Regina Hall joins Will Ferrell, Zac Efron in Nicholas Stoller's next project

Khaleej Times23-03-2025

Actress Regina Hall is set to star with Will Ferrell and Zac Efron in an untitled comedy film from Amazon MGM Studios.
Nicholas Stoller is helming the project based on a script he wrote himself, which was previously named Judgment Day. This film brings together the director and Ferrell once again, following their work on You're Cordially Invited, which premiered on Prime Video earlier this year and also features Reese Witherspoon.
The new film centers on a young convict (Efron) who gets out of prison and takes an unscripted TV courtroom hostage, as he is convinced that the judge (Ferrell) delivered a ruling that destroyed his life. Details regarding Hall's role are being kept under wraps, said The Hollywood Reporter.
Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alex Brown of Gloria Sanchez Productions and Stoller of Stoller Global Solutions will serve as producers.
Hall will be seen in Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and in Searchlight Pictures' original rock opera O'Dessa. She is also known for roles in the Best Man, Think Like a Man and Scary Movie franchises.
She won the New York Film Critics Circle award for best actress for Andrew Bujalski's 2018 feature Support the Girls, making her the first Black actress to receive the honour.
Stoller is known for helming such films as Bros, Neighbors and its sequel, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He also co-created the Apple TV+ series Platonic, which stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne and has been picked up for a second season.

Palestinian filmmakers Nasser brothers win Cannes ‘Best Director' award

The film is an international co-production between France, Palestine, Germany, Portugal, Qatar and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Palestinian filmmakers Tarzan and Arab Nasser have clinched the Best Director award in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival for their latest work, Once Upon a Time in Gaza. The film had its world premiere at the festival to thunderous applause, captivating both audiences and critics with its blend of comedy and drama. The Nasser brothers, who have long been prominent voices in Palestinian cinema, expressed deep gratitude for the recognition and the international support they received throughout the film's journey. This latest win adds to their growing legacy at Cannes, where their short Condom Lead competed in the Main Competition and their debut feature Dégradé premiered in Critics' Week. Their second feature, Gaza Mon Amour, previously premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and was Palestine's official submission to the 2021 Academy Awards. Critics have responded enthusiastically to Once Upon a Time in Gaza, praising its artistry and relevance. Clotilde Chinnici of Loud and Clear Reviews called it 'necessary and remarkable,' highlighting its powerful political undertones and stunning visuals. Jonathan Romney of Screen Daily described it as 'taut' and 'succinct,' predicting the film would garner significant attention after its Cannes debut. Jordan Mintzer of The Hollywood Reporter noted its emotional depth, calling it 'small-scale yet broad in its implications,' particularly in the context of ongoing events in Gaza. Set against the backdrop of the besieged enclave, the film follows Yahya, a young student who befriends Osama, a kind-hearted restaurant owner. Together, they begin selling drugs while delivering falafel, only to encounter a corrupt and egotistical police officer. The story provides a deeply human portrait of life in Gaza, blending humor and harsh reality in a way that resonates far beyond its setting. Once Upon a Time in Gaza is an international co-production between France, Palestine, Germany and Portugal, with additional support from Qatar and Jordan. The cast includes Nader Abd Alhay—known for Farah on Netflix—Ramzi Maqdisi (Ghost Hunting) and Majd Eid (Holy Spider), with cinematography by Christophe Graillot and editing by Sophie Reine. The screenplay was co-written by the Nasser brothers alongside Amer Nasser and Marie Legrand. It was produced by Rani Massalha and Marie Legrand of Les Films du Tambour and Muriel Merlin of Lyly Productions, with a broad base of co-producers from around the globe including Rise Studios, Made in Palestine Project, Red Balloon Film, Riva Filmproduktion, and Ukbar Filmes, among others. Distribution is handled by MAD Distribution for the Arab world, The Party Film Sales for international markets, and Dulac Distribution for France. The project also benefited from the backing of major cultural institutions, including Aide aux Cinémas du Monde – CNC, Eurimages, the Doha Film Institute, and the Royal Film Commission's Jordan Film Fund.

Cannes Film Festival 2025: Nicole Kidman wakes up at 3 am for this hobby

Nicole Kidman recently shared a personal part of her creative process while speaking at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The 57-year-old actor was in France last week, for a conversation with Variety 's Angelique Jackson before receiving the prestigious Women in Motion award. During the chat, Kidman said she often wakes up in the middle of the night to write. "I do it at 3 am, writing sessions. I wake up and I'll write something, be it a dream or something circulating in my head and my life and my heart at that time," she was quoted as saying by The Hollywood Reporter. "I think 2 and 3 am is a very, very ripe time for things to happen because you're in that slightly removed state from reality, but your your dreams and your psyche are very, very there and very present," she said. Even though she writes regularly, Kidman said she does not have any plans to co-write a project right now. But she added, "I always say no and turn around and change my mind." Kidman chose an all-black outfit for the conversation, including low-rise jeans and a fitted leather jacket. Later, she changed into a custom red lace Balenciaga gown for the award ceremony. The Oscar-winning actor did not have a film showing at Cannes this year. She was last seen in the Prime Video movie Holland and recently returned to her role in Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu. Up next, she will be seen alongside Sandra Bullock in Practical Magic 2, which is set to release in theaters on September 18, 2026.
