's comments, meanwhile, do not mark the first time the 'Reacher' star has dipped his toes into political waters. In February, Ritchson also blasted Matt Gaetz, the former Florida congressman who has been accused of child sex trafficking and statutory rape and who withdrew his nomination to serve as U.S. attorney general during Donald Trump's second presidential term. Gaetz was once a classmate of Ritchson's, and the actor called him a 'motherf—ker' and told GQ of his former schoolmate, 'We are adversaries.' Amazon's Prime Video has not yet announced a premiere date for 'Reacher' Season 4. The series' third season concluded its eight-episode run in late March. Buncombe County jail officer arrested, charged with DWI, fired by sheriff
ASHEVILLE - A Buncombe County detention officer was fired from the sheriff's office after police arrested her June 13 for allegedly driving while impaired. Tauqullia King, 39, a detention officer with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office, was charged with driving while impaired and possession of an open container, according to court records. On June 13, King drove on State Street in West Asheville while impaired and with an open alcoholic beverage in the car's passenger area, according to her arrest warrant. She was released later that morning from the Buncombe County Detention Facility — her former place of employment — on a written promise to appear in court, records show. The sheriff's office was made aware of the charges the same day she was arrested, according to a June 17 news release from the agency. After reviewing what happened, the sheriff's office "has chosen to no longer allow" King to serve as a detention officer, the release said. Due to personnel laws, the release said the sheriff's office is unable to "discuss this any further." The Citizen Times requested her hire date and the public version of her personnel file from the sheriff's office. Man arrested in connection with Norfolk woman's shooting death in Newport News
Newport News Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a homicide that occurred in May. Benjamin Forrest Carter, 29, of Newport News, was arrested on Saturday and charged with first-degree murder, as well as several weapons offenses, in the death of Karen Yvonne Watkins, according to police. He was earlier identified as a suspect in the case. Karen Yvonne Watkins, 37, of Norfolk, was shot in the southeast section of Newport News, in the area of 27th Street and Wickham Avenue. Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area at about 11:21 p.m. Sunday. That system is designed to pick up audio signals of shots fired and determine where they are coming from. Officers found Watkins with at least one gunshot wound when they arrived. She died after being taken to a local hospital.
