Giants trade struggling 1B/OF LaMonte Wade Jr. and cash to Angels
The Los Angeles Angels acquired veteran first baseman and outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. and cash from the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. The Angels will send cash or a player to be named to San Francisco for the 31-year-old Wade, who had been with the Giants since 2021. The team designated him for assignment last Wednesday. Los Angeles right-hander Michael Darrell-Hicks was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. Wade batted .167 with one homer and 15 RBIs for the Giants this season, his struggles culminating with a 2-for-17 performance on the team's most recent road trip. Wade hit a career-high .260 last season, and he gained a reputation in San Francisco for clutch late-game performances. The Angels currently have Nolan Schanuel at first base and six outfielders on their major league roster, but some have position flexibility. Angels general manager Perry Minasian and Giants general manager Zack Minasian are brothers.

Bryan Reynolds' bases-loaded triple leads Pirates to season-high 4th straight win, 10-3 over Marlins
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Bryan Reynolds hit a bases-loaded triple to cap a four-run third inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the skidding Miami Marlins 10-3 on Monday night for their season-high fourth straight win. Reynolds put the Pirates ahead 4-1 with a line drive to the gap in right-center field off Eury Perez (0-1), who was making his first major league start since Sept. 20, 2023, after recovering from Tommy John surgery. Reynolds' hit came after Andrew McCutchen had an RBI infield single. Advertisement All nine Pirates had hits, and McCutchen and Adam Frazier paced a 15-hit attack with three apiece. Brett Sullivan had two RBIs in his Pirates debut after being called up Saturday from Triple-A Indianapolis. Perez lasted just three innings and gave up four runs and four hits. He had five strikeouts and two walks while throwing 70 pitches as the Marlins lost for the eighth time in their last nine games. Despite missing so much time, Perez is still the youngest pitcher in the major leagues at 22 years, 55 days. The Pirates broke the game open with a four-run sixth that included two throwing errors by the Marlins on Ke'Bryan Hayes' bunt single. That put Pittsburgh ahead 8-2. Advertisement The Marlins' Otto Lopez hit a leadoff home run in the second inning, his sixth, to open the scoring. Miami lost for the eighth time in nine games. Pirates rookie starter Mike Burrows allowed two runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings with six strikeouts and three walks. Caleb Ferguson (2-0) pitched two perfect innings. The start of the game was delayed 41 minutes because of the threat of inclement weather. Key moment Reynolds' triple gave the Pirates all the runs they would need. Key stat The Pirates are 20-8 against NL East teams at home since the start of last season. Up next Marlins RHP Sandy Alcantara (2-7, 7.89 ERA) faces Pirates RHP Mitch Keller (1-8, 4.13) on Tuesday night in the middle game of the series. ___ AP MLB: John Perrotto, The Associated Press

'OH MY GOD!': This Outfielder Just Made A Spider-Man Move To Rob A Home Run
'OH MY GOD!': This Outfielder Just Made A Spider-Man Move To Rob A Home Run Denzel Clarke, a rookie outfielder for the MLB's Athletics, made what some baseball fans are calling one of the best catches they've ever seen Monday after he scaled the outfield wall to rob a home run against the Los Angeles Angels. Clarke pulled off the Spider-Man-like move after Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel smacked the ball high and deep toward left-center field in what would've been a homer to give L.A. a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Advertisement But Clarke jumped up at the warning track, used his foot to boost his body over the outfield wall and miraculously caught the ball before dropping back down to the field. Clarke swiftly celebrated the unreal grab as Athletics' pitcher Grant Holman — and Schanuel — appeared stunned. 'Oh, my God! Oh, my God!' said Dallas Braden, one of the Athletics TV broadcasters, of the play. 'I've heard the list, I've seen the list of the greatest catches you're ever going to see in your life and if you don't have room for this one on your list, we're watching two different sports.' Clarke has recently made a number of jaw-dropping, acrobatic defensive plays in the outfield since his debut on May 23. Advertisement On May 30, he climbed the outfield wall like a ladder to rob Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk of a home run. In a game against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, he snagged Jorge Mateo's deep hit at the warning track just before running into the outfield wall and retaining control of the ball in his glove to record the final out of the inning. As a result, he won back-to-back MLB Electric Play of the Week awards. This makes him just the second player to pull off such a feat (the Detroit Tigers' Riley Greene pulled this off in 2022) since the league began to give out the award in 2019, per the Athletics, and his play on Monday makes him a leading candidate to win it again. Advertisement Baseball fans on X, formerly Twitter, were astonished by the play. Related...
