ANZAC Day is celebrated in Australia and New Zealand on 25 April yearly. It is a day to remember the soldiers who fought at the Battle of Gallipoli during the First World War, and to pay tribute to all Australian and New Zealand soldiers who have served in various wars and peacekeeping missions.
ANZAC stands for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. On this day, a memorial service is held at dawn.

Six other lucky winners claimed the division two prize, taking home $282,415.55 each. There were also 187 winners who took home $11,265.60 each in division three. About half of Australian adults around the country purchased a ticket. In February 2024, a Queensland woman won a record $200m Powerball jackpot. She has since relocated from Hawthorne in Brisbane to a coastal home. 'The last year has flown by. It's hard to believe it's been one year since my life-changing event. I often speak with my partner about the version of us from last year to now, and if only we knew what was to come!" the woman told The Lott earlier this year. She said "not a huge amount has changed" in her life and she is still trying to live life how she did before her win, waking up at 6am for the gym and taking the dog for a walk. "We have purchased a place near the ocean on the coast and continue to create lifelong memories with our beautiful family and friends," the woman added. 'Our local community will be a big focus for 2025. Each day, we're deeply grateful, and we often speak of that day."

‘Heartbreaking beyond words': Many killed as Air India plane bound for London crashes on take-off
One television channel showed the plane gaining height over a residential area and then disappearing from the screen before a huge cloud of fire and smoke rose into the sky from beyond the houses. Firefighters doused the smoking wreckage of the plane, which would have been fully loaded with fuel, and an adjacent multi-story building with water. Charred bodies lay on the ground. At least 30 bodies had been recovered from a building at the site of the crash, rescue personnel said, and more people were trapped inside. 'The building on which it has crashed is a doctor's hostel ... we have cleared almost 70 per cent to 80 per cent of the area and will clear the rest soon,' a senior police officer told reporters. Bhupendra Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat, the state where the crash occurred, said a corridor had been set up to quickly transport injured passengers to hospitals for treatment, The New York Times reported. India's Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, posted on X that rescue teams had been mobilised, and all efforts were being made to ensure medical aid and relief support at the site. 'We are on highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation,' he said. A spokesperson for India's Ahmedabad airport said all flights had been temporarily suspended. Gatwick Airport confirmed the plane had been due to land in London at 6.25pm local time. British Foreign Minister David Lammy said he was deeply saddened by news of the crash, while a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said King Charles was being kept updated. Britain was now working with Indian authorities, Lammy said. 'My thoughts are with all those affected,' he posted on X. 'The UK is working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support.' Britain has very close ties with India. There were nearly 1.9 million people in the country of Indian descent, according to the 2021 UK census. A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said the Australian government expressed its condolences to those affected by the Air India crash. The Australian High Commission in New Delhi and the Consulate-General in Mumbai were urgently following up with the local authorities to determine whether there were any Australians on board. Air India's chairman, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, said its 'primary focus is on supporting all the affected people and their families'. A very fortunate Australian has banked a mammoth nine-figure sum in Powerball's highest prize of the year. The ticketholder, from New South Wales, was the only Lotto player to match all seven winning numbers plus the all-important Powerball, resulting in a staggering $100 million windfall. Luck was in favour for 23 WA players in division three, with a total of 187 players pocketing hauls worth more than $11,265. While WA players missed out on division own and two prizes, Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said West Aussies still came out winners. 'As a State Government owned and operated lottery, all available profits from ticket sales go into our grants program, which supports communities across WA,' she said. 'From a $4.65 million grant to build a community hub in Newman, to a $12,924 grant providing heating for the Blackwood Dungeons and Dragons Winterfest in July.' The winning numbers for draw #1517 were 28, 10, 3, 16, 31, 14 and 21. The Powerball was 6. It comes after a West Aussie couple, aged in their 50s, pocketed more than $627,000 is Saturday's draw. The pair had just taken in the joy of a thrilling music concert - but the real music to their ears was still to come. 'After coming out of the concert I decided to check my Lotto ticket and couldn't believe what I saw,' one of them said. 'I was shaking and in tears when I realised we had won the Lotto and I've been in shock ever since.'
