Lakers star Luka Doncic gets shoes signed by Aaron Judge in epic superstar crossover

The post Lakers star Luka Doncic gets shoes signed by Aaron Judge in epic superstar crossover appeared first on ClutchPoints.
The big buzz surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday was Luka Doncic's new slimmer physique, which was revealed in an article published by Men's Health. Concerns about weight and conditioning have long been viewed as the one thing keeping Doncic from reaching his legendary potential, and fans were understandably ecstatic that he seems to have addressed it.
On Monday evening, Doncic was spotted in New York City exchanging pleasantries with New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge. Both Doncic and Judge are under contract with Jordan Brand, and Judge made sure to sign some of Doncic's shoes for him before the Yankees' home game vs the Tampa Bay Rays.

It was a cool moment for nearby fans in the stands to see two of the biggest superstars in sports having a casual conversation with one another.
Big news for the Lakers
Luka Doncic didn't exactly dispell the Dallas Mavericks' accusations of poor conditioning and defense during his brief stretch with the Lakers to end last year.
Doncic consistently appeared to run out of gas down the stretch of games in the Lakers' disappointing first round exit to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minnesota dominated the crunch time minutes of that series.
However, if the reports of Doncic's new and improved weight and conditioning are to be believed (and the photos sure look promising), Lakers fans could have a lot more to be excited about in 2025-26 than it initially appeared.
Los Angeles is still likely a bench piece or two away from legitimate contention in a crowded Western Conference, but Doncic being in better shape could allow LeBron James to be on cruise control throughout the regular season, which would let him amp things up when the postseason rolls around.
In the Men's Health photos, Doncic appeared to be a slim as he's been since his rookie season all the way back in 2018-19, and if that remains the case come October, the Slovenian sensation may finally be able to put together his long-anticipated first MVP season.
The Lakers' schedule is set to be released in August.

New Phillies closer Jhoan Durán caps home shutout of Tigers with fastest pitch in park history

Baseball fans in Philadelphia have never seen anything quite like this. Jhoan Durán made his second appearance for the Phillies Sunday night since arriving via trade from the Minnesota Twins. He secured his second save in those two games. And he closed the 2-0 shutout over the Detroit Tigers with the fastest pitch in Citizen's Bank Park history. Durán's 103.3 mph fastball on a 2-2 count against All-Star Riley Greene set the new stadium record. And it got Greene swinging and missing at the top of the zone to end the game. It also got Phillies fans on their feet. And it wasn't the only record Durán set Sunday night. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Durán threw five pitches in the top of the ninth of 102.4 mph or faster. Each of them was faster than any pitch previously thrown by a Phillies pitcher in the 22-year history of the ballpark. The save capped a standout weekend for the Phillies in the aftermath of acquiring Durán as their bonafide new closer. They end the weekend with a half-game lead over the New York Mets atop the NL East thanks to winning two out of three against the fellow first-place Tigers. Durán closed out both wins. For the second time in three nights, Phillies fans were treated to the electric Durán entrance that followed him from Minnesota, complete with daunting bell chimes, flames and creepy digital spider that's a nod to his nickname, the Durantula. On Friday, Durán secured a 5-4 win with a 1-2-3 effort in the ninth. On Sunday he entered the game in charge of a shutout after eight sensational innings from Cristopher Sanchez. He did not let Sanchez or Phillies fans down. Durán started the inning with a six-pitch groundout of pinch hitter Kerry Carpenter. He induced another groundout on his first pitch to Spencer Torkelson. He then threw five straight fastballs of 101-plus mph to Greene before his 103.3 mph laser ended the game. It was the exact kind of performance the Phillies envisioned when they acquired Durán. And it lowered his season-long ERA to a pristine 1.93. In a baseball postseason where the margins are slim, a strong, reliable closer is often the difference between advancing and not. The Phillies are hoping that Durán turns out to be a difference maker when the stakes are at their highest.

Tauson sweeps Swiatek aside to make Montreal quarters

Denmark's Clara Tauson has stunned second-seeded Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek to reach the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open. The Dane proved too consistent for Polish superstar Swiatek, winning 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 in Montreal on Sunday night (Monday AEST). The 183cm Tauson, seeded 16th in the hard-court event that ends Thursday, avenged a loss to Swiatek at Wimbledon to set up a match on Tuesday with sixth-seeded American Madison Keys, winner of this year's Australian Open singles title. "I think, obviously, getting a win against her after losing to her in Wimbledon a couple of weeks ago is obviously nice, because I was not feeling great in that match, and I felt like I was playing some good tennis in Wimbledon," Tauson said. "So I felt like if I could keep that going, I thought I had a shot." Clara Tauson picks up her first career win over Swiatek and moves into the quarterfinals!#OBN25 — wta (@WTA) August 4, 2025 Tauson won her lone tour title in New Zealand in January, beating fellow Montreal quarter-finalist Naomi Osaka of Japan in the final. Keys outlasted 11th-seeded Czech player Karolina Muchova 4-6 6-3 7-5 in the windy afternoon session. "Clara's a fantastic ball-striker," Keys said about the quarter-final match. "She's got a big serve. She's got a lot of power on both sides. She covers the court quite well on top of everything, so I feel like she's one of those matches where you kind of have to temper a little bit and not go for things too quickly." Osaka also advanced in the afternoon, routing Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova 6-1 6-0 in 49 minutes - the second-fastest victory of her career. Osaka had a 42-minute victory in a 2016 event in Brazil. The four-time major winner reached the final eight of a WTA 1000 or grand slam event for the first time in 19 months. In the quarter-finals she will face 10th-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, a 6-4 6-1 winner over fifth-seeded American and this year's Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova. The quarter-finals will feature 18-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko up against Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, and Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk taking on the ninth seed Elena Rybakina, of Kazakhstan.

Grumpy's Gauntlet part of reimagined back nine at Disney's Magnolia golf course

The back nine at Disney's Magnolia golf course has been completely reimagined as part of a multi-year renovation plan from Arnold Palmer Golf Management. Holes 14-17 are affectionately named 'Grumpy's Gauntlet.' No. 14 is a par 4 with a green sloping away from the center, making approach shots tricky. No. 15, a par 5, measures 597 yards from the back tees. No. 16 is a 456-yard par 4 with water on the left of the green. No. 17 is a par 3 with water on both sides and a multi-sloped green. This stretch has brand new bunkers and brand new greens. This is a facelift for a course, that for over forty years, hosted a season ending stop on the PGA Tour. Jack Nicklaus won the event three times, Tiger Woods won twice in the late nineties, so playing this course means you get to walk in the footsteps of some of the all time greats. Florida residents can save as much as 25% on their tee times, and 20% on golf instruction, and everyone can play year-round on courses that have crowned major winners. Magnolia is rich in history and this revamped back nine stretch is a welcome change. The renovations also include their new 18-hole putting course known as 'The Greatest Green Ever Played.'' The 18-hole putting course features a scorecard and pin locations that change almost daily. It features plenty of undulation, challenging putts, and fast greens that provide a good warm-up before hitting the course, as well as a fun option for kids. The green's new name pays homage to the biographical Walt Disney Pictures sports film, 'The Greatest Game Ever Played,' which is based on the early life of amateur golf champion Francis Ouimet and his surprise victory at the 1913 U.S. Open.
