Polyphia have teased a 'heavy' new album featuring System Of A Down singer Serj Tankian and Babymetal.
Guitarist Tim Henson offers a glimpse of what the Plano, Texas four-piece are cooking up to Guitar World, saying that where latest album Remember That You Will Die explored multiple genres, their next effort will zero in on metal.
'It's heavy,' he says. 'That's exciting for us, and I think last year was really eye-opening for us in terms of how we should start composing for the live performance.
'Playing a nylon-string to 80,000 people is a little like… when you think of a nylon-string, you think of a dude in a coffee shop, right? So, it's a little disconnect there. We're excited to really hone that in and really make the music bigger for that kind of audience now.'
Henson adds that there will be plenty of eight-string guitar. 'We're just making new guitars that don't exist for the sole purpose of writing something really, really cool with it, so that if you want to learn it, you're gonna have no choice but to buy that guitar!'
Moving on to guest spots, he continues: 'We have one with Serj from System Of A Down and we just finished a second Babymetal collab – that's for their record, though, and we're working on one to send them for our record. So hopefully we'll make that one come to fruition.'
Polyphia collaborated with Babymetal over the summer, joining the J-metal icons for a performance of their song Brand New Day at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo in June.
As for Tankian, he's a noted Polyphia fan. He told The Jesea Lee Show last summer that a friend introduced him to the quartet's music and that he found them 'really interesting'.
Polyphia are no strangers to star collaborations. Remember That You Will Die had songs featuring Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno and superstar guitarist Steve Vai, among others.

BTS Stars Released From South Korean Military Service

Two members of the international K-pop sensation BTS were discharged from South Korea's military after fulfilling their mandatory service, setting the stage for a 2025 comeback after a several-year hiatus. RM and V were both released separately from their service on Tuesday in South Korea's Chuncheon City and were greeted by around 200 fans. "What we want most right now is to perform again," RM, still wearing his army uniform, told reporters and fans after his discharge. "We're working hard on the new album so we can return to the stage as soon as possible." The pair began their service in December 2023, while three other BTS members-Jin, J-Hope and Suga-were already months into their conscription. Jin, the oldest member of the K-pop supergroup, was discharged from the army in June 2024. J-Hope was discharged in October. Jimin and JungKook are scheduled to be discharged Wednesday. The seventh member, Suga, is fulfilling his duty as a social service agent, an alternative to military service. He is to be released later this month. The seven BTS members plan to reunite as a group sometime in 2025. In South Korea, all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 are required by law to perform 18-21 months of military service under a conscription system meant to deter aggression from rival North Korea. Linkin Park Doubles Its Presence On The Rock Chart As Several Classics Return

Linkin Park scores half a dozen hits on the U.K.'s Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, as "What ... More I've Done," "One Step Closer," and "Somewhere I Belong" all return. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 17: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) (L-R) Emily Armstrong, Joe Hahn, Mike Shinoda, and Colin Brittain of Linkin Park attend the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California on March 17, 2025. Broadcasted live on FOX. (Photo byfor iHeartRadio) There's been a lot of excitement around Linkin Park's catalog recently. The group began releasing previously unheard tunes in 2023 in the lead-up to a compilation titled Papercuts dropping. Then, just months later, the band revealed that, for the first time in more than half a decade, newly-written and recorded music was on the way. From Zero, the Grammy-winning act's comeback set, arrived in late 2024 and was bolstered by several huge heavy rock smashes. While many of the tracks featured on the band's most recent project have largely faded, that only makes more room for the classics — several of which return this week. At the moment, Linkin Park fills six spaces on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, which ranks the bestselling titles in those styles throughout the U.K. Impressively, half of those cuts climb from where they sat last time around, while the other three reappear on the list. The three highest-ranking from the band are the ones that didn't need to mount a comeback. "Numb" is the winner this week as it returns to the top 10, jumping from No. 11 to No. 8. It's followed closely by "The Emptiness Machine" at No. 13 and "Faint" at No. 29. "What I've Done," "One Step Closer," and "Somewhere I Belong" round out the group's smashes at the moment. Those songs reenter the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart at Nos. 30, 38, and 39, respectively. Four of Linkin Park's current hits have ruled the Official Rock & Metal Singles ranking, while both "Faint" and "One Step Closer" have previously peaked at No. 3. The disparity between the newest of the bunch and the longest-charting from Linkin Park – unlike the difference in peak positions – is massive. "The Emptiness Machine" has racked up just 39 stays so far, but it will continue to add to that sum for a while. "Numb," meanwhile, only needs one more month before it reaches 900 weeks on the tally. Linkin Park's catalog is always popular in the U.K., but at the moment, the group's music is doing especially well thanks, in part, to an upcoming visit to the nation. Linkin Park is on its From Zero World Tour, which kicked off in 2024 and is expected to run into June of 2026. In late June, the group will revisit London, playing at Wembley Stadium, and in just a few days, the outfit will be back in Europe, crisscrossing across the continent.
