'Threw Some Choicest Of Words': Irfan Pathan Makes Bizarre Revelation About Chappell
Irfan Pathan has spoken about Greg Chappell's aggressive coaching style, its impact on Indian cricket and a personal altercation.
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has said that Greg Chappell was a bit too aggressive in his way of handling players and he was too straightforward in telling the cricketers that if they didn't perform, they would be dropped, adding that he too once had an altercation with the coach.
Chappell's publicised spat with then-skipper Sourav Ganguly, which followed a change in captaincy and the latter's unceremonious ouster from the team, drew significant backlash for the former.
While a host of former players during the time have since spoken negatively about Chappell, there are some who not just commend his skills as a coach but sympathise with him as well. Irfan is one of them.
'He had his way of treating seniors and juniors with the same respect. But in that, he would be a bit more aggressive than one would like. He would tell anyone that if they don't perform, they will be dropped," Irfan said while speaking to Lallantop.
'I realised it was too aggressive and once I talked to him privately about it. I told him that we already know what you keep saying about being dropped. You don't need to tell us," Irfan added.
The former Indian cricketer provided a hypothetical example, explaining how coaches must accept the culture when they are coming from a different nation.
'If I go to Bangladesh or Sri Lanka or England as a coach and if I don't accept their culture, would their players accept me? Greg Chappell's intention was right, but he wanted to bring an Australian culture," Irfan said.
'He (Chappell) wanted us to play hard cricket and didn't care what background anyone came from. But you can certainly do it in a much better way," Irfan added.

Bhatia squeezes into last spot for elite Tour Championship; Scheffler wins again
Owing Mills (USA), Aug 18 (PTI) Akshay Bhatia endured an anxious wait after dropping four bogeys in his last six holes of the BMW Championship, but eventually squeezed into the 30th and final spot for the season-ending Tour Championship. Bhatia, who had started the week ranked 29th in the FedEx Cup standings, shot 75-69-66-72 for a two-over total and finished tied-26th in the 49-player field. H he looked set to slip outside the top-30, but late results confirmed his place, giving him a second straight appearance at the elite finale. The Hero Golfer had provided one of the highlights of the week with a hole-in-one in the third round, which earned him a car. Scottie Scheffler produced another stunning performance, erasing a four-shot deficit in five holes before chipping in from 82 feet on the par-3 17th to seal his fifth PGA TOUR title of the year. He closed with a 3-under 67 to finish at 15-under 265, two shots clear of Scotland's Robert MacIntyre. Scheffler thus became the first player since Tiger Woods (2006-07) to win at least five times on the PGA TOUR in consecutive years. Scheffler has 18 career titles in the last three years and six months since his first PGA TOUR title in Phoenix. MacIntyre pulled within one shot of the lead going to the 17th, the toughest hole at Caves Valley. Scheffler went just left in the rough, the ball sitting up nicely but the shot was very tough. He landed it some 60 feet short and watched it trickle, and then roll, and then slow again until it dropped into the cup. MacIntyre stared at it totally stunned. MacIntyre, who made 18 birdies in the first 45 holes of the tournament, made only two over the last 27 holes. He shot 73. Scheffler leads the 30 players who advanced to the TOUR Championship at East Lake with a chance to become the first repeat FedExCup champion since the series began in 2007. All 30 players at East Lake can win the USD 10 million first-place prize money. Rickie Fowler was on the verge of getting back to East Lake only to twice miss the green from the fairway on the back nine, leading to bogey on the 14th and double bogey on the 15th, which knocked him out of the top 30. Bhatia, despite making four bogeys and seemingly blowing his chances, was lucky to find himself back inside top-30. Lahiri 27th at Indianapolis, ends season 25th in LIV standings
Westfield (USA), Aug 18 (PTI) Anirban Lahiri signed off with a two-under 69 to finish tied-27th at the LIV Golf event in Indianapolis, ending the regular season 25th in the individual standings of the Liv Golf league. Lahiri shot 67-67-69 for a 10-under total as Sebastian Munoz beat Jon Rahm in a play-off after both tied at 22-under. However, Rahm finished atop the standings. It earned him a second straight season-long title. At 25th place, Lahiri was one place outside the 'Lock Zone' which ensured a spot for 2026. He is now in the 'Open Zone' under which his team, Crushers, can trade him or release him. Lahiri has been an important member of Crushers, which is led by Bryson DeChambeau, who was third overall. Rahm shot a career-best 11-under 60 to pass points leader Joaquin Niemann on the final day of the regular season at The Club at Chatham Hills that was delayed by an hour due to inclement weather. It also gave him a chance to earn his first tournament title this season but for the second straight week, he lost on the first hole of a playoff, this time to Munoz. Rahm had mixed emotions after a season in which he was runner-up four times and finished outside the top-10 just once. Rahm's solo second left him with 226.16 points this season, while Niemann's tie for fourth on Sunday put him at 223.68.
