Report: Los Angeles Clippers expected to show interest in Boston Celtics vet Jrue Holiday
There may be another suitor for veteran Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday this offseason. As the Celtics will likely try to clear salary this summer to diminish the punishing incoming payroll and tax bill their roster would be set to incur thanks to the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), Holiday has been floated as one of the more likely players to be on the move to such an end.
And now MassLive's Brian Robb reports that "Holiday is expected to be pursued by several teams on the trade market," lining up with similar reports from the likes of the Stein Line's Marc Stein, and "the Los Angeles Clippers are one team expected to show interest in the 34-year-old guard this offseason."
Astute readers will recall that the Clippers were one of the ball clubs pursuing the UCLA alum before the Celtics successfully dealt for Holiday in 2023, so the rumbles make sense from what we know about what their front office values in terms of team building.
Whether the two teams would be able to put together an offer that would make sense for both sides is another matter.
But it is a possibility to monitor as the offseason unfolds, and a potential point of leverage for Boston to use in negotiations with other teams should they elect to consider moving on from Holiday.

Celtics Could Lose NBA Champion to Knicks in Free Agency
Celtics Could Lose NBA Champion to Knicks in Free Agency originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Even before Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles, there were many questions regarding who would stay and who would go on the Boston Celtics this offseason. Being above the NBA's second tax apron, the Celtics will likely part ways with some of their players. Advertisement They also have some free agents this summer, including Al Horford, Luke Kornet, and Torrey Craig. The most decorated of those free agents is obviously Horford, who has played seven years for the Celtics and has helped make multiple extensive playoff runs. The five-time All-Star will be 39 this summer, and while he has impressively continued to play at an NBA level despite his age, he still only has so much time left. With Tatum out indefinitely, the Celtics may not be able to compete at a high level, which puts re-signing Horford into question. Boston Celtics center Al Horford (42).© Bill Streicher-Imagn Images On "The Hoop Collective," ESPN's Tim Bontemps expressed his doubts as to whether Horford will stay in Boston. Advertisement "Al Horford is a free agent," said Bontemps. "I don't think at this point it makes a lot of sense for ... Horford to be back in Boston. Maybe he will be, but given where things are with the Celtics, I think he's now much more in play than he might have been a month ago." By contrast, Bontemps believes the New York Knicks hold plenty of appeal to Horford as a destination. "Horford is a longtime friend of (Karl-Anthony Towns and) has played with him with the Dominican National team for a long time," Bontemps said. "If they go get Al Horford this summer, ... I think (he) would be an unbelievable fit on this Knicks roster." Advertisement The Celtics lost Horford the last time he hit free agency when he left to join the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019. The last time the Celtics had former players join the Knicks in free agency was 2021 when Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier joined them. Sounders players protest MLS's Club World Cup ‘cash grab', fair player payments ahead of match
MLS players are not letting the fight over Club World Cup bonuses go away. The Seattle Sounders held a player protest over the issue Sunday ahead of their match with Minnesota United, wearing shirts that read, 'World Cup Cash Grab.' 'FAIRSHARE NOW' was written across the back of the shirts. Every member of the Sounders squad wore the shirts during warmups. 3 Cristian Roldan walks onto the field before the Seattle Sounders' match June 1. Getty Images The shirts were in protest to MLS players' concerns over the cut of bonuses they'll receive from their participation in the upcoming Club World Cup, set to begin later this month in the United States. Inter Miami, the Sounders and LAFC will all represent MLS in the 32-team tournament, and FIFA announced in March that MLS teams would get $9.5 million alone just for participating. There are also additional bonuses for teams when they win or tie, setting up the possibility for the MLS clubs in the tournament to come away with large sums of money from the Club World Cup. 3 Seattle Sounders players warm up before their match June 1. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect However, a clause in the current MLS collective bargaining agreement — Article 10.8 — limits how much players get from non-MLS tournaments, which caps it at 50 percent of the tournament prize or up to $1 million. 'The MLSPA and all MLS players stand united with the Seattle Sounders players who tonight demanded a fair share of the FIFA Club World Cup prize money. FIFA's new tournament piles on to players' ever-increasing workload without regard to their physical well-being. In order to seize this additional calendar territory, FIFA had to commit historic amount of prize money to secure club and player participation. As a result, MLS will receive an unprecedented financial windfall,' the MLS Players Association said in a statement in support of the Sounders' protest. 3 Seattle Sounders players jog onto the field for warmups before their June 1 match. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect 'Despite the windfall, the league has refused to allocate a fair percentage of those funds to the players themselves. For months, the players have privately and respectfully invited the league to to discuss bonus terms, yet MLS has failed to bring forward a reasonable proposal. Instead of recognizing the players who have brought MLS to the global stage, the league — which routinely asks the PA to deviate from the CBA — is clinging to an out-of-date CBA provisions and ignoring longstanding international standards on what players typically receive from FIFA prize money in global competitions. 'It is the players who make the game possible. It is the players who are lifting MLS up on the global stage. They expect to be treated fairly and with respect.' MLS did not have a comment when reached by The Post. FIFA did not immediately respond to a request for comment by The Post. The Sounders begin the group stage of the tournament on June 15 when they face the Brazilian club Botafogo at Lumen Field in Seattle.

Advertisement Skinny: Overall, his first season as a Knick was strong. Towns was an All-Star and an All-NBA third-team selection, adding a new offensive dimension to the team. The postseason showcased his defensive flaws, particularly against the ball-moving, up-tempo Pacers. 6 Karl-Anthony Towns dribbles during the Knicks' Game 6 loss to the Pacers on May 31. Charles Wenzelberg OG Anunoby Stats: 18.0 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 2.2 APG Advertisement Contract Status: 2025-26: $39.5M; 2026-27: $42.5M; 2027-28: $45.4M; 2028-29: Player option for $48.3M 6 OG Anunoby attempts a shot during the Knicks' Game 6 loss to the Pacers on May 31. Charles Wenzelberg Skinny: His defense on Pistons star Cade Cunningham was key in the first-round series victory, and he played a major role in ousting the defending champion Celtics in the second round. The two-way wing also notched a personal best in scoring during the regular season, although his shooting dipped in the playoffs. Mikal Bridges Stats: 17.6 PPG, 3.7 APG, 3.2 RPG Advertisement Contract status: 2025-26: $24.9M. 6 Mikal Bridges delivered with his defense during the Knicks' series against the Celtics. Josh Hart Stats: 13.6 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 5.9 APG Contract Status: 2025-26: $19.4M; 2026-27: $20.9M; 2027-28: Team option for $22.3M. Follow The Post's coverage of the Knicks in the 2025 NBA Playoffs Sports+ subscribers: Sign up for Inside the Knicks to get daily newsletter coverage and join Expert Take for insider texts about the series. Miles McBride Stats: 9.5 PPG, 2.9 APG, 2.5 RPG Advertisement Contract status: 2025-26: $4.3M; 2026-27: $3.9M Skinny: He found his shot in the playoffs and led the Knicks in NET rating at plus-4.3. Owed just over $8M the next two years, McBride is a bargain. Mitchell Robinson Stats: 5.1 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 1.1 BPG Advertisement Contract status: 2025-26: $12.9M Skinny: A difference-maker in the playoffs after appearing in only 17 regular-season games following ankle surgery, Robinson was a key piece in the postseason. His 17.2 playoff offensive rebounding percentage was tops among players in the league who saw rotation minutes. Cam Payne Stats: 6.9 PPG, 2.8 APG, 1.4 RPG Contract status: Unrestricted free agent Advertisement 6 Cam Payne eventually lost his spot in the rotation during the Knicks' series against the Pacers. Charles Wenzelberg Skinny: The veteran guard was a playoff disappointment other than his impactful opener against the Pistons. He eventually lost his spot in the rotation to Delon Wright in the Pacers series, and was mostly underwhelming during the regular season. Landry Shamet Stats: 5.7 PPG, 1.2 RPG, 0.5 APG Contract status: Unrestricted free agent Advertisement Skinny: Benched for most of the postseason, Shamet made an impact when given a chance against the Pacers. Was a capable bench piece during the regular season. Delon Wright Stats: 4.3 PPG, 2.1 APG, 1.4 RPG Contract status: Unrestricted free agent 6 Delon Wright capitalized on his Knicks chance after earning a rotation spot late in the postseason. Charles Wenzelberg Skinny: Picked up in the Jericho Sims trade in February, Wright was a nonfactor until the Pacers series, when he was given a chance to contribute. He answered the call, giving the Knicks quality minutes behind Brunson. Precious Achiuwa Stats: 6.6 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 1.0 APG Contract status: Unrestricted free agent 6 Precious Achiuwa defends during Game 3 of the Knicks' series against the Celtics on May 10. Charles Wenzelberg Skinny: Well-liked and versatile reserve who had a role during large parts of the 51-win regular season, but fell out of the rotation in the playoffs. Could look elsewhere for a bigger opportunity. Tyler Kolek Stats: 2.0 PPG, 1.7 APG, 0.7 RPG Contract status: 2025-26: $2.1M; 2026-27: 2.2M; 2027-28: Team option for $2.4M Skinny: Second-round pick out of Marquette mostly watched and learned as a rookie. Uncertain if the Knicks believe he's ready to serve as Brunson's backup next season. Kevin McCullar Jr. Contract status: Restricted free agent. Skinny: Didn't make his G-League debut until Jan. 31 due to knee surgery, and the second-round pick appeared in just four games with the Knicks. Tucker Stats: 3.0 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 0.3 BPG Contract status: 2025-26: Team option for $3.4M. Skinny: Teammates credited the 40-year-old Tucker, signed in March, for his leadership and knowledge he shared during the playoff run to the conference finals.
