Eye-watering amount Rolf Harris' wife left in will after years of loyalty
The amount Rolf Harris' wife left in her will has been confirmed - and it's eye-watering. The shamed TV star died aged 93 in May 2023 after suffering from neck cancer and left behind a staggering £16million fortune. Now, it's been confirmed how much his wife Alwen Hughes left in her own will.
Her death came in August last year, aged 92, just one year after her husband. She stood by the disgraced star despite his conviction for a string of historic offences, reports the Mirror.
The Welsh-born sculptor and jewellery designer - who was married to Harris for more than six decades - left a staggering £4million following her death.
Official documents show her estate at the time of her death was worth £3,975,950, reduced to a net value of £3,840,532 after deductions.
Her will - described as complex and drawn up in 2018 years before the death of the former Animal Hospital presenter - included her husband in it.
But following his death a the couple's riverside mansion in Berkshire in May 2023, their only daughter Ava Reeves (formerly known as Bindi) was listed as the main heir.
Other relatives were also included in the final document.
Harris and Welsh married in 1958. She stood by his side despite his convictions and attended every day of Harris' initial trial alongside their daughter - who later changed her name to cut ties with Harris' tarnished legacy.
It comes just weeks after the couple's luxury property hit the market, two years after his death, with a £4million price tag.
A source told the Mirror at the time how Ava had been trying to sell the property: 'Bindi [Ava] was seen emptying the property about a month ago," the insider said.

"She wants to sell it, but she doesn't desperately need the money and is in no rush, so she's determined to hold out for a good price. Potential buyers have already begun viewings."
Harris died of neck cancer at the house aged 93 in May 2023, a year before Welsh, who had been suffering from Alzheimer's.
The former presenter was jailed in July 2014 for five years and nine months after he was found guilty of a dozen indecent assaults against four young girls.
His crimes took place between 1968 and 1986. In one instance, it's claimed Harris sexually assaulted one of his daughter's friends, who was between the ages of 13 and 19 at the time.
During his final hours while surrounded by loved ones, Harris is said to have made an emotional request to his daughter through a feeding tube. His parting words were reported to be: "I always believed we would go on longer together but, if I go first, promise you'll take good care of your mum."

This Cult US Beauty Brand Has Finally Arrived In The UK - And It's Bound To Sell Out
With new beauty brands launching left, right and centre, my list of must-haves for a launch to impress me keeps getting longer and longer. And why should I settle? Many of my favourite products are cruelty-free, have refillable options, work across all skin types, feel luxurious and don't cost the Earth. Not to mention, of course, that they actually work. When a brand promises all of the above and more, I'm obviously intrigued. The latest brand on my radar to do just that? INNBEAUTY Project. The US-born brand has already taken Sephora North America by storm, and now it's finally arrived in the UK. Founded by industry insiders Jen Shane, who's previously developed products for Bare Minerals and Tatcha, and Alisa Metzger, a L'Oreal and Coty alumna, INNBEAUTY Project was created with a noble mission - to deliver gold-standard results without the gold-standard mark-up. It's a simple idea, but in a world where £200 serums are still the norm, it feels quietly revolutionary. Here's what sets it apart: each formula is packed with 8–10 clinically proven actives (the industry average is just a handful), and every product is tested by independent third parties at a level of rigour I honestly don't often see. Across trials, testers saw 100% improvement in skin firmness, smoothness and hydration - that's the kind of proof beauty editors dream of. The hero products already making noise? Extreme Cream, £49, a firming and contouring moisturiser that's now Sephora North America's number three bestseller. Extreme Cream Eye, £49, which became the #1 eye treatment in the US within weeks and sold out multiple times. And Calm the Red Down, £54, an innovative dual-chamber redness solution that reduced redness in every single participant within just seven days (and is at the top of my list to try). In addition to performance, INNBEAUTY also ticks the beauty boxes that some brands overlook - every product is vegan, cruelty-free, has refillable packaging, and is designed to work for a variety of skin types. It isn't often a brand gets so much right from the off, making it one of the most exciting launches this year. If excitement levels about the UK launch on its social channels are anything to go by, its hero products will be extremely popular, so if you're as intrigued as I am, now's the time to shop. 1. Extreme Cream Refillable Moisturiser A luxurious, refillable moisturiser that's clinically proven to lift, firm, and contour skin while smoothing deep wrinkles. This innovative product delivers instant hydration and is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, and ideal for wearing under make-up. 2. Extreme Cream Firming & Contouring Refillable Eye Cream By targeting puffiness, sagging and wrinkles, this high-performance, refillable eye cream lifts, firms, and re-contours the skin. Clinically proven and dermatologist-tested, it's hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and great for sensitive skin. 3. Calm the Red Down Dual Chamber Redness Treatment Serum This dual-chamber serum combines a long-term barrier-repairing treatment with an instant green-tinted redness corrector. Clinically proven to reduce redness by 100% in one week and by 76% on average over six weeks, it delivers soothing, hypoallergenic relief for irritated, blotchy skin. 4. Recharge Gel Cream The perfect moisturiser to see you through into autumn and winter, this is a lightweight, water-burst moisturiser infused with orchid stem cells, peptides, and a mineral complex. It visibly smooths, plumps, and strengthens the skin barrier, without a greasy finish. 5. Elastic Skin Firming & Plumping Vegan Growth Factor Serum Formulated with proven actives - copper peptides, vegan growth factors, wild yam, collagen amino acids, ceramides - Elastic Skin visibly firms, plumps, hydrates, and smooths fine lines. 6. Bright & Tight Dark Circle Firming Eye Cream This lightweight gel cream blends three forms of vitamin C, 3% tranexamic acid, peptides, bakuchiol, caffeine, and cedar bark to brighten dark circles, firm and hydrate delicate under-eye skin, and smooth fine lines. The perfect antidote to a late night. 7. Green Machine Vitamin C Dark Spot & Hyperpigmentation Serum Essentially a green smoothie for your skin, The Green Machine Serum is a vitamin C-rich oil-jelly serum that visibly brightens skin, targets dark spots and hyperpigmentation, and smooths texture within four weeks. Powered by 15 (!) green superfoods, stem cells, niacinamide, and tranexamic acid, it soothes and hydrates all skin types. Plan to turn old 'eyesore' bookies into home turned down
Plan to turn old 'eyesore' bookies into home turned down The bookmaker's is said to be 'falling into a state of disrepair' in a coastal Welsh town known for its architecture The former betting shop in Aberaeron (Image: Local Democracy Reporting Service) An appeal against the rejection of plans to transform an "eyesore" 1960s flat-roof betting shop into a home in a Ceredigion coastal town renowned for its Georgian architecture has been dismissed. In an application turned down last August Dafydd Phillips, of nearby Ffosyffin, sought approval from Ceredigion planners to transform the former Wright Bookmakers in Castle Lane, Aberaeron, into a one-bedroom property involving the removal of a flat roof and adding a first-floor extension. For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here . The bookmaker's, housed in a 1965 building within the town's conservation area behind the Prince of Wales pub, shut its doors in 2018 and was described as "falling into a state of disrepair". A supporting statement via agent Morgan & Flynn Architectural Services argued the existing building is "not providing a sympathetic approach in appearance to the setting of the conservation area and therefore means that it provides little evidential value", claiming it "actually creates an eyesore that is not sympathetic to its surroundings". An officer report, advising rejection, stated: "Whilst [the planning authority] agrees that the loss of the existing building would not be particularly impactful on the conservation area as a whole due to the building being a relatively recent addition to Aberaeron and having little architectural merit given its context the design for the proposed dwelling is not deemed acceptable." The council also noted that affordable housing policy required a commuted sum equivalent to 10% of the open market value but no such agreement had been secured when the application was submitted. Article continues below The proposal was turned down due to "inappropriate design that fails to positively contribute to the context of its location and surroundings due to the sensitivity of its setting within a conservation area and close proximity to numerous listed buildings" and the absence of a formal section 106 legal agreement. After the rejection developers submitted an appeal to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW). An inspector's report, compiled after a site visit in July, concluded the proposed development "would double the height of the building, raising it above the predominantly single-storey rear lane buildings and boundaries, and substantially increasing its prominence". Article continues below The report said that "would unacceptably alter the significance of the dwellings' historically taller form and harm the experience and understanding of the historical hierarchy between the dwellings and the more subservient lane structures". Regarding affordable housing contributions the report stated: "Although the appellant indicated a willingness to make an appropriate contribution to meet Policy S05 requirements no mechanism was provided to secure such a contribution at the application stage," and a pledge to provide a contribution in support of the appeal did not convince the inspector that it "would secure the necessary contribution to affordable housing".

Fewer but taller turbines on the cards for Dumfries and Galloway windfarm development
Foresight Group is now working on plans for six, 250 metre tall windmills at Glenmuckloch. Fewer but taller turbines are on the cards for a windfarm development in Upper Nithsdale. Foresight Group is working on plans for six, 250 metre tall windmills at Glenmuckloch, a few miles north of Kirkconnel. Planning permission already exists for eight turbines with a maximum height of 149.9 m. The Scottish Government has already given the green light for a pumped storage hydro scheme at the former open cast coal mine, which Foresight is continuing to work on. The proposed six turbine scheme is being called Glenmuckloch Hill to avoid confusion with the existing scheme. If the new, 33.6MW capacity development gets the go ahead, the eight turbine project will not be built. Foresight homes to lodge a planning application with the council later this year. Before then, it is holding a public consultation at Kirkconnel Miner's Memorial Hall on Wednesday, August 27 and Sanquhar Town Hall on Thursday, August 28. Both will run from 1pm to 6pm. Foresight became the new developer of the £250 million hydro energy scheme at Glenmuckloch in 2022 after agreeing a lease with Buccleuch. In 2023 and 2024 the site was used to hold the Hydro X Prix, part of the Extreme E motorsport series.
