'Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour' Packs 20 Mini Games And 14 Playable Tech Demos

Geek Culture4 days ago

A new trailer has been released for the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour , showing off the 20 mini-games and 14 tech demos players will be able to explore in the game when it releases as a paid digital download alongside Nintendo's upcoming console.
The game's overview trailer, which is currently only available to view on Nintendo's Japanese YouTube channel, spotlights a number of minigames that make use of the console's new features such its mouse mode, including one where players control a UFO and avoid mines, an endless runner style driving game featuring a car that can lean on two wheels, and a balloon popping game with aiming controls similar to that of traditional PC shooters.
On the tech demo front, the trailer showcased one that offered a real-time comparison between 720p and 2160p resolutions, alongside others letting players feel the Joy-Con's haptic feedback functionality like a Macarena shaker demo or one where players freely control a helicopter to feel the shifting vibrations as it flies across the screen.
Apart from its 20 mini games and 14 tech demos, the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour will also feature a hub area designed after the console where players can freely explore and take part in in-game quizzes the learn about its new hardware and software features.
Despite offering a pretty substantial introductory game for the Nintendo Switch 2, the question remains if it can justify its US$10 asking price rather than being included alongside the console, especially considering Sony already did something similar (and arguably better) with Astro's Playroom , a fully-fledged three hour platforming game that also served as a tech demo for the PS5, which came free-of-charge for anyone who bought the console.
Nintendo had previously defended the decision to sell the game instead of bundling it with the console, citing that its price reflects the 'amount of care and work' put into it, and that it is 'not an exorbitant price' and 'feels like a good value for what you're getting out of the product', although one could argue that Astro's Playroom is graphically superior is every way despite being five years old now, and definitely of better value, considering it was free.
In any case, it's up to console users to decide with their wallets when the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour launches on 5 June 2025 for US$9.99 alongside the console's release in the US, Europe, South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan.

Bandai Namco's 'Code Vein 2' Sequel Brings Anime Souls-Like Action Across Space And Time

Bandai Namco Entertainment has unveiled a teaser for Code Vein 2 at Summer Games Fest 2025, the sequel to its 2019 anime vampire souls-like, which brings a gothic twist to the game alongside what seems to be a theme revolving around time. The game will see the return of the Revenants, vampire-like beings who are the sole survivors of a post-apocalyptic world. The trailer also shows off brief snippets of its intense combat, with players facing off against monstrous bosses using a variety of weapons like dual blades, hammers, katanas and unique equipment called Jails, with the trailer also including a tease of a motorcycle which players would seemingly use for traversal. Most interestingly, however, is the game's apparent focus on the concept of time. According to Bandai's official game description, players will 'embark on a journey through a world that spans two eras, where decisions carry weight and every battle tests skill and resolve', alluding to some sort of time-swapping mechanic that might be similar to something seen in another souls-like game, 2023's The Lords of the Fallen . While its predecessor was set in a post-apocalyptic world, Code Vein 2's trailer features a distinct gothic vibe this time around, potentially signalling the ability to shift between this new medieval timeline and the one seen in the first game. Players won't have to embark on their journeys alone either, as the game will bring back its signature partner allies system, which gives players a constant companion to fight alongside them, forging bonds with them along the way and gaining enhanced abilities as a result. According to Bandai, each partner also has 'distinct skills and deep narrative connections that shape the journey', which alludes to multiple companions offering different supporting skills to cater to a player's combat style. Code Vein 2 is set for release sometime in 2026 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. 'Resident Evil: Requiem' Takes New Heroine Back To Raccoon City In Feb 2026

Capcom has brought the next chapter in the Resident Evil franchise to life, and a new protagonist is set to take centre stage. Revealed at Summer Game Fest 2025 as the livestream's closing announcement, Resident Evil: Requiem will take fans back to where it all started when it releases on 27 February 2026, marking a welcome return to its roots. The trailer gives a first look at Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent related to Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak , the first title in the series to feature co-op gameplay and online multiplayer support, who's tasked to look into a series of strange deaths at the scene of her mother's murder. The clip then cuts to her strapped to a gurney, with a shadowy figure in a chair saying, 'I know now that you're the one that I've searching for… special one. Chosen one.' A destroyed Raccoon City also makes an appearance, complete with the remnants of Raccoon City police department and the bomb mark that took it out in Resident Evil 3 . Not much else is known about the upcoming title, but it will feature 'spine-chilling realism like never before, with complex character details like lifelike facial expressions, realistic skin textures, and even high-fidelity sweat droplets that are sure to keep players on the edge of their seats.' The official blurb is as follows: 'Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core. A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancements combined with the development team's depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that's more immersive than ever before.' The arrival of Resident Evil: Requiem has been highly anticipated, following a tease during its summer stream last July, and more recently, amid the celebration of 10 million players for Resident Evil 4 Remake . It got the rumour mill going, which suggested an open-world setting and a conclusion to the story current story arcs, alongside a new beginning for the franchise's future. Resident Evil: Requiem hits PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on 27 February 2026. Si Jia is a casual geek at heart – or as casual as someone with Sephiroth's theme on her Spotify playlist can get. 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword' Shows Off Fierce Slashing Action Against Genma Demons

With a title like Onimusha: Way of the Sword , it's only fair to assume that there will be plenty of slashing action laying in wait. A new trailer unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025 has put that into focus, showcasing the various combat encounters that stand in the way of protagonist Miyamoto Musashi. First up is swordsman Sasaki Ganryu and wielder of the Oni Gauntlet, just like Musashi, who engages in trash talking as he locks swords with the latter. Then, there are the Genma Demons: Daidara, a towering demon that uses a bludgeoning club to wreak havoc, and Kubi Akari, a floating, soul-consuming variant. The 'Issen' technique – a swift strike executed just before an enemy's attack lands (akin to a perfect parry) – was also revealed, alongside a pair of hammer-like dual weapons, a new stage, and a mysterious woman who appears at the end of the clip. 'Fight through bloodbaths of intense swordplay action. Explore the historic Japanese capital of Edo-era Kyoto, twisted by malevolent clouds of Malice. With every stage cloaked in mystery, danger and intrigue. Battle against monstrosities from the underworld known as Genma in a tale of dark fantasy', reads the synopsis for Onimusha: Way of the Sword . 'Follow the tale of a samurai who wields the Oni Gauntlet, a mystical artifact that grants its bearer the power to slay Genma. Through gritty, blood-soaked brawls, he searches for his reason to fight. What fate awaits at the end of his path?' The upcoming mainline entry is the first in the series since 2006's Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams , making it a long-awaited and highly-anticipated revival. First announced at The Game Awards last year, it will arrive sometime in 2026, the same year that Resident Evil: Requiem is due to launch.
