Animal lovers demand withdrawal of SC order on relocating stray dogs
Holding placards reading 'Independence Day, for Whom?", the demonstrators included activists, volunteers, NCP (SP) spokesperson Anish Gawande, activist Rai Manvi, and Ambika Shukla, founder of People for Animals and sister of former Union minister and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi.
Stating that there are divisions everywhere over religion, language, and now even between 'animal lovers and animal haters", Shukla urged people to understand 'how cruel" the top court order is.
Another protester, Vidhya Pandey, said her family had been feeding stray dogs for over a decade.
'We were scratched once while playing with them and took rabies injections, but never faced any health issues. There are no shelter homes in Delhi. Where will they take these dogs," she asked.
The protesters raised slogans such as 'Save our dogs" and 'Delhi government, roll back the order", and sang the song 'Hum Honge Kamyaab", displaying posters of dogs alongside images of Lord Shiva.
On Monday, the Supreme Court directed the Delhi government and the civic bodies in Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad to remove all stray dogs from the streets and place them in shelters.
The bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan observed that there was an 'extremely grim" situation caused by dog bites leading to rabies, especially among children. PTI SHB ARI

Demography Mission rollout amid raging debate over SIR
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that his government would soon set up a high-powered demography mission to deal with unlawful entry of foreign nationals in the country. The announcement comes in the wake of the Opposition's allegations that the BJP is 'misusing' the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar to target immigrants, especially those belonging to the minority community. In his Independence Day speech delivered from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Modi noted that India's forefathers made the supreme sacrifice to win freedom for the countrymen, and it is the duty of its citizens not to accept such influx of illegal foreign nationals. 'Today I want to alert the country about a concern, a challenge. Under a well-thought-out conspiracy, the demography of the country is being changed. Seeds of a new crisis are being sown. These 'ghuspaithiya' (intruders) are snatching the livelihood of the youth of my country, these 'ghuspaithiya' are targeting the sisters and daughters of my country and this will not be tolerated. Rahul's dereliction of protocol The decision of the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi to absent himself from the nation's Independence Day celebration at the Red Fort is not merely a dereliction of protocol but also of symbolism. In the theatre of democracy, moments such as these transcend partisanship; they are occasions when we set aside our ideological cudgels to affirm a shared national identity. The absence sends an unfortunate semaphore: that political schism can supersede patriotic solidarity. One need not be in concord with the government to stand in concert with the Republic. Rahul Gandhi did not diminish the government but the gravitas of the Opposition's own constitutional role. Independence Day is a day when the tricolour should eclipse the party flag. Mohit Rawal, Ujjain Modi erred by praising RSS I endorse the criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation on I- Day in which he praised the RSS on its 100th year. No one has a clue about who has left the carts. These are also causing worry to the locals as they have remained unclaimed for a long time. This is causing inconvenience to nearby bank customers, hospital patients and others, who park their vehicles here. It is also a posing threat to incriminating activities.
