Tate Taylor becomes fastest high school 100m sprinter in history
Taylor, a junior at San Antonio Harlan High School, ran the historic time at the Texas State Championships in Austin.

He broke the high school record of 9.93 seconds set by Floridian Christian Miller in 2024, according to Track and Field News.
Before Saturday, nobody at Taylor's age (17 years, 7 months, according to track and field statistics website Tilastopaja.info) or younger had ever broken 10 seconds in a wind-legal race, according to World Athletics.
Taylor's time makes him the world's second-fastest man so far this year across all ages behind South African Akani Simbine, who ran 9.90 in April.
A 9.92 would have placed fourth at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials, where the top three made the team for the Paris Games in the individual 100m, plus more for the 4x100m relay pool.

Taylor also ran the 200m in 20.14 on Saturday, making him the fourth-fastest man in history in that event under the age of 18 after Erriyon Knighton, Usain Bolt and Gout Gout.

Sweden's Mondo Duplantis has broken the men's pole vault world record for a 13th time. Duplantis, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, cleared 6.29 meters (20 feet 7 1/2 inches) at a meet in Budapest, Hungary, on Tuesday. For all of Duplantis' 13 world records, including three times in 2025, he has chosen to increase the record by the minimum one centimeter. It's the same record-breaking strategy used by Ukrainian Sergey Bubka, who maximized bonus money by raising the bar one centimeter at a time on many occasions in the 1980s and '90s. Bubka broke the outdoor world record 17 times and the indoor world record 18 times between 1984 and 1994, before World Athletics shifted to one world record combining indoor and outdoor. Before Duplantis, the world record was 6.16 meters, set by Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie in 2014. Duplantis, born and raised in Louisiana with a Swedish mom, broke Lavillenie's record in February 2020. Brevis' record-breaking century for South Africa ends Australia's 9-match winning streak in T20s
DARWIN, Australia -- Dewald Brevis smacked a record T20 century to help South Africa end the nine-match winning streak of Australia's cricketers as a 53-run victory on Tuesday levelled the three-match series at 1-1. The 22-year-old Brevis bludgeoned eight sixes and 12 fours in his breath-taking 125 not out off 56 balls to surpass Faf du Plessis' South Africa record of 119, made against the West Indies in 2015. Brevis displayed an extraordinary range of shots all around the wicket to propel South Africa to 218-7, after Australia captain Mitchell Marsh had won the toss and elected to field on the same wicket where his team had successfully defended 178 two days before. Australia's top-order batters briefly had a crack at the steep target with Tim David scoring a robust 50 off 24 balls. But once he perished in the 10th over, the wheels came off as the home team was bowled out for 165 in 17.4 overs. 'I have not really thought about it (the record), but extremely grateful,' Brevis said after receiving his player of the match award. 'Just happy we won today, great to be out here on the winning side.' Zampa broke the century partnership by having Stubbs caught at backward point Australia rallied to take four wickets at the end, but Brevis had done enough damage by that time to give South Africa its imposing total. Marsh, whose side beat West Indies 5-0 after chasing successfully in all five games in the preceding series, praised Brevis. 'He is a young, powerful man,' Marsh said. 'An upcoming player in international cricket and well played to him. Chasing that down was going to be tough. We needed a few partnerships early and could not do that.'
