2026 5-star Edge will announce commitment 'this week or next week'
Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class is still in a solid position to land five-star edge Anthony "Tank" Jones, who will choose between the Aggies, Alabama, and Oregon sooner rather than later. On Monday, Jones, who is a slightly projected to land with Texas A&M, provided an update regarding his recruitment, stating,
"I'm making a decision either this week or next week."
Jones has taken official visits to all three programs, and while he is an Alabama native, which plays in favor with the Tide, his strong relationship with head coach Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer could pay off in the coming days. During his recent interview with On3/Rivals, Jones praised Texas A&M's coaching staff, specifically defensive coordinator Jay Bateman.
"The position coaches are a big reason why Texas A&M is so high on my list and the way Coach Bateman uses the big end position.'
After missing out on five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown, who committed to LSU, combined with four-star edge KJ Ford, who committed to Florida, landing Jones would put the Aggies over the top and solidify the program's future depth at edge with four-stars Samu Moala and Jordan Carter already committed.
During his 2024 junior season wth St. Paul's Episcopal, Jones recorded 84 tackles, 16 sacks, and 18 tackles for loss. According to Rivals, Jones is the 23rd-ranked prospect in the cycle, the 2nd-ranked prospect in Alabama, and the 2nd-ranked Edge prospect.

Three reasons why Notre Dame will make a return trip to the College Football Playoff
The Notre Dame football season is rapidly approaching, as fall camp is set to begin later this week. Following the massively successful 2024 season, the encore 2025 campaign has thrust new expectations upon the Irish. With the College Football Playoff expanding last year, it gives Notre Dame a much better chance to compete for a championship, which is exactly what we saw last fall. For the program to make a leap into elite status, they'll have to continue to make the 12-team (more in the future) tournament. There are plenty of reasons why that should happen and here are the top three why Notre Dame will make a return visit to the College Football Playoff. Roster depth It's hard to imagine this being the case after three short years with Marcus Freeman at the helm, but not only has he recruited well, he's developed the lower ranked prospects into big-time contributors. We saw last year the Irish losing multiple players on the offensive and defensive line, star cornerback Benjamin Morrison and they didn't miss a beat. Many of those players are returning to a squad that isn't as young as it was last year. With depth all over the roster, Notre Dame can afford to sustain some injuries and keep winning. Elite defense Sure, defensive coordinator Al Golden is gone and has been replaced by Chris Ash, but now that the later doesn't have to focus on running a whole team, he should return to being an elite defensive play caller. He helped Ohio State win a championship in 2014 as their DC, and could very well do the same for the Irish. Ash has NFL experience as well, which should bode well for Notre Dame. It's not just him either, as the Irish are loaded across the board with top-end talent. Marcus Freeman At this point we are just scratching the surface of what Freeman can really be, as we have seen a massive transition from his first year to now. Sure, the early season losses still rear its ugly head, but as we saw last fall, the Irish can overcome and still reach their goal. Freeman is quickly ascending up the top coaching lists, and in my eyes, he's the biggest reason why Notre Dame will make the CFP in 2025. The Yankees Could Trade Spencer Jones, The Best Hitter In The Minors

No one else in MLB can put up numbers comparable to the reigning American League MVP, but there's someone matching him stat-for-stat in his own organization. New York Yankees prospect Spencer Jones has a Judge-like batting line—and he could be on his way out the door. Jones began the year with the Double-A Somerset Patriots, where he hit .274/.389/.594 with 16 home runs in 49 games. That earned him a promotion to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre, where he has taken his game to absurd levels, batting .400/.457/.950 with 13 homers in 19 games. Across the two highest levels of affiliated ball, he leads all qualified minor leaguers in home runs (29), slugging percentage (.706), and OPS (1.116). His overall batting line this season is .314/.411/.706, which is reminiscent of Judge's .342/.449/.711 slash line—the components of which all lead MLB. Jones has drawn comparisons to Judge since he was drafted by the Yankees out of Vanderbilt in 2022. Both are California natives who were selected in the first round out of college. They're both outfielders who stand 6-foot-7 with immense power and more speed than expected—Jones has 16 stolen bases this year and 96 in four minor-league seasons—even though Jones bats left-handed and Judge hits from the right side. With Judge on the injured list since July 25 with a bad elbow, it seems like Jones would be a perfect roster replacement since it doesn't appear he has anything left to prove in the minors. Unfortunately, the two have something else in common—Jones hasn't played since his three-homer game on July 24 due to back spasms. A 24-year-old slugging center fielder in Triple-A seems like the kind of prospect the Yankees should make untradeable, but USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that they could move him before this week's trade deadline. The team needs reinforcements, particularly for their pitching staff. Despite his Judge-like numbers, Jones is one of the most polarizing prospects in baseball. Many evaluators believe he'll never make enough contact to stick in the big leagues. In 2024, he set a Yankees organizational record with 200 strikeouts in 124 games and 544 plate appearances while playing in Double-A, which is an astounding 36.8% strikeout rate. To put that in context, only three qualified major leaguers have a strikeout rate higher than 30% this season, and none above Riley Greene's 32.7%. Again, that was in Double-A, and the pitching only gets tougher to hit at higher levels. He has made slight improvements this season, but perhaps not enough. He has 94 strikeouts in 302 plate appearances across Double-A and Triple-A, which is a 31.1% strikeout rate. Very few players fan that much in the minors and have success in MLB, as explained by J.J. Cooper of Baseball America. Another important statistic that portends a player's success is zone-contact rate, or how often the player makes contact when swinging at pitches in the strike zone. Most hitters have to reach a threshold of around 80% zone-contact in MLB to succeed, with a few rare exceptions. Jones' zone-contact rate in Triple-A is only 69.4%. He's obliterating the ball when he connects, but he's not putting bat to ball nearly often enough, and most players have even more difficulty making contact when they jump from Triple-A to MLB. Some analysts think Spencer Jones can overcome his contact woes while others believe they will doom him. With his exceptional numbers in the minors, his trade value has never been higher. We'll see how much the Yankees believe in him based on whether or not he's still with the organization in a few days.

A new face to the program this fall, Abduall Sanders Jr. enters his first collegiate season with the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2025. Part of Alabama's 2025 recruiting class, Sanders is yet another name on the Crimson Tide's roster out of national powerhouse Mater Dei High School in California, the same program that has produced other defensive standouts such as Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown. As for Sanders in particular however, the talented freshman's role in 2025 is likely an unknown, as the linebacker has multiple names sitting ahead of him on the depth chart. Because of this, playing time could be hard to come by for Sanders this fall, but the freshman could still be a special teams option, in addition to a reserve inside linebacker. Overall, expect Sanders to see some action this season, but for the true freshman to likely be a depth option.
