Polyphia have teased a 'heavy' new album featuring System Of A Down singer Serj Tankian and Babymetal.
Guitarist Tim Henson offers a glimpse of what the Plano, Texas four-piece are cooking up to Guitar World, saying that where latest album Remember That You Will Die explored multiple genres, their next effort will zero in on metal.
'It's heavy,' he says. 'That's exciting for us, and I think last year was really eye-opening for us in terms of how we should start composing for the live performance.
'Playing a nylon-string to 80,000 people is a little like… when you think of a nylon-string, you think of a dude in a coffee shop, right? So, it's a little disconnect there. We're excited to really hone that in and really make the music bigger for that kind of audience now.'
Henson adds that there will be plenty of eight-string guitar. 'We're just making new guitars that don't exist for the sole purpose of writing something really, really cool with it, so that if you want to learn it, you're gonna have no choice but to buy that guitar!'
Moving on to guest spots, he continues: 'We have one with Serj from System Of A Down and we just finished a second Babymetal collab – that's for their record, though, and we're working on one to send them for our record. So hopefully we'll make that one come to fruition.'
Polyphia collaborated with Babymetal over the summer, joining the J-metal icons for a performance of their song Brand New Day at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo in June.
As for Tankian, he's a noted Polyphia fan. He told The Jesea Lee Show last summer that a friend introduced him to the quartet's music and that he found them 'really interesting'.
Polyphia are no strangers to star collaborations. Remember That You Will Die had songs featuring Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno and superstar guitarist Steve Vai, among others.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day' releases on-set footage and everything else to know about the upcoming sequel

We're less than a year away from the return of Tom Holland's Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and as filming gets underway in the wall-crawler's hometown of — checks notes — Glasgow, Scotland, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have begun to release a ton of information about the fourth entry in the series. So here's a rundown of everything out there about Spider-Man: Brand New Day. More from Gold Derby 'There were places I had to go that I'd never gone before': Chloë Sevigny on bold career choices, polarizing characters, and 'Monsters' Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Denée Benton, and more 'The Gilded Age' instant Emmy predictions as Season 3 ends Brand New what? Breaking with the naming convention of including the word "Home" in the title, the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie takes its name from a divisive 2008 comic book storyline, which saw Peter's marriage to Mary Jane Watson erased from the timeline — among other retcons. But since the events of No Way Home already futzed with the memory of this universe's MJ, there's some of that title's DNA baked into the film's status quo from the jump. Who is in it? Brand New Day will see the return of Holland in his fourth standalone movie and seventh MCU film overall. Also returning are Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Joining the cast is the current on-screen Punisher, Jon Bernthal, his costar from The Bear Liza Colón-Zayas, and Sadie Sink in a mystery role that has already fueled many hair-color-related fan theories. Following the release of the teaser, The Hollywood Reporter shared that Mark Ruffalo has joined to cast, bringing the Incredible Hulk into the fold. Also appearing will be Better Call Saul's Michael Mando, who first showed up in Spider-Man: Homecoming as the Scorpion. Who's directing? After successfully helming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Destin Daniel Cretton was all set to take on the next Avengers film: The Kang Dynasty. And if you've been paying any attention at all to Marvel news or celebrity legal headlines, you know what happened to that. So with the Anthony and Joe Russo returning to tackle that film's new incarnation, Avengers: Doomsday, Cretton has moved over to Brand New Day, and, according to Holland, the director is bringing with him a more tactile approach to filmmaking after COVID kept No Way Home largely confined to soundstages. "Now, we're really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we're starting in Glasgow and we're gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we're putting together," Holland told Flip Your Wig. "So it's gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It's been such a long time since I've done it, it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we're putting together." What footage has been released so far? To mark the anniversary of Spider-Man's first appearance in Amazing Fantasy No. 15, Sony dropped a teaser-y clip featuring some fleeting, close-up looks at what was presumably Spidey's brand new suit for Brand New Day. The most notable detail is the raised black webbing on the red section of the costume, which is very reminiscent of the suit worn by Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi's trilogy. Holland then shared this more complete look at the suit, which closely resembles the homemade ensemble Spidey wears at the end of No Way Home. And as location shooting in Glasgow started, Sony put out an official look at filming on a set piece, which saw Holland as Spidey, riding atop a moving military vehicle. Also, some fans were allowed on set, and the actor took time for some photo ops. When does it come out? Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently slated to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. Watch pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter, aged 10, cosplaying Axl Rose to cover Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Regardless of how fanatical and undiluted your love of rock and metal is, you cannot possibly be unaware of the existence of pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter. A former Disney TV star, the 26-year-old singer's 2024's album Short n' Sweet, topped the national charts in no fewer than 18 countries, and included three UK number one singles: her upcoming seventh album, Man's Best Friend, is due on August 29, has already yielded one UK/US chart-topper in the form of single Manchild. Basically, she's kinda a big deal. But before international superstardom beckoned, Carpenter, like almost every 'overnight success' in the music industry, worked for years honing her craft. And as part of her musical education, she was schooled in classic rock - Queen, The Beatles, Rush, Guns N' Roses, Ozzy Osbourne and more - by her father David. "The Trees is the longest song I've ever heard," the singer joked to Rolling Stone earlier this year about Rush's classic single from 1978's Hemispheres album. "I heard it my whole childhood." Remarkably, there's no shortage of visual evidence of Carpenter's early years in existence online. Want to see her perform The Beatles' Come Together, back in 2009? Here you go. Wonder what she sounded like, aged 12, channelling her inner Prince Of Darkness? Wonder no more. Ah yes, you cry, but I bet she wouldn't have dared try to emulate Axl Rose's distinctive vocals, by covering a Guns N' Roses classic? But that's where you're wrong, friend. Behold, Sabrina Carpenter, aged 10, and her cover of Sweet Child O' Mine. If, by chance, hearing this has made you wonder what other unusual or unheralded covers of this Gn'R classic exist out there on the World Wide Web, here are 10 of the most interesting covers of Sweet Child... , ranging across the musical spectrum from jazz to house, ska to goth, electro to metalcore.
