Alexandra Eala made sure her country was represented during her match against defending champion Barbora Krejcikova (Jordan Pettitt/PA)
Twenty-year-old Alexandra Eala made her Wimbledon Centre Court debut when facing reigning women's singles champion Barbora Krejcikova in the first round.
The Filipino ensured the flag was flown for her nation not only via her performance – a gallant loss having taken the first set – but also through a unique accessory provided by sponsors Nike.
Eala wore a hairband shaped into the form of the sampaguita, the national flower of the Philippines, in a box that was printed with the Filipino proverb 'kung may tinanim, may aanihin' – 'if you plant, you will harvest'.

Quote of the day
'Would I want to play three-out-of-five? No. I would rather the men play two-out-of-three. I don't think we all need to start playing three-out-of-five. I personally will not watch a full five-hour match. People can't even hold their attention long enough they say these days with phones. How are they holding their attention for five hours? ' – Jessica Pegula when asked if women would switch to a best-of-five format.

Emma Raducanu's second-round clash with Marketa Vondrousova will be a real draw on day three as two former grand slam winners meet at a relatively early stage in the tournament.

Vondrousova, who would go on to win Wimbledon in 2023, comes into their tie in good grass form having taken the Berlin Open earlier this month and will be hoping to turn the tables on the British star.

Former British No.1 tennis player banned from Wimbledon grounds
Former British No.1 tennis player banned from Wimbledon grounds Christopher 'Buster' Mottram was Britain's leading male player in the late 1970s and early 80s, but has been barred from Wimbledon since 2023 following 'misdemeanours' Buster Mottram, pictured during his tennis career, has been banned by Wimbledon (Image: MSI ) A divisive former tennis star has reportedly been excluded from Wimbledon. Christopher Mottram, known widely as 'Buster', was Britain's leading male player in the late 1970s and early 80s as well as representing his country in the Davis Cup. However, he has been barred from SW19 since 2023, fellow former British tennis star Roger Taylor has revealed. Taylor made the claim in his recently-released book, The Man Who Saved Wimbledon, per the Daily Mail's Eden Confidential column. Now 70, Mottram was seen as a controversial figure. He once wrote a letter in support of then-prime minister Margaret Thatcher during her battles with the trade unions in the 80s, even signing it on behalf of the Davis Cup team, which left the tennis authorities fuming. Additionally, he faced allegations of racism due to his backing of Enoch Powell, a far-right politician notorious for his 'Rivers of Blood' speech about mass immigration in the late-60s. Taylor, 83, wrote: "His antics and beliefs saw him frozen out by the establishment. He never became a permanent member of the All England Club which, for player with his record, would usually be guaranteed. In 2023, following further misdemeanours, he was banned from the place altogether." Article continues below Mottram is said to be no longer welcome at SW19 (Image:) When approached for comment, a Wimbledon spokesperson said: "I'm afraid we don't comment on our membership." Mottram has been left feeling despondent by his expulsion, although Taylor attributed the ban primarily to his own conduct. He wrote: "Buster spent more time there than just about anyone else and it's been very sad to watch his decline and exclusion, even if much of it has been down to his own failings." In his heyday, Mottram soared to 15th in the world rankings in 1978 and 1983, with his most notable Wimbledon achievement being reaching the fourth round in 1982. He made it to the fourth round at both the French Open and the US Open as well. He was also a member of the British Davis Cup team that was runner-up to the United States in 1978. A young Mottram in action (Image: Getty ) Mottram abruptly hung up his racket in 1983, blaming the continuous "hassle" of participating in year-round tournaments. He later ventured into right-wing politics but found himself ejected from UKIP for fraternising with the British National Party (BNP) and its leader Nick Griffin. After attempting to broker a pact between UKIP and the BNP, Mottram was ejected from the party, then under Nigel Farage's leadership. Farage said at the time: "There are no circumstances, no possible situations, in which we would even consider doing any type of deal with the BNP whatsoever. "I'm simply amazed that the BNP thought we would even consider such a thing, given that we are a non-racist, non-sectarian party." Article continues below Griffin had entertained hopes of forming an agreement to prevent BNP and UKIP candidates from competing against one another in the forthcoming European elections.

Nan shows off her payday fake designer clobber haul from Turkey – but trolls say they'd ‘put them straight in the bin'
Plus, can you be prosecuted against if you buy counterfeit products in Turkey? RUBBISH HAUL Nan shows off her payday fake designer clobber haul from Turkey – but trolls say they'd 'put them straight in the bin' TURKEY has become one of the biggest destinations for those looking to snap up designer fakes on the cheap. The popular holiday destination has long been regarded as the 'capital of fakes' among Brits looking to rock designer styles for the price of a coffee. 2 One nan decided to go wild after getting paid whilst in Turkey Credit: tiktok/@littlelisa_48 2 The gran napped up a mega haul of fake designer gear, including replicas of Nike and Hugo Boss Credit: tiktok/@littlelisa_48 A quick four hour flight could land you in a bustling market flogging 'Gucci belts' for £3 and Louis 'Fuitton' handbags for £20. So it comes as no surprise one gran, only known as Lisa, went totally wild after she got paid during her holiday in Turkey. The nan, who works for the NHS, snapped up a mega haul of fake designer gear, including replicas of Nike and Hugo Boss. To treat herself without forking out a fortune, Lisa purchased trendy Nike trainers in black, as well as several purses. One of these - a replica of Louis Vuitton - cost her just a tenner, while a similar version online will set you back close to £1,500. Although Lisa already boasts a huge collection of bags, the bargain deal was too good to sleep on, she chuckled in the video. The monster haul, posted under the username @littlelisa_48, also had plenty of prezzies for the smallest ones in the family, such as Crocs knock-offs, a stylish Hugo Boss set for her grandson and Adidas football jersey. Another gift her eldest grandson will be treated to is the viral and sought-after Palm Angels T-shirt in white - which on average retails for around £100. With the grandson's birthday to look forward to, it seems the nan went all out - as she also purchased fake Louis Vuitton trainers with faux leather detailing and the iconic logo. In the clip, Lisa revealed that she also couldn't resist the same trainers but in a baby version. My favourite outfit has been labelled 'frumpy & ageing' by cruel fashionistas, but screw them… I'll be buried wearing it ''Baby LV, so cute I had to get them.'' The epic haul was indeed a successful one, as the Brit nan went to show off her brand new ''designer'' bags and wallets - more than a dozen in total. ''When you get paided [paid] while in Turkey,'' Lisa wrote in the seemingly never-ending video. Is it Illegal to Buy 'Designer' Dupes in Turkey? In Turkey, buying counterfeit goods is generally considered illegal. If you buy a counterfeit product for personal use, you're unlikely to be prosecuted against - unless your purchase involves a significant quantity or the intent to resell. Customs authorities have the power to stop and seize counterfeit goods entering or leaving Turkey. That means they can stop you upon your return home and seize any designer dupes you've bought on holiday. 'Where did you buy these? So I can avoid' Although the clip was posted just a day ago, it's already taken the internet by storm - but for all the wrong reasons. As close to 250k people viewed the video, almost 2,000 gave it a like and 160 flooded to comments to share their brutal verdict on the cut-price items. One wasn't impressed by the quality and joked: ''The crocs look like those real or cake videos.'' Another chimed in: ''Where did you buy these? So I can avoid.'' ''Grandson finna be looking fly in this new gear,'' someone else chuckled. ''If my nan bought me any of this it's getting dashed straight in the bin,'' a fourth added, as Lisa had the perfect response. ''Just shows how ungrateful you are,'' she hit back.
