EXCLUSIVE: MCG Talent sells Asia business in management buyout, focuses on Gulf expansion

MCG Talent has sold its Asia business to regional Managing Director Charlie Bowsher in a management buyout, marking founder Justin McGuire's full exit from the company's operations across Hong Kong and Singapore, he exclusively told Arabian Business.
The deal, completed earlier this month, transfers full ownership of the Asia-Pacific entity to Bowsher, including all active client contracts and exclusive rights to the MCG Talent brand in the region. Financial terms were not disclosed, but McGuire described the transaction as a 'high-value, well-structured deal' that rewarded nearly a decade of work.
'It was important to exit in a way that reflected the value we'd created,' McGuire told Arabian Business. 'Charlie inherits a business with real assets, long-term clients, and a strong brand.'
Bowsher will assume full operational and strategic control following a structured earn-out period. He becomes 100 per cent owner of the APAC operation, which will continue to operate under the MCG Talent name.
MCG Talent Asia, founded in 2016, is a specialist recruitment firm in the marketing, digital, and communications sectors. The business was co-led by McGuire and former partner Adam Toctan, who exited earlier this year. McGuire subsequently acquired his shares before finalising the sale to Bowsher.
'The Asia business was running well. It had reached a natural transition point, and Charlie was ready to lead,' McGuire said. 'I built this company from Singapore. This exit was planned and purposeful.'
Strategic Pivot to the Gulf
The transaction comes as McGuire sharpens his focus on the Gulf, where MCG Talent is expanding in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The group has adopted a partner-led model in the region, with Dubai as its commercial base and Saudi Arabia as a key growth market.
'We're seeing sustained hiring demand in the Gulf, especially in digital, communications, and tech,' McGuire said. 'The UAE is maturing, while Saudi is scaling rapidly.'
Under the new model, MCG Talent operates with a lean headcount supported by offshore delivery hubs in South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. The company aims to shift away from high-volume hiring toward deeper, long-term partnerships with clients.
'We've built a 10-person MENA team that generates more revenue than most 30–50 person firms,' McGuire said. 'Fewer clients, deeper relationships, better margins.'
MCG Talent's regional focus includes government-related entities and high-growth digital firms. McGuire said the firm is doubling down on communications-heavy industries and clients who prioritise strategic hiring partnerships.
The Asia deal is McGuire's third successful exit in the recruitment and consulting space. He previously sold a recruitment business through an MBO and completed an investor-led exit.
He described the latest sale as a clean, founder-led transaction that reflects his approach to building sustainable, high-growth firms in emerging markets.
'One piece of advice for any service business founder thinking about selling: make yourself redundant,' McGuire added. 'One of the reasons my MBO went through smoothly is because I wasn't in the day-to-day. Hadn't been for quite some time. The team ran it, the systems ran it, and I was out of the way.'
'I've done this before… this was a textbook exit. No drama, no private equity, just a structured, fair deal between two operators,' he said.
While McGuire will support Bowsher during the transition, he no longer holds any operational responsibilities in Asia.
'My focus is now solely on the Gulf. That's where I live, where I have the deepest experience, and where I can make the most impact.'
In addition to MCG Talent's Gulf operations, McGuire is scaling several complementary ventures.
His coaching program, 7 Figure Recruitment Scaling Systems, was created for founders of boutique recruitment firms with the aim of teaching them how to build lean, marketing-led agencies with a tech-enabled backend.
He also runs Identifii, a personal branding advisory for executives and entrepreneurs, and hosts Beyond The Business Card, a podcast focused on founder stories.
A new business unit, Remote Resource, helps companies hire offshore talent in marketing, admin, and finance roles. McGuire said he is currently seeking a managing director to lead the division.
'This isn't just a pivot, it's a reset,' he said. 'I've sold one part of the business, restructured the rest, and built something that no longer depends on me as a bottleneck.'
McGuire expects continued disruption in the recruitment sector, particularly in commoditised or saturated markets like Dubai.
'Clients no longer want CVs, they want insight, relevance, and speed,' he said. 'The agencies that survive will be the ones who can sell, market, and automate. Generalists won't make it.'
Despite the rising cost of doing business, McGuire remains bullish on growth across the Gulf.
'Our next chapter is focused on depth, not breadth – the Gulf is where we're betting big.'

EGA and ITOCHU supplies aluminium ingot and billet to Sankyo Tateyama, and in 2024 started to supply CelestiAL, which is solar power generated aluminium. EGA is able to produce CelestiAL-R to customer specifications due to the high quality of EGA's primary aluminium, the rigorous selection of scrap metal, and the flexibility of EGA's Casthouses. Bitcoin powers past $124,000, overtakes Google market cap

Bitcoin surged to a record high during early Asian trading on Thursday, breaking through $124,000 and overtaking Google parent Alphabet's market capitalisation, as a wave of institutional demand, corporate adoption, and pro-crypto policy in the United States fuelled optimism that the rally has much further to run. The world's largest cryptocurrency briefly touched $124,450 late on Wednesday before easing slightly, propelling its market capitalisation to $2.456 trillion — enough to rank as the fifth-largest asset globally. The move cemented Bitcoin's position above the $120,000 support level and underscored the momentum that has been building in recent weeks. Ethereum followed the upward trend, holding above $4,750, while Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin all recorded double-digit percentage gains over the week. Only XRP lagged, staying near $3.24 and missing out on the rally. The price surge came on the back of record inflows into US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, expanding balance-sheet allocations from major corporations, and a series of supportive policy moves from President Donald Trump's administration. For the year to date, Bitcoin has climbed more than 31 per cent and is up around 60 per cent from April's lows. Nigel Green, chief executive and founder of global financial advisory firm deVere Group, told Khaleej Times that the price action reflected 'multiple, powerful forces converging to push Bitcoin to new highs'. These include institutional capital pouring in through spot ETFs at record volumes, public companies treating Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset, the White House actively supporting the sector, and nation states now showing strong profits from their Bitcoin positions. 'These aren't isolated developments; they're part of a deep, systemic shift in the global financial system,' Green said. Data from the ETF market underscored the institutional interest. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led daily trading volumes with $3.7 billion in turnover, followed by Fidelity's FBTC with more than $500 million. Analysts say such volumes are an unmistakable sign that large-cap and pension-fund investors are taking long-term positions. Corporate Bitcoin holdings have also swelled to record valuations. Michael Saylor's Strategy, the Bitcoin-focused firm formerly known as MicroStrategy, said its reserves are now worth $77.2 billion — more than $35 billion above its previous peak last year. Sovereign adoption is delivering gains as well. El Salvador's government disclosed that its Bitcoin reserves, purchased at an average cost of $300.5 million, are now valued at $768 million, translating into unrealised profits of about $468 million. In Washington, momentum is shifting further towards integration of digital assets into mainstream financial products. Last week, President Trump signed an executive order directing the US Labour Department to explore allowing 401(k) retirement plans to hold cryptocurrencies and other alternative assets, potentially opening the door for millions of Americans to gain exposure to Bitcoin through employer-sponsored savings schemes. For Green and other market watchers, the combination of limited supply and expanding sources of demand points to further gains ahead. Bitcoin's fixed issuance rate means that as more institutions, corporations, and sovereigns acquire and hold the asset, the amount available to trade shrinks. 'The scarcity factor is now being amplified by unprecedented demand from entities that buy in size and hold for the long term,' Green said. 'This is strategic positioning in an asset that is becoming embedded in both private and public sector portfolios.' The deVere chief has reaffirmed his year-end price target of $150,000, noting that while short- term volatility is inevitable, the structural drivers are 'overwhelmingly positive'. Pullbacks, he argued, are being met with heavy buying from investors with deep pockets and strong conviction. 'Even if we see profit-taking, every dip is attracting substantial inflows,' Green said. 'Institutions are committing long-term capital, corporate treasuries are diversifying into Bitcoin, and national adoption is delivering measurable returns. Washington is shifting from resistance to integration. This is why we are maintaining our $150,000 target.' Analysts say the macroeconomic backdrop is also working in Bitcoin's favour. With expectations rising that the US Federal Reserve will ease monetary policy in the coming quarters, assets perceived as stores of value stand to benefit from an environment of lower interest rates and increased liquidity. This combination of policy, adoption, and capital flows is reinforcing bullish sentiment across the crypto ecosystem. Market strategists caution that Bitcoin's rapid ascent makes it vulnerable to sharp corrections, particularly if risk appetite falters in global markets. However, they also note that the scale and nature of current buying — led by institutions, not retail speculation — suggest that any downturns could be shorter and less severe than in past cycles. With the $125,000 mark now in sight, traders are debating whether the next leg higher will come in a matter of days or stretch into the weeks ahead. For now, the momentum appears firmly on the side of the bulls. 'The trajectory remains higher,' Green said. 'The fundamentals are strong, the policy environment is supportive, and the buyers are there. For the time being, Bitcoin looks set to continue climbing.'

An executive order last week paved the way to allow crypto assets in 401(k) retirement accounts, highlighting an increasingly favourable regulatory environment in the US. Crypto has seen regulatory wins in the US Crypto has scored multiple regulatory wins in the US in 2025, including the passage of stablecoin regulations and the US securities regulator's decision to overhaul rules to accommodate the asset class. Bitcoin's surge has also sparked a broader rally in the asset class over the past few months, shrugging off the tremors of Trump's wide-ranging tariff policies. According to data from CoinMarketCap, the crypto sector's overall market capitalisation has ballooned to over $4.18tn, up from about $2.5tn in November 2024, when Trump won the US presidential election. The latest push for crypto adoption in the US came via an executive order on Thursday last week, which would ease access to the asset class in 401(k) retirement accounts. The order could also be a boost for asset managers such as BlackRock and Fidelity, which operate crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs). However, crypto's push into retirement savings carries risks, as the asset class tends to experience much more volatility than stocks and bonds, which asset managers have typically relied on for such accounts.
