Duolingo launches scholarship for Indian women in STEM
The scholarship offers a one-time grant of USD 30,000 to support tuition for undergraduate or postgraduate programs in the United States beginning Spring 2026. The application is now open for submissions on the Manthan portal and is aimed at bridging the financial gap for high-achieving Indian women aspiring to pursue global education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
According to an official statement, UGC data shows women's enrollment in STEM disciplines in India rose to 42.6% in 2024, up from 38.4% a decade ago. Despite this progress, financial barriers continue to prevent many from accessing top global institutions. This scholarship seeks to address that challenge.
The Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor serves as the knowledge partner and will also help oversee the application process, including participation in the selection jury.

The selection for the DETermined Scholarship involves a three-stage evaluation process. In the first stage, applicants must submit their application through the Manthan portal, which should include their DET score (minimum 120), academic transcripts, personal and academic background details, and a short write-up or video outlining their vision for innovation in STEM.
Shortlisted candidates will move to the STEM Impact Proposal Challenge, where they must present an innovative solution to a significant STEM-related problem affecting their community or the world. This can be done either as a written proposal of up to 1,000 words or a 5-minute video presentation.
The final stage consists of a virtual interview with a panel, where the finalists will discuss their proposed ideas and explain their motivations and goals in greater depth.

Pixxel-led consortium to use own funds for EO satellite constellation
Pixxel-led consortium that won the government contract to design, build, and operate India's first fully indigenous commercial Earth Observation (EO) satellite constellation bid at zero cost. This means the group will bear the entire Rs 1,200 crore investment while forgoing the government's public-private partnership (PPP) offer of up to Rs 350 crore in support.'The winning bid was zero. I cannot reveal the other bids, but this zero bid by the consortium is a very strong statement that the private sector sees immense opportunities in space,' IN-SPACe chairman Pawan Goenka confirmed to Pixxel consortium, comprising SatSure, PierSight, and Dhruva Space, on Tuesday emerged as the lowest bidder (L1), ahead of two other technically qualified groups: Astra Microwave Products Bharat Electronics , Sisir Radar, and Spectragaze Systems; the second one was GalaxEye Space, with added that without an Indian constellation, the country would end up spending heavily on foreign data, and noted that the PPP model had drawn strong interest. Asked if IN-SPACe had estimated potential savings, he said it would depend on the constellation's revenue.'The lowest revenue estimate among the bidders was Rs 1,800 crore annually. India & Singapore to boost ties in key areas, from healthcare to tech
INDIA AND Singapore on Wednesday finalised around ten as the top ministers from both sides met in Delhi, ahead of a possible visit by Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong next month. Pacts were signed on areas including on connectivity, digitalisation, healthcare and medicine, skills development and advanced technology, an official statement said. The Singaporean delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong and it comprised National Security and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Digital Development and Information Minister Josephine Teo, Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng and Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow. At the third ISMR, the two sides are also understood to have deliberated on an ambitious proposal to lay an undersea cable to carry solar energy from India to Singapore that will also provide data connectivity. Jaishankar described the roundtable as 'productive' and said 'The ISMR had a productive interaction with the India Singapore Business Roundtable #ISBR delegation. Synergy between Government and Industry is key to unlocking the next phase of India-Singapore ties.' An Indian statement said the two sides reviewed the progress of various bilateral cooperation initiatives under the six pillars of the ISMR — advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalisation, healthcare and medicine, skills development and sustainability.
